Project : Upgrading Air Cooled Package System at Existing AFC Building

Determination of pump capacity

Pump Capacity
Existing Condenser Pump = 534 igpm
Transfer Pump Capacity = 2% from condsenser pump
= 2% x 534
= 10.68 igpm
Let Say = 20 igpm

Pump Head :

Pump Head, H = static head + pressure required at outlet + pressure drop due
to friction in the piping
Where
Static Head = vertical distance between the furthest point and pump
discharge level
= 54.78 m - 51.53 m + 1.2 m
= 4.45 m
= 14.6 ft
Pressure required
at outlet = 7.5 m
= 24.6 ft

Pressure drop due
to friction = calculated as follows
Water Pipe Description No. of Equal Eff. 10% Head
Flow Size Item Length Length Safety Consume
(Igpm) (in) (ft) (ft) Factor (ft)
20 2 Static pipe - 180 256.7 282.4 5.67
Tee 1 3.3
Elbow 10 5
Strainer 2 10
Gate Valve 2 1.7

P=( 6.05 x 105 )( L)(Q1.85)

(C1.85) (D4.87)

Where Q = 20 igpm=90.91 Ltr/min

L = 282.4 ft = 86.1 m
C = 120
D = 50 mm
Hence, P = 0.17 bar
= 1.73 m
= 5.67 ft
Pump Head, H= 14.6 + 24.6 + 5.67
= 44.87 ft
Add 10 % ≈ 50 ft

Calculated Pump Capacity = 20 igpm @ 50 feet head
