Assignment-1
EE-2101
1) Explain the following terms:-
a) Cleat wiring.
=>Cleat wiring is a temporary wiring used for function and construction work. Wooden and
plastic cleats are used for this purpose.
b) Casing wiring.
=> Casing is the lower part of casing and capping wiring. It is fixed with the help of a real plug
and then the wires are layed out on the casing
c) capping wiring.
=> It is the upper and the covering part of a casing capping wiring. The capping provides
protection.
2) Explain the different types of wires.
=> The two types of wires are stranded and solid wires-
i) Solid wires-
• It is a long length of solid single conductor
• they offer low resistance, and are ideal to use in higher frequencies.
ii)Stranded wires-
• It comprises of multiple thin strands of conductor twisted together
• they are much more flexible and thus have a longer life
• these have superior cross-sectional area than solid wires for the same
Current carrying capacity.
3) Explain the various type of wood joints.
=> Some of the wooden joints are-
i) T-joint
ii) corner joint
iii) straight point.
iv) right angled joint
i)T-joint- The end of a piece of wood is butted perpendicular against another piece of wood.
This is the simplest and weakest joint.
ii)Corner joint- The end of two pieces of wood meet at a right angle. This is also known as
dovetail joint.
iii)Straight joint- a joint between the timbers which are laid edge to edge at 180° without a
tongue and groove, dowels or overlap to bind them; also called a square joint.
iv)Right angled joint- two pieces of wood are cut at an angle of 45° degree to make a joint.

4) Write the comparison between cleat wiring, wooden casing and capping, and conduit wiring.
=>
