J: I’m good Valentina, thanks. So tell me about you, Where do you live?
V: I'm living in Medellín right now. I recently moved, previously I lived in Manizales, and you?
J: I’m living in Rionegro, It´s to 45 minutes from here and are You married?
V: No, i’m focused in my work now. And you?
J: No, I’m not married fortunately hahaha
V: hahaha! You don’t change!
J: So, What do you currently do?
V: Well, i’m working with Ecopetrol and recently I started to develop a research project with Bayer. And you? What
is your area now?
J: It’s great what you do, I’m working for Colanta, I’m in charge of the pasteurization and quality area, actually I’m
Biochemical Engineer.
V: It’s so interesting, so tell me, what does a biochemical engineer do?
J: Look, Biochemical Engineering is in charge of building, analyzing and transforming biological materials, from
physical and chemical knowledge for the benefit and improvement of humanity.
V: Humm. Do you know something? What a coincidence! I’m Biochemical Engineer too. How long have you
graduated?
J: No! Are You kidding me? It’s a great coincidence! 2 years ago, I graduated from the University of Antioquia and
you?
V: This is so curious and strange. Too many coincidences are happening here. I also graduated from University of
Antioquia but it happened three years ago.
J: It’s incredible so many coincidences and What functions do you perform in your workplace?
V: Well, now, i’m directioning biofuel processes plant in Ecopetrol and with Bayer we are research an enzyme
which facilitates the synthesis and absorption of some medicines to have a faster effect. Are you only working with
Colanta or you have other workplaces and functions like me?
J: No, I’m just working for Colanta and have differents functions.
V: Really? And what are those functions?
J: I’m in charge of milk processing, helping to move the milk from producers to consumers in a safe, comfortable
and ecological way. Too I also develop enzymes that neutralize lactose to make lactose-free milk that can be
drunk by our lactose-intolerant customers. It’s a hard job, however I love what I do.
V: That’s too interesting. Could I go some day to your workplace and learn something more about your work?
J: Of course! I would be delighted if You would accompany me at work, also so we could get to know each other
more
V: Ok! When you can, just call me. Hey, what do you think about the new entrepreneurship initiatives that are
being implemented to make the entire industry more sustainable?
J: It seems to me a great idea, since as biochemical engineers we need to innovate and create new processes to
help sustain the industries where we work, bearing in mind that we must be friendly to the environment.
V: That’s true! these initiatives give us opportunities to unleash our full potential as engineers and help all those
problems that bad management of waste and chemical process have generated. We have the opportunity of start
to change the world!
J: That’s right. So… I have to go to work already. Nice to see you again.
V:  Ok! Have a nice day. Don’t forget my visit to your work.
J: It’ll happen, don’t worry!  It was a pleasure to see you again. Bye!
