Albatex DBC Protective Colloid: Technical Data Sheet
USES
Dyeing gray-state cotton, cotton and polyester/cotton blends by the exhaust and continuous
methods with reactive, direct and vat dyes.
Characteristics Benefits
• Binds heavy metal ions in water. • No shade change with dyes, sensitive to iron
and/or copper.

PROPERTIES
pH of 5% solution: About 5
-1
Viscosity 5–10 m Pas at a shear of 3s (equivalent to Brookfield
spindle 2, 20 rpm).
General stability Highly stable in hard water and to alkalis, acids and
electrolytes at the concentrations usually encountered in
dyeing.
Ecology/toxicology The usual hygiene and safety rules for handling chemicals
should be observed in storage and handling. The product
must not be swallowed.

APPLICATIONS
Dissolving / diluting
ALBATEX DBC can be diluted in all proportions by pouring on cold or warm water.
Required amount
This depends on water hardness, purity of the cotton and liquor ratio. The following
recommendation can be used as a guideline:
®
1.0–3.0 g/l ALBATEX DBC
®
The maximum amount of ALBATEX DBC is recommended for use in hard water, for gray-state or
impure cotton, and in short-liquor treatments
NOTES
®
ALBATEX DBC must also be used for dyeing in soft water. In reactive dyeing with soda as fixing
alkali, the formation of calcium carbonate can result in stains, markings and unlevelness.
®
ALBATEX DBC prevents all this.
®
ALBATEX DBC is particularly recommended for dyeing gray-state cotton and for the wash-dye
procedure.
Dispersing power:
®
1 g/l ALBATEX DBC disperses up to about
0.125 g/l CaCO3. This is equivalent to a water hardness of about
9° Clark. Determination is done by a modified Hampshire test method.
Calcium inactivation:
®
1 g/l ALBATEX DBC inactivates up to about
0.025 g/l CaO. This is equivalent to a water hardness of about
3° Clark. Determination is done by complexometric titration.
