LET’S BEGIN,

A knowledge of the physiology of aging is necessary in understanding the medical problems of


the elderly, according to D. P. Zoller of Pub Med.gov. Elderly persons experience normal physiological
changes associated with aging in all of their organ systems. And becoming familiar with this age-related
physiologic changes is the first step to understand, help and better manage any clinical interventions for
the older persons.

READ Kozier and ERB’s Fundamentals of Nursing, 8 th Ed., Chapter 23. Also, read on ‘MOSBY’S
Canadian Textbook for the Support Worker’ 2nd Ed., Chapter 17- Sheila Sorrentino, and Medical Surgical
Nursing by Brunner and Suddarth’s Chapter11, ‘Health Care of the Older Adults’. View and read also the
link and Websites reflected in your Course Guide for Week 4 topic.
