1.1 Scope
THE PROVISION OF PIPELINE
INSTALLATION SERVICES
This document summarises the measures taken by company to prevent pollution of the
environment during the course of their onshore construction operations on a site and the
emergency preparedness and reporting procedures in place should it occur.
1.2 Objective
The primary objective of this Pollution Control Procedure is to ensure that company
operational activities are not detrimental to the surrounding environment.
Local regulations may require that special equipment with anti-pollution equipment is on standby
whilst this activity takes place.
The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that maximum precautions are taken during
transfer of fuels in order to prevent spillage.
3.3 Surplus Oils
Contaminated, dirty or un-reclaimable oils shall be stored in sludge tanks or dedicated barrels.
Dirty lube-oils shall be stored in dedicated tanks or barrels. Oils from both sets of tanks / barrels
shall be prepared for disposal by the method determined by the Construction Manager and
depending on the local site requirements and facilities. All tanks / barrels containing oil for
disposal shall be adequately identified with its contents.
3.4 Sanitary System
Toilet and urinal drains system will consist of septic tank. The site latrine system shall be
maintained in a clean and disinfected manner (twice daily), and regularly inspected.
3.5 Exhaust System
Exhaust gas systems shall be provided for all generators, motor, steam boilers and
incinerators. The exhaust pipes shall be insulated according to the authorities' requirements and
the insulation covered with sufficient steel plating for protection, each to be provided with the
necessary number of expansion bellows, drain pots, silencers and spark arrestors.
Air Emissions
The levels of emissions during road, pipe laying and facility construction operations are
very low, with the major sources being restricted to diesel fuel use during operations. Whilst
there is an overall contribution in terms of emission gases, the levels are insignificant in
comparison with other operations in tunisia.
3.6 Dust/Sand
Construction activities in normal operations will have impacts during the construction
period and the commissioning phase.
Transportation and earthworks (, pipe laying, trenching for cables, clearance of right of
way, etc.) are likely to generate dusty materials. As there are no inhabited areas all along the
pipeline and road right of way, impacts will be mainly limited to workers. Particles remaining
in the air may give rise to respiratory problems.
To reduce impacts from dust/sand during the construction phase, the main following
mitigation measures will be taken:

3.8. Noise
Related to noise protection, at the time of purchasing or renting equipment, all
supervisory staff shall pay utmost attention and retain the responsibility of self-protection from
high noise level, activities mainly due to the operation of the following equipment:
Earth moving machines.
Welding units.
Side booms and cranes.
Portable power tools, grinders, drills, chipping machines.
Pipe bending machines.
Workshop equipment, bevelling machines, hammers.
Sandblasting equipment.
Transportation equipment, trucks, forklifts, buses.

with national levels.
