MANUFACTURE OF BRICKS FROM BLACK COTTON SOIL

WITH ADDITIVES

Abstract
Over a past few decades, there are wide ranges of alternatives available in
the field of construction with the changing in the raw material for the
particulars. As concern with the brick there are some invention like fly ash
brick, concrete blocks and brick. Here we are using black cotton soil as a raw
material for the bricks and also using some admixture to alter the properties of
the black cotton soil.
Black cotton soil is one of the major issues in India. When exposed to variation
in moisture content they undergo high swelling and shrinkage making it more
complicated for engineering point of view. But it can become hard and brittle
when dried and possesses properties required for a good Brick manufacturing
material.
Our project aims at analysing the black cotton soil collected from nearby
regions such as palakkad and analysing them and manufacturing of good
quality bricks by adding additives such as cement, lime, sand, micro silica, slag,
fly ash, rice husk ash, groundnut shell ash, bagasse ash, granite waste, marble
waste, crusher waste, cement kiln waste, carbide waste, tile waste, ceramic
waste etc depending on their availability
