Data Data Data

F32:Power-on zero:
The HB8212X1 will automatically zero the display once at the AC power is connected, if the
power-on zero function is valid, the user can select the power-on zero function to be valid or
inhibited via F32
F33: Zero range
The HB8212X1 allows the user to press the (ZERO) keys to return the display to the center of
zero when the weighing device is empty. This function works only if the offset value is within
the set limit, which is called zero range, of the weighing device full capacity. The user can
select a ZERO range via F33. The default value for the zero range is “0”: 2% capacity.
F34: Zero tracking
The zero tracking function automatically adjusts slow drifts of the zero point & slight shifting of the
zero point due to a small amount of material left in a scale
(1). Zero Tracking Method :
If there is a small deviation, beyond the zero point, within a set range and this state
continues for more than a set period, the HB8212X1 will automatically bring the display back

<2>. Zero Tracking Settings :
The zero tracking range is denoted by the minimum scale division and the zero tracking period
is denoted by the time in seconds. The default value for the zero tracking range and the period
isx"5: 2.0 d/2 sec.".
F35: Stable detection:
(1)Stable detection method:
1. To compare the present A/D conversion data (DO) with several times A/D conversion
data (D1~DN) that in 1 second before.
2. If the differences which are generated by each comparison are all within a set range and
this stated continues for more than a set period, the stable turns ON (▼STAB will be
turned ON)
3. If any one of the differences is above the set range, the stable signal turns OFF (▽STAB
will be turned OFF)

(2)Stable detection settings:
The HB8212X1 needs the user to select a stable range and a stable period via F35 to
perform the stable detection. The minimum scale division denotes the stable range and the
stable period is denoted by the time in seconds. The HB8212X1 will be easier to enter the
stable state if a larger stable range and a shorter stable period is selected, although the
display may be fluctuant. The default value for the stable range and the stable period is
“5”: 2D/0.5sec
F36:Digital filter
HB8212X1 is designed to use the double stages digital filter to reduce fluctuation of a weight
value. These digital filters are proceed by the moving average meth

(2) 1st stage digital filter:
The number of data to be average by the first stage digital more can be selected from 2 to 32 via
F36.The display will be more stable if the number of moving average times increases, but the
response will be worse instead.
(3) 2ndnd stage digital filter:
When the stable signal turns ON, HB8212X1 inserts the 2nd stage digital filter to restrain
fluctuations of the weight value.
F37~F40 : Function keys control
There are four function keys ([ZERO], [TARE], [GR/NT], [TARE RESET])
on the HB8212X1 front panel can be inhibited via F37~F40 to avoid
misoperation.
F41 : Auto Net Weight Display
When the "Auto Net Weight Display" function is set on, the HB8212X1
will switch to the net weight display automatically after a tare
weight has been set, and to the gross weight display after the tare
weight has been reset.
4.2 Calibration:
Your HB8212X1 should be calibration when first installed, or after a weighing system component
( load cell, A/D circuit board,….etc.) has been changed. All weighing systems should be
calibrated at least 30 every six months. Please allow a warm up (plugged in) for at least 30
minutes to achieve thermal stability before starting calibration. For best accuracy, calibrate with
as near to full span weight as possible.
Full Calibration Procedure :
Step 1: Open the CAL switch cover on the rear panel and slide the CAL switch ON
Step2:Setting Decimal place via (F60)
Step 3: Set the minimum division via F61
Minimum division can be set to1,2,5,10,20,or 50
Step 4: Set the maximum division via F62
The maximum capacity is the full weight that you want your weighing device to handle. This
could be the rated capacity of the load cells, or some other limit you wish to set.
The maximum capacity also has a relationship to the display resolution. In general, the display
resolution of an indicator has the form of a ratio of the maximum capacity to the minimum
division, The display resolution of the HB8212X1 can be from 300 to 12000. Thus,
The maximum capacity
300≦ ≦12000
The minimum division
Step 5: Proceed zero calibration via F63
The zero calibration is a process to give the HB8212X1 a base reference point, “zero”, to
the weighing when it has no weight on it.
(1) Select F63 function
Guidance message
C A L - 0
(2) Make sure that there is no weight on the weigher and the weigher is stable(▼STAB lights
ON), then press the (ENTER) key
(3) If the input signal from the load cell is ok, the HB8212 will display (End- 0) message for 2
seconds and the zero calibration will be done/
Guidance message
E n d - 0
(4) (ErrF631):
If the input signal from the load cell is unstable, the HB8212X1 will display (ErrF631)
message for 2 seconds then back to display (CAL-0) message to wait you to press the
ENTER key for doing zero calibration again
(5) (ErrF632)
If (ErrF632) is displayed instead of (End- 0), the HB8212x1 is not able to achieve zero
calibration because of the input signal from the load cell is negative
Make sure that the load is not damaged the +SIG and –SIG are connected properly before
you to re-calibration
(6) (ErrF633)
If (ErrF633) is displayed instead of (End- 0), the HB8212 is not able to achieve zero
calibration because of the input signal from the load cell is too large(over 30mV)
Make sure whether the load output is within the zero adjusting of the HB8212x1
Step6:Proceed span calibration via F64
The span calibration function allows you to set a reference point between the empty point (zero)
and the end point (Maximum capacity) of your weighing device that will give the HB8212 an
algebraic difference of each digital increment (division). With span calibration, the HB8212 can
accurately calculate what the weights are on the weighing device
(1) Select F64 function:
Guidance message
C A L - S P n

Guidance message
L. X X X X X X
(2) Apply an actual load (balance weight) on the weigher
For the best accuracy and linearity of the weight reading, calibrate with as near to full span
weight as possible.
(3) Enter the balance weight value to the HB8212X1 and make sure that the▼STAB is ON, then
press the (ENTER) key to proceed span calculation
(4) If the input signal from the load cell is ok, the HB8212X1 will display (End-SPN) message
for 2 seconds and the span calibration will be done.
Guidance message
E n d - s p N
(5) (ErrF641)
If the input signal from the load cell is unstable, the HB8212X1 will display (ErrF641)
message for 2 seconds then back to display (LXXXXXX) message to wait you to press the
(ENTER) key for doing span calibration again.
If the load cell input signal is unstable while doing the calibration, then adjust the settings of
the Digital Filter (F36) and the settings of the Stable Detection (F35) before you to
re-calibrate will be very helpful.
(6) (ErrF642)
If (ErrF642) is displayed instead of (End-spn), the HB8212X1 is not able to achieve span
calibration because of the input signal is too small. (under 0.6μV/division)
1.Check weigher the load cell is properly loaded or check whether the load cell output is
high enough to reach the span adjustment range.
2.Adjust the minimum division and maximum capacity ratio- resolution. Make the
resolution smaller
(7) (ErrF643)
If (ErrF643) is displayed instead of (End-SPn), the HB8212X1 is
not able to achieve span calibration because of the input signal is too large(over 120μ
V/division)
Check whether the load cell is properly loaded or check whether the loadcell rated output
falls within the span adjustment range.
Adjust the Minimum Division and Maximum Capacity ratio
Resolution. Make the Resolution higher.
(8) (ErrF654)
If (ErrF654) is displayed instead of (End-SPn), the HB8212 is
not able to achieve span calibration because of the balance weight value has been
mistakenly entered.
1. The balance weight must not be entered as a value equal to 0
2. The balance weight must not be entered as a value greater than the maximum capacity
3. The balance weight must be entered as a value which is a multiple of the minimum
division.
Step 7: Slide the CAL switch back to the OFF position and return the CAL switch cover to the rear
panel

4.3 F42~45 & F65~69:

1. Full digital calibration:
The full digital calibration function of HB8212X1 lets you precisely calibration any weighing
system. Values for zero and span weight can be entered digitally through the keyboard that
makes setting zero and span a breeze

(1 Weight reading calculation:

The weight reading is calculated by HB8212X1 in the form

Wt=(Cn(Wt)-Zp)/Sp
Where Wt is the weight reading value, Cn(Wt) is the original count from A/D converter at the
weight, Zp is the zero parameter, and Sp is the Span parameter
2 Full digital zero calibration

Full digital zero calibration is to set the zero parameter equal to the original count from A/D
converter at zero weight. Thus
Zp=Cn(Wt=0)

3 Full digital span calibration

Full digital span calibration is to set the span parameter equal to the original count from A/D
converter of each digital increment of weight. Thus
Sp= Cn(Wt=Wb)-Zp
Wb
Where Wb is the balance weight for calibration
2. Zero coefficient and Span coefficient:
In order to get the characteristic of the A/D conversion of each HB8212X1, we developed two factors
in HB8212X1. These are the zero & span coefficient. The original count from A/D converter is given
by
Cn(Wt=L)+L*Sc+Zc
Where L is the loading weight, Sc is the span coefficient, and Zc is the zero coefficient.
3. Does not need re-calibration when HB8212X1 is replaced:
consider the two HB8212X1 indicator A and B
Indicator A Indicator B
The zero coefficient zca zcb
The span coefficient sca scb
The A/D conversion count cna(Wt) cnb(Wt)
The zero parameter Zpa Zpb
The span parameter Spa Spb
The loading weight La Lb
The weight reading Wta Wtb

Wta=(Can(Wt=La)-Zpa)/Spa
Wtb=(Can(Wt=Lb)-Zpb)/Spb
Cna(Wt=La)=La*Sca+Zca
Cnb(Wt=Lb)=Lb*Scb+Zcb
If we set La=Lb=L
Then. from equation(4.3-7) and (4.3-8)
Can(Wt=L-Zca Cnb(Wt=L)-Zcb
L= Sca = Scb

Can(Wt=L)=(Cnb(Wt=L)-Zcb) Sca/Scb+ Zca

If the indicator A has been calibrated, and we want to use the indicator B to replace Indicator A. The
HB8212 can allow us to read out zca, sca, zpa, and spa from the indicator A and set these factors to the
indicator B, Once theZc, Sc, Zp, and Sp are set to the HB8212, the weight reading calculation will be
changed by the HB8212X1 as

﹛﹝Cnb(Wt=L)-Zcb﹞Sca/Scb+Zca﹜-Zpa
Wtb=
Spa
= Can(Wt=L)-Zpa =Wta
Spa
Thus, we can get the same weight reading of same load without RE-calibration when HB8212 is replaced

4. Summary:
(1).The zero and span parameters represent the characteristic of the weighing device. The zero and span
parameters are set after the calibration functions have been proceeded
(2).The zero and span coefficients represent the characteristic of the indicator. The zero and span
coefficient will be set to the HB8212X1 by Holbright at the time of shipping.
(3).F42~45 allow you to read out the Zc, Sc, Zp and Sp f
(4).F66~69 allow you to set the Zc, Sc, Zp and Sp to HB8212X1
(5).After HB8212X1 has been calibrated, the weight reading will be
calculated by using the equation and the memory buffers will be cleared.
(6).Once the Zc, Sc, Zp, and Sp are set to the HB8212X1, the weight reading will be calculated by using
the equation

HB8212X1 via F51.
<3>. The Data Output Mode should be set to the "Command Mode" to each
HB8212X1 via F48.
<4>. Stand-by State :
When the AC power is connected, the HB8212X1 will be in the
Stand-by State. When the HB8212X1 is in the Stand-by State, the
RS-422 receiver is set ON and the RS-422 driver is set OFF. That
is, the command can be received by the HB8212X1 but the reply
will not be answered.
<5>. Enabled State :
After the "RS-422 Enabled Command" has been transmitted by the
Host, the identified HB8212X1 will go to the Eanbled State and
the others will stand in the Stand-by State.
If the RS-422 ID Number has been set to 00, then the HB8212X1 is
Always in the Enabled State which can be used for one to one
connection.
When the HB8212X1 is in the Enabled State, both the RS-422
receiver and driver are set ON. That is, the command can be
received by the HB8212X1 and a reply according to the command
can also be sent to the host equipment.
