Q.1. Define the term stress and strain and also write the types of stress.
Q.2. Draw the stress strain diagram of mild steel and explain it.
Q.3. An aluminum bar 3 m. long and 2500 mm 2 in cross-section is rigidly fixed at A and D as
shown in fig.

Determine the loads shared and stress in each portion. Take E for aluminium as 80 Gpa.
Q.4. A solid copper rod 300 mm long and 40 mm diameter passes axially inside a steel tube of
50 mm internal diameter and 60 mm external diameter. The composite bar is tightened by using
rigid washer of negligible thickness. Determine the stress in copper rod and steel tube, when the
nut is tightened so as to produce a tensile load 100 kN in the copper rod.
