Background of the Study

Parents’ involvement can take many forms, such as parents’ becoming informed about

their child’s school program; communicating regularly with teachers; understanding their

child’s strengths, needs, and progress; helping with homework; attending parent-teacher

conferences and other school functions; and volunteering in the classroom.

Parent’s involvement has always been an essential component of every teacher-

student-school academic endeavor. Parents, who have been considered as one of the

stakeholders of the school community, play tremendous roles in the child’s educational and

environmental transformation; thus, the intensity or extent of participation that parents have

in their child’s education and school, more often, have to be realized.

Many parents, whose children are currently enrolled in a particular school, are

concerned and actively involved in their child’s development in school. They attend to their

child’s needs like assisting them in their homework, getting involved in making their

requirements and even communicating to the teachers about their child’s performance in

school. Sadly, there are also some parents who do not show some concerns about their child’s

learning in school. They don’t even attend parent-teacher conference in school, not even

once. As a result, they do not have the idea about their child’s status in the classroom which

is very important factor that can contribute to their child’s development.

Parent-teacher partnership makes tremendous impact on children's education.

According to Llamas and Tuazon (2016:59) parents become comfortable when the education

system requires their involvement in school activities. The strong collaboration of parents

with school authorities can lead to increased improvement in both physical and academic
performance of the school. Hence, school administrators have to encourage parents to get

involved and make contribution towards helping the school achieve its missions and goals

(Sapungan & Sapungan, 2014:45)
