only for the slaves, but for the slave owners as well. The first passage depicts the rebellion as graphic,
horrible, and evil, while the second passage highlights the significance of the rebellion for the slaves and
its meaning with a somewhat philosophical tone. The main difference in these two views is simply
because the first passage was written by a white official, while the second passage was written by a
descendant of the Cato family.
