Introduction: Resources:
(ACTDEK010) Students have completed their content for this learning period and now
they are to shift their focus towards preparation for their incursion. Incursion activities

Teacher provides pre-incursion activities for the students to complete, Kahoot link
introducing new information about bushfires and the environment.

Body:
Students extend their fire knowledge by exploring the ideas of:
- Fire has a life cycle and there are various environment factors that
can influence this (e.g. hot/cold weather, dry/wet environment, etc.)
- Fire can be started through inappropriate regimes, that can lead to
widespread ecosystem changes
- Fire management programs can be developed by researching and
understanding fire behaviour
Students complete activities such as:
- Bushfire truth or myth cards
- “What do we know about bushfires” ideas wall

As a class, the teacher and students will create a donations box to and
provides donations to wildlife shelters. This links to the students learning
as they will know what the wildlife needs for survival and for their specific
needs.

Conclusion:

Students participate in a class Kahoot as a fun and engaging way to revise


the content they have learnt in the last six weeks.

Teacher MUST email parents asking whether they are okay with the
incursion taking place. They need to outline what happens on the incursion
and request details about the children’s’ allergies, etc. and whether they are
comfortable around certain animals and wildlife.

LEARNER DIVERSITY

Majority of this lesson is collaborative learning and is led by the teacher,


therefore lower achieving or struggling students can be monitored and
accommodated for by the teacher throughout the lesson.

OBJECTIVES
Students prepare for their excursion in week 8 by
completing pre-excursion activities.

Students demonstrate their understanding of the content


covered in the last six weeks by participating in informal
assessments (such as Kahoot and class discussions).
ASSESSMENT
As this lesson is in preparation for the incursion and also
a revision lesson, the teacher will not formally assess the
students. However, the teacher will informally assess
them with a Kahoot quiz that tests their knowledge in a
fun and engaging way.
