SUMMARY OF THE STORY OF

THE LAST SONG


Story by Nicholas Sparks

The main character of the story is Veronica “Ronnie” Miller who was 17 years old girl. She
is a stubborn and rebellious daughter. She and her brother Jonah live in New York with their
mother. After the divorced of their parents, their father, Steve Miller, lived in Wrightsville
Beach, North California. Steve was a teacher in Juilliard School. The decision to leave his family
without explanation made Ronnie very angry, until she refuse the scholarship in Juilliard
School and stop learning piano.

During the summer Ronnie’s mother Kim, took Ronnie and Jonah to spent the summer
holiday with their father. And after hearing that idea it made Ronnie unhappy and very angry.
But Jonah was very happy after hearing that idea because he would live and spent the summer
holiday with his father. They arrived in Wrightsville Beach, North California where their father
lived. Steve said hello to Ronnie but she didn’t reply back to Steve. But Steve still very patient.

Ronnie was very unhappy, especially when she looked at the piano in the living room of the
bungalow. She spent much time entertaining herself away from the house in the Carnival. She
had a friend named Blaze, who has family problem like Ronnie. One day her father showed a
nest of turtle to Ronnie and Jonah along the beach. The racoon it the the egg of the turtle so
Ronnie become interested to protect the turtle’s nest. She call the aquarium crew to made a
protective cage.

Will Blacklee the aquarium crew was came to protect the turtle’s nest with Ronnie. Ronnie
and Will spent their night and they slept near the nest. Ronnie felt enjoy beside Will. And she
finally fall in love. They spent the summer time fishing, watching beach volleyball and attend to
Will’s sister wedding. On the other side of the story, Steve showed an artwork, the windows of
the church and he thought Jonah how to make made it.
On the other night of August, the turtle’s egg finally hatch. Ronnie, Will, Jonah, and Steve
was very happy seeing the turtle crawling from sand to the water. A while ago, Steve back to
the bungalow house, then suddenly he cough with blood and needed to go to the hospital.
Ronnie accompanied her father to the hospital. Then Steve told everything about his cancer,
and Ronnie began to cry. Day by day Ronnie’s father felt better. Ronnie finished the song that
she and her father did before and played it. After her father died she back to New York and
applied to Juilliard school to study there.

COMPARISON OF THE BOOK AND THE MOVIE

Nothing changed in the movie from the original story in the book. It has been a good
movie outcome. The work is great and the story is in fact not far away from the original, the
book and in the movie.
