PRESIDENT'S NOTE

It is with great pleasure that I convey my message to the 1st

edition of newsletter "LEO SPIRIT". I am happy as we launch

a newsletter to the club for the very first time.

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to show my

gratitude towards all my fellow Leos for your enormous

support towards the success of this. Also I hope that

everyone will work as a team to the smooth continuation of

the newsletter.

I believe that "LEO SPIRIT" will be a significant

milestone in Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe's journey

and I thank the editor, 1st Vice President Leo Vinuri

Settinayake for making "LEO SPIRIT" a reality.

I am very much delighted as I get the opportunity to pen

this message to "LEO SPIRIT", the first ever newsletter of

Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe. I am confident that

our Leos will get the maximum benefit from the

newsletter which we are planning to issue quarterly.

I believe that this will create a good platform to our

Leos not only to show their talents but also to get all

the updates, news and many more interesting features

in coming months.

THE HISTORY

Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe started its journey with the intention of serving the community in year

2014 with the leadership of Leo Mewan Jayasinghe. Under the presidency of Lion Salinda Rathnayake

in 2014/2015, Lions Club of Thalangama Malabe decided to be the sponsoring Lions Club. Leo Club of

Thalangama Malabe was formed under the guidance of the Leo District President back then Lion

Deshamanya Sagara Gunawardena.

At present, Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe has moved to greater heights with the outstanding

leadership of past presidents, Leo Mewan Jayasinghe, Leo Poorna Senadheera, Leo Nipuna Kularatne,

Leo Sithira Hapuarachchi and Leo Yasiru Perera.

Leos are always pledged for the

betterment of the community, state

and for their country. As the first

project of the Leostic year 2019/2020,

the Leo club of Thalangama Malabe

decided to start the year with a

religious project.

This project was organized with the

aim of getting the blessings for the

new Leoistic Year. The project was

held at Sri Nandarama Temple,

Koswatte, Battaramulla on 16th June

2019 following a Dansala at Koswatte

Junction on the same day.

Leos of Thalangama Malabe joined

hands with NDB bank in organizing the

children’s savings program to the

Minors on 28th June 2019.

The booklet “Ithuru Karana Maga“ was

launched for the parents of the kids at

Liberty Kindergarten and briefed them

about how to save money in their day

to day work and also opened 50 minor

accounts to the kids.

ධවල ජා

The project commenced with the painting of

the stupa at Sri Salawanodyarama Temple,

Malabe from 11th, 12th and 13th of July with the

involvement of the members of the Leo Club. A

Kapruk Pooja was also organized on the 16th of

July, the Esala full moon poya day at the temple

premises.

The end of the project was marked by involving

all who was present at the temple to light the

oil lamps which were layed around the temple

premises.  The project was carried out with the

involvement of a large number of members of

the Leo Club. Certain members assisted in

colour washing the stupa whereas some got

invloved on the day of the Kapruk Pooja.

LEO TV

Leo Kasun Weligamage of Leo District 306 A1, came

up with an idea of introduing a TV channel specially

for Leos of Sri Lanka. Once the idea was initiated,

he discussed with Leo Tithira Gamage of Leo

District 306 C1 to have a clear understanding on

launching the channel, Leo TV.

The decision was taken to deliver this project on

behalf of the Leo Multiple District 306 as Thirteen

Leo clubs joined hands with this worthy cause. The

idea was to air the programs on Last Sunday of

every month of the whole year for six hours and this

was decided to deliver as a YouTube telecast due

to the difficulties of giving it as a live stream.

After few committee meetings held weekly, the

team decided to have the official launching

ceremony of Leo TV on 28th July 2019 at Leo Youth

Center, Colombo 7, with the presence of many Leo

Multiple leaders and Lion leaders.

I SCREAM - CONTINUOUS PROJECT

I scream is an initiative of Leo club of

Thane North Star, District 3231-A2,

India and Leo club of Moratuwa,

District 306 A1, Srilanka on raising

awareness about various threats to

Global health through an online

campaign.

Throughout the year we are going to

take one topic related to global health

like climate change, pollution,

diabetes, etc. each month and try to

spread awareness about it through

distribution and publishing over social

media.

ANNUAL TRIP 

Leos of Thalangama Malabe went on

their Annual Trip to Matara on 3rd and

4th August 2019 to interact and to

strengthen the bond with each other.

This included a one night stay in a Villa

in Ahangama, Matara and a visit to

Galle Fort.

CLUB INSTALLATION

The 6th Annual Installation of the Leo Club

of Thalangama Malabe was held on 25th

August from 9.00 AM onwards at Lions Club

House, Battaramulla with the presence of

many Lions and Leo leaders of the District

306 C1 and the Multiple District 306.

Leo Thimira Uyanhewage was installed as

the 6th President of Leo Club of

Thalangama Malabe for the Leoistic Year

2019/2020 along with the Executive

Committee Members and Board of

Directors.

WASH FOR A CAUSE - 5

Wash for a Cause - 5, Car wash which was

organized for the 5th consecutive year, by

Leos of Thalangama Malabe, was held on

22nd of September from 9.00 AM onward

at the Open Gym Car Park of Chandrika

Kumaratunga Mawatha, Malabe.

This is the main fundraiser of the club and

the funds raised by this project will be

utilized into all the community projects.

SHRADDHA - 2

An alms giving was organized by Leo club

of Thalangama Malabe to get the

blessings for completing 5 years of service

successfully.

This was held on the 2nd of November

2019 at Leo Supipi Seneviratne's

residence, Battaramulla.

Q - Just tell us a bit of your background. Your

education, your profession and etc;?
A - I am an old boy of Ananda College Colombo and

I am a graduate in BBMgt (Special) in Marketing of

University of Kelaniya and Staffordshire University,

 
UK. Currently I am working as a Director of Perera

Tyre Services (Pvt) Ltd.

Q - When did you joined the Leo movement and

what positions you have held so far?
A - I joined the movement in 2014. I have been held

the positions of Club Treasurer, Director and Vice

President until I become the President of 2018/19.

Currently I am in the Director board of the Club.

Q - Let's talk about your achievements as a Leo.

Also, how do you feel about last year when you
turn back and have a look?
A - I am really happy about last year. My team

walked away with 23 awards at the District

conference while I am being awarded as the Most

outstanding Club President of the District and Most

Outstanding Club President 2nd Runner up in Sri

Lanka.

We, as a team did a lot to the community. We

supported cancer patients, elders, schools and so

on. We enjoyed ourselves being Leos. We never

wanted to win awards and titles. I am happy that I

have ended a tough journey with a smile and relief

with my team.

Q - What are your future plans as a Leo?

A - I look forward to work for the needy community

as usual with our members.

Q - Who are your supporters throughout this

journey?
A - I should thank my family for being with me.

Specially my father who is a Lions club member. He

always stood behind advising and guiding. Also the

members of Lions Club of Thalangama Malabe and

Leo advisors, Leo Club members, Leo District and

Leo Multiple District.

Q - Just tell us a bit of your background. Your

education, your profession and etc;?
A - I completed my secondary education at

Nalanda College Colombo. While I was schooling I

completed AAT as well. After completing my

schooling I started working at NDB bank. I am

currently following the DBF stage at IBSL.

Q - When did you joined the Leo movement and

what positions you have held so far?
A - I joined the Leo movement in 2015. Very next

year I was appointed to the board of directors and

thereafter I have been in several key positions in

club such as Assistant Treasurer, Vice President.

currently I serve as Club President for year 2019/20.

Q - Let's talk about your achievements as a Leo.

Also, how do you feel about last year when you
turn back and have a look?
A - Last year is one of the remarkable years in 

my Leo career as I have some great achievements

during that period. Last year I have been awarded

as the Most Outstanding Vice President and Most

Outstanding Zone Director of the District.

Apart from the awards, as a team we delivered

some heart touching and creative projects to the

movement. Also I was appointed to the District

Council for the 3rd consecutive year, I was really

enjoying being a council officer and to work with

fellow clubs in the District.

Q - What are your future plans as a Leo?

A - This year is a turning point in my Leo career,

because I got a huge responsibility in my club so the

first thing comes into my mind is doing this Leoistic 

year with best of my ability. Also I am planning to

continue my work with the District Council.

Q - Who are your supporters throughout this

journey?
A - I should thank my parents, Lions and Leos of

Thalangama Malabe.

Q - Just tell us a bit of your background. Your
education, your profession and etc;?
A - I studied at Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya,

Nugegoda. I am a graduate in BA (Hons) In

International Management from Buckinghamshire

New University, UK. I am currently working as a Snr.

Executive under Group Company Secretarial of

Hemas Holdings PLC.

Q - When did you joined the Leo movement and

what positions you have held so far?
A - I joined the movement in 2014 as a member of

Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe. I was appointed as

the Club secretary in year 2015/16 & 2016/17, 2nd

Vice President in 2017/18 and again as the

Secretary in 2018/19. Currently I serve as the 1st

Vice President of the Club.

Q - Let's talk about your achievements as a Leo.

Also, how do you feel about last year when you
turn back and have a look?
A - I am a Leo Gold Star award winner of 2016/17

and 2018/19. Also I was awarded as the Most

Outstanding Leo Club Secretary of the District and

the Most Outstanding Leo Club Secretary of Sri

Lanka in 2018/19. On the other hand I was able to

work closely with our District and Multiple District in

organizing events. I am happy that I was a part of

the club's administration and I introduced few

unique ways of uplifting the club's administration

and seeing the continuation of those, is the greatest

achievement.

Year 2018/19 was truly remarkable. When I look back

I can say that we had ups and downs during our Leo

journey. But our energetic team made it towards the

success. We simply did what's right, in a right way at

the right time.

Q - What are your future plans as a Leo?

A - To continue my work as usual and also to help

and support the team in upgrading the

administration standards. Also I am about to

conduct few key projects in the upcoming months.

Q - Who are your supporters throughout this

journey?
A - My parents, My employer, all Company

Runner up - 2018/2019

Q - Just tell us a bit of your background. Your

education, your profession and etc;?
A - I studied at Musaeus College Colombo 07. I was

graduated with a BSc and MBA from the London

Business School. I currently work as a Lead Finance

and also following Chartered Accountancy and

Marketing.

Q - When did you joined the Leo movement and

what positions you have held so far?
A - I joined the Leo movement in 2014 as a Charter

Director of Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe. I held

the positions of Asst. Secretary and Club Treasurer

during my Leo career. Currently I serve as the Club

Secretary for the year 2019/20.

Q - Let's talk about your achievements as a Leo.

Also, how do you feel about last year when you
turn back and have a look?
A - Key achievement is becoming Most Outstanding

Leo Club Treasurer 1st Runner up of the District. Also

I won the Leo Gold Star and Awarded on few other

projects that I worked on. And when we talk about

the last year's achievements, we have done a good

job to make our Leo club and parent Lions club

proud.

Q - What are your future plans as a Leo?

A - My only target is to give my best support to

make the Leo movement a very powerful and strong

movement which can help the development of the

country and the well-being of the society.

Q - Who are your supporters throughout this

journey?
A - Key supporters are my parents and my sister.

It is a great pleasure for me to introduce the very first edition of the official

newsletter of Leo Club of Thalangama Malabe "LEO SPIRIT" as the chief

editor.

I consider this as a platform for the Leos of Thalangama Malabe to publish

their activities which they have engaged in. I express my sincere gratitude

towards the Club President Leo Thimira Uyanhewage and the team for the

support given to me in designing and selecting the concept of the "LEO

SPIRIT".

I am glad to be surrounded by an energetic team in making "LEO SPIRIT" a

reality. Cheers to the first step of a long journey.
