Stretford Weekly
Friday 15th October September 2010 Issue 5

The Proposed Academy Open Evening at Trafford College took

place on Tuesday night. This was a planned event agreed with
Lostock College and Stretford High School so the proposed uniform
and other plans for the school, if it goes ahead, could be shared. I
am aware that many of you attended this event to find out about
the proposed plans for your school.

I am also aware that many of you have taken time to assist with designing the new
uniform, if you were one of those people thank-you for doing this. I am very
disappointed to report that some adults during the meeting did not conduct
themselves as they should have done and set a bad example to you; as to how you
should behave and communicate if you are unhappy.

We are still waiting to find out if the School Adjudicator thinks our school and
Lostock College should close, in order for the proposed Academy to open. In the
meantime you should be continuing to make sure you work hard to make progress.
We plan for every eventuality at Stretford High School, so we are continuing to
help the principal designate Mr Parry to plan the start of the proposed Academy if
it goes ahead.

Chickens…
Our first Eggs have arrived!!! We are not sure which
chicken laid our inaugural deposit. However, we can be
sure that the egg that looked the best, “tasted very
nice” according to Mr Bradshaw. We look forward to
further activity!!!

I was overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries for this competition,
where students could submit a piece of art, poetry or a short story based around
the title “My School, My Community, My Culture”. 25 Vivos were on offer for every
submission. Such was the quality of entries I also awarded 50 Vivos for commended
submissions, 500 Vivos were on offer for category winners and 1000 Vivos to the
overall winner – Zakia Ahmed – for this fantastic piece of art work. Well done and
thank-you to all who entered. The Year 9 competition is after half term.
Connecting Classrooms

I was privileged on Wednesday to watch international learning taking place in the

MFL department. Year 7 students took part in a language lesson together with
students who were in a school over 1000 miles away in Spain, via internet link.
Well done to all students involved. I hope you continue to make friends via this
brilliant link and look forward to hearing more about this exciting initiative.

Friday Football
Around 30 students and up to 6 staff have been attending Friday Football
Friendlies, having a good laugh and getting fit. After the previous 15 a-side
matches, last week for the first time four teams were picked to play two matches
simultaneously. Man of the Match was awarded to Jack Ferguson.

Thanks to Mrs Jackson who thoughtfully provided half time oranges.

All key stage 3 students and any staff are welcome to come along on Friday - any
level ability welcomed!

More Football
We beat Wellington and The Albion in matches this week. We lost both games
there to Abraham Guest and Sale Grammar but overall ended up ranked 10th out of
20. Top effort to our Year 8 football teams. Paul Maciulskas was our player of the
tournament but all players did very well.
Well done to the following students who led the recent
primary school sports festival at Stretford leisure centre.
I was delighted to see you showing your passion for sport passed
on to children through your developing leadership skills.

International Thought…

The miners are all out! Stunning scenes across Chile and the world as a miracle
happens and all 33 miners are safely returned to the surface.
What do you think will happen next? What challenges will they face? What
opportunities might happen for them?
