where C is the curve given by

x  t , y  et , z  et , 0  t  1.
(Note: you don’t need to simplify the output of the integral at the end).

Question 2: Evaluate the surface integral   x dS
S
where S is the part of the plane

x  y  2 z  2 in the first quadrant. Sketch the projection of the surface area S in the x-y
plane.

Question 3: A small company employs 2 engineers. Engineer 1 works in 65% of the jobs bid
by the company. Engineer 2 does the 35% of the jobs for the company. It is known that the
error rate for engineer 1 is 0.03 when he does the work, whereas the probability of error for
engineer 2 is 0.05.

1) Sketch the tree diagram

(2 marks)
2) Suppose a bit arrives and an error occurs from the job. Which engineer would you
guess did the work. Explain using mathematical reasoning.

Question 4: A special sport car is equipped with either an automatic or manual transmission,
and the car is available in three colours. Relevant probabilities for different combinations of
transmission type and colours are given in the table below. Let A= “automatic transmission”
and S= “silver”.

Colours
White Silver Blue
Transmission A 0.30 0.20 0.15
type M 0.20 0.05 0.10

1) Calculate P( A) , P( A  S ) and P( A S )
