The Second Edition of the Book: “Community Medicine: Prep
Manual for Undergraduates” by Dr. Rajvir Bhalwar, published
by Elsevier Publication in April 2018, is an updated version
of its first edition published in 2015.
The contents of the chapters are presented in long and short
question and answer form with neatly drawn diagrams. At the end
of each chapter, there are multiple‑choice questions and viva‑based
questions along with answers and the complementary online
student resources, in addition, provide valuable tips for model
answers which no other book of this category has been providing.
The chapter on biostatistics explains the various biostatistical
terminologies and concepts in a very simple language. At the end
of this chapter, there are 75 numericals and graph‑based problems
along with answer for the student to practice.
This book will benefit not only the undergraduate but also the
postgraduate students of community medicine.
The author has summarized the entire syllabus of community
medicine efficiently and effectively into 29 chapters. Moreover,
a new Chapter 30, which gives a quick revision of definitions,
important data, and “one‑liners,” is a definite value addition
in this second edition.
The language used is lucid, easy to be understood by the
students. Concepts are explained to the point. At the same
time, care has been taken that the reader gets a good grasp of
the subject. The book also prepares the students for practical
examination with the help of epidemiological exercises and
medico‑social case taking procedure and entomology.
The book has a new approach toward teaching and learning
community medicine.
All in all, it is a student‑friendly book trying and succeeding
in its aim to make community medicine an interesting
subject.
I strongly feel that this updated book is a “MUST HAVE” for
all undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
