Reflection
According to D.O. 89, s. 2020, Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) were
provided by DepEd as the primary reference in determining and implementing learning
delivery approaches that are suited to the local context and diversity of learners.

When it comes to unpacking MELC, many teachers are learning the process. The MELCs
are aligned with the content and performance standard from the Curriculum Guide
structured by DepEd. When it comes to integrating it to lessons, pre requisite knowledge
and skills should be identified so the teachers can unpack and combine essential
competencies.

MELCs can enrich the teacher’s daily lessons by connecting its content to higher concepts
across content areas. It is also applicable to real life situations.

I can assist the teachers by explaining/ guiding them in the process of unpacking MELCs.
It is important that every teacher understand the process because in the new normal of
teaching, it is a must to embrace it.

Learning is not possible through face to face modality anymore and that is why the
competencies were congested forming the MELC. Without understanding the process,
teachers and students will be overloaded with too much information.
It is essential to identify the skills to be mastered since the primary aim of education is to
equip students with critical and necessary skills to prepare them for development,
employment and life-long learning.
