Simplifications and Extensions

Lesson 1 1. For a gifted student, I will give them a more advanced


packet where the questions are more in depth and involve
more critical thinking and more advanced vocabulary. I will
also allow the student to do research beyond the website I
gave to find more extensive research on the book.
2. For a student with an IEP, I chose a website that will read to
the students if they want that option. They can click on
what they want to read, and it will read the words as well as
give extra descriptions for further information.
3. For an ELL, I will provide the book to them in their native
language as well as offer the packet in their native language.
Lesson 2 1. For a gifted student, they will continue working through the
first two chapters of their advanced packet where they will
dive deeper into the activities.
2. For a student with an IEP, they can continue to have the
story be read aloud for them as well as draw the trait the
two main characters will have instead of writing about
them.
3. For an ELL, I will provide the story in their native language as
well as the packet. They can also draw the traits of the main
characters.
Lesson 3 1. For gifted students, their packets will contain different and
more advanced vocabulary words that they will have to find
the definitions for and write sentences on.
2. For a student with an IEP, I will use pictures and other media
to help them understand the vocabulary words. I will also
provide read aloud for the students who have trouble
reading independently.
3. For an ELL, I will have the vocabulary word in their native
language and allow them to write their poem in their
language along with the onomatopoeia in their native
language. They can translate it to English and share their
activities with the class.
Lesson 4 1. For gifted students, they will continue to work through their
“Frindle” packets where they will be able to work with more
advanced forms of idioms.
2. For a student with an IEP, they will have the opportunity to
have the chapters read aloud to them.
3. For an ELL, they will continue to work through their packet
which will have translations to their native language.
Lesson 5 1. For gifted students, their packets will contain instructions
for more advanced details of inferencing, and they will be
able to predict what will happen further along in the story.
2. For a student with an IEP, they will have the opportunity to
listen to the book be read to them online instead of
independently.
3. For an ELL, their packets will contain instructions in their
native language.
Lesson 6 1. For gifted students, their packets will contain instructions
for more advanced details of metaphors.
2. For a student with an IEP, they will have the opportunity to
listen to the book be read to them online instead of
independently.
3. For an ELL, their packets will contain instructions in their
native language.
Lesson 7 1. For gifted students, their packets will contain more
advanced instructions and they will be able to cite the pages
they got their information from.

money.

Lesson 9 1. For gifted students, their packets will contain more
advanced instructions and they will be able to cite the pages
they got their information from.
2. For a student with an IEP, they will have the opportunity to
explain how they felt about the ending of the story and
draw pictures representing what they think about the novel.
3. For an ELL, their packets will contain instructions in their
native language.
Lesson 10 1. For gifted students, they will have the opportunity to create
a more advanced word and create a complex sentence to go
along with that word.
2. For a student with an IEP, they will have the opportunity to
help pass out materials and collect finished work.
3. For an ELL, they will have the opportunity to create a word
that reflects their native language.
Culminating 1. For a gifted student, I will have them research further on
Andrew Clements life and dig deeper into other novels he
Experience has written.
2. For a student with an IEP, there are links on the website that
you can click to have the material be read to you.
3. For an ELL, I will allow the student to translate their
computer into their native language so they can better
research the author.
