On waking up, have 1-2 glasses of lukewarm water with 2-3 drops of lemon drops (with 1
tablespoon of overnight soaked fenugreek seeds)
Early Morning: 1 cup tea/ green tea(no sugar/jaggery/honey) (optional - stevia sugar-
free)
7:00 – 7:30 am +2-3 almonds/1-2 walnuts
Breakfast:
8:30am-9:00am 3-4 rawa idlis with sambhar (with plenty vegetables) (limit the use of
chutney)
Or 1 ½ small bowl poha/ vegetable upma/ sevai upma/ oats porridge
Or 1 phulka with soft cooked sabji
+ 1 cup cow’s milk or skim milk(no sugar/jaggery/honey)
+1 B.egg/omlette(any preparation)
DIETARY INSTRUCTIONS:
FOODS TO BE ALLOWED:
All cereals are allowed (except sabudana, maida, cornflour, white bread). Whole grain
cereals are always preferred. Make phulkas with whole wheat flour (aata) or multi grain
flour.
All pulses and legumes are permitted. Sprouting enhances the bioavailability of B vitamins.
Include eggs in diet for good quality protein.
Include soyachunks, nutrella, tofu in your diet for good quality protein..
All vegetables and green leafy vegetables are allowed (Except given below).
Fruits except those mentioned in the list below. Always prefer eating whole fruits rather
than fruit juices. Fruits like Sweet lime, Orange, Papaya, Pear, Plums, Peach, Guava
without seeds, Ber, Apple, Jambhul.
Amount of oil that should be used is less than ½ liter per person per month. Use
vegetable oils like groundnut oil, sesame oil, olive oil. Restrict saturated fats such as ghee,
butter, cheese.
FOODS TO BE RESTRICTED:
Sabudana, corn flour, white bread and maida. .
Sugar, jam, jelly, jaggery, honey, sweets, extra use of salt etc.
Sauces, squashes, ice creams, chocolates, carbonated beverages, ready to eat foods etc.
Mango, banana, chickoo, custard apple (sitaphal), jackfruit and grapes.
Potato, Sweet Potato, Yam, Arrow root, unripe banana etc.
High fat containing foods like processed foods, chips, papad, pickles, chutney etc.
Fried foods like vada, farsan etc.
Sabji made in khuskhus, dry coconuts or cashew nut gravies.
All bakery products like cakes, doughnuts, pastries, cream biscuits etc.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Avoid large intervals between meals.
Take small and frequent meals, i.e. the gap between two meals should not be more than 3
hours.
Have plenty of cooked green leafy vegetables, raw salads (without dressings).
Include at least 1-2 fresh fruits every day and plenty of vegetables in your diet.
Fluid intake should be 2 ½-3 liters per day.
Avoid large & heavy meals for dinner specifically. Have foods easy to digest at dinner.
Involve exercise in your daily regime after consultation with your doctor /
physiotherapist.
Ideally, the last meal of the day should be taken at least 2 hours before retiring to bed.
