7. Describe the action that is taking part in the cartoon.
 In the left picture, the Filipino teacher is having a really hard time carrying the
wooden stick that weighs the school more than the salary while in the right picture;
the American teacher appears to be really calm lifting the wooden stick that weighs
the salary more than the school.

8. Explain how the words in the cartoon clarify the symbols.

 The words give clarity and emphasis to what the cartoon is conveying. Without the
word Filipino and American teacher, I will not be able to identify that the two human-
being in the cartoon is showing the difference of a Filipino and an American teacher.
Also, without the word school and salary, I will not be able to find out that those
things are trying to portray inequality.

9. Explain the message of the cartoon.

 The cartoon is trying to tell us what it’s like to be a teacher in the Philippines and a
teacher in abroad. Teachers in the Philippines do their jobs very well even if the
number of students in a single classroom is already exceeding the limit. They didn’t
stop teaching despite of lack of resources and too much workload. Yet, they weren’t
to get the appropriate salary they deserve. This is the reason why many Filipinos
tend to go abroad because in other countries, they will also do the same job which is
to teach, but this time, they’re getting ample benefits and right amount of salary.

10. What special interests groups would agree/disagree with the cartoon's message? Why?
 They will agree that teachers in the Philippines deserves to receive a higher amount
of salary because we all know that teachers are the ones that creates all other
profession and that is an enough reason why they need to be recognized and
valued.
ACTIVITY 2
1. Look for a recent political cartoon from any reputable newspaper, either online or
newsprint.
2. Analyze it based on Level three (Look up.)

Level 3
7. Describe the action that is taking part in the cartoon.
 The healthcare provider in the cartoon is conducting swab testing to the VIP’s
instead of the frontliners who are actually infected by COVID-19.

8. Explain how the words in the cartoon clarify the symbols.

 It helps to elaborate and highlight what the cartoon is trying to portray. With the
words VIP lane and frontliners infected by COVID-19, I am able to know that the
cartoon is trying to tell us that in the Philippines, the VIP’s comes first when it comes
to mass testing. As you can see in the cartoon, there’s a phrase saying
“FREEVILIGED KAMI” and “MASS IMPORTANTE KAMI SAINYO”, which tells us
why they are being prioritized.

9. Explain the message of the cartoon.

 The message of the cartoon simply tells us the reality of how we are governed by
greedy people in the Philippines. There’s this post circulating in social media. It was
posted by a doctor and he is saying that PUI’s (person under investigation) are dying
without having the opportunity to be tested because of the limited number of testing
kits. Even our frontline healthcare workers do not get tested despite their sustained
exposure to the disease but, you can clearly see that the government officials and
their families were being tested left and right because they have all the access and
power. This simply means that they are taking away the testing kits from the people
who really need it.

10. What special interests groups would agree/disagree with the cartoon's message? Why?
 They will disagree that the frontliners are not having mass testing even though they
are the ones that facing the virus everyday and these VIP’s or what we call
“Government” is abusing all the frontliners not only frontliners but also all filipinos that
is not capable to pay mass testing.
