TEENAGE PREGNANCY

The highest rate of “teenage pregnancy” in Palawan has been recorded in Puerto Princesa
City. In Puerto Princesa, there about 1,051 case of teenage pregnancy cited (POPCOM) and it
continues to grow every year. Youth become pregnant at early age are at the higher risk to get
mental health problems, such as depression, intense stress and pressure to become parent,
Teenage pregnancy certainly disrupted young women education. In fact the majority of teen
mother drop out of high school. Because of lack of knowledge and information about sexual and
reproduction rights, sexual violence, thus most of women tend to get pregnant at early age.

We cannot hamper teens to intercourse, but we can educate them about sex. This
document proposes to approve sex education in the Philippines especially for those provinces,
cities with the high rate of early pregnancy and HIV, to mentioned Puerto Princesa City. Sex
education is the high quality topics related to sex and sexuality. Being sex educated can improve
academic success, prevent dating violence and bullying; reduce unplanned pregnancy, HIV and
other STI (Sexual Transmitted Infection) and reduce health disparities among LGBT youth.

Possible Question Regarding the proposal;


• Does Sex education provoking youth to have sex?
Answer: No, In fact sex education empower youth to make a healthy decision. It’s not provoking
its preventing.
• Who would teach sex education?
Answer: Sex education may take place in school, online, community but parents play a critical
and central role providing sex education.

We are proposing to legalized sex education. Because of lack of information, teen get pregnant at
early age. By imposing sex education it can reduce unplanned pregnancy, spread of HIV and
other STD (Sexual transmitted Diseases). Being sex educated of youth may help them to become
mentally healthy, knowledgeable and aware regarding sexual topics, and most important to have
a better future.
