Graphical exercise Graphs1a.

doc
(60 min)

Draw a pressure versus depth graph for the following conditions.

(Also calculate the data)

Offshore semisubmersible.
Waterdepth 500 ft
DFE 100 ft above MSL
20" Casing at 2000 ft BDF

Allow 50 psi safety on the MAASP.

Mud weight in use 0.5 psi/ft seawater gradient = 0.44 psi/ft.
From offset data it was established that the formation strength is 0.55 psi/ft till 600 ft below MSL.
From 600 ft below MSL onwards the formation strength increases to 0.75 psi/ft.

QUESTIONS:
a)
What is the maximum height of a gas influx (gradient = 0.1 psi/ft) we can allow for in case we drill into a
sand at 4500 ft BDF that has a pressure regime of 0.54 psi/ft below MSL.
b)
Show your initial closed in pressures on drillpipe and annulus in the graph
Calculate Pan and Pdp.

Note:
for a) and b) only look at initial closed in conditions.

c)
do not use the following information to answer the questions a and b.!!!!!!
Assume this well is drilled on a floating rig with a subsea stack and above kick is taken. The chokeline
pressure drop is 300 psi at 20 spm which is the minimum practical killspeed to be used.
The kill-line is non operational and cannot be used to reduce this pressure drop.
During drilling out the 20" casing shoe a L.O.T. had been executed and we found a very strong shoe. The
EMMG was 0.7 psi/ft reference DF.
c1 Draw the annulus pressure versus depth profile as you expect it to be in the annulus at start of the
kill assuming the killspeed of 20 SPM was reached immediately.
c2 Describe how you start up this wellkill.

For the graph

use scale vertical 1 cm = 200 ft
horizontal 1 cm = 200 psi PLEASE DRAW ACCURATE
