M1 Lesson 5 Assignment Part 1:: Lab 1: Molar Heat of Neutralization
M1 Lesson 5 Assignment Part 1:: Lab 1: Molar Heat of Neutralization
Name:___________________
Data
Analysis
1. Calculate the molar heat of reaction for the NaOH(aq) using the data
obtained from the experiment. Show all your work. (6 marks)
2. Calculate a percent difference for the value you obtained from the
experiment to the widely accepted value for the molar heat of neutralization
of sodium hydroxide, -57 kJ/mol. (3 marks)
Now you will analyze the results of an experiment in order to determine the respective
H values. The data for this lab has already been collected and you are required to
complete only the analysis section below.
Hints:
1. Be careful about your +/- signs. Ask yourself at each lab description whether
energy is being released ( - /exothermic) or absorbed (+/endothermic).
2. Remember that when sketching your potential energy graphs, you must apply
the molar heat value, just as you must apply the molar heat term to your
chemical equations.
Lab 2:
Collected Data
Variable Quantity
Volume of Calorimeter Water 100.0 mL
Density of water 1.00 g/mL
Mass of KOH(s) 2.00 g
Initial temperature of the water 21.6oC
Final temperature of the water 24.0oC
Analysis:
b) The H per gram of system substance used. Show your work. (5 marks)
c) The H per mole of system substance used. Show your work. (2 marks)
- Includes a title
- Has labelled axis
Be sure to ask any questions you may have regarding the analysis before you send it in.
You are now ready to submit this assignment to your instructor for grading. Be sure to ask any
questions regarding the analysis BEFORE you send it in.
Thank you – this will greatly help your instructor as s/he marks all of the assignments.
