Today’s Announcements:
✓ Reminder: there are no reading groups until November 16th.
✓ There is no school on November 11th for Remembrance Day. There are no online classes
scheduled for November 13th as I will be aiding our new students with their transition to
online classes. There will still be resource pick-up happening that day.
✓ Please assist your child in their efforts to not touch their computer/tablet during work
time unless the activity requires the computer. We are trying to keep the chats
that take place amongst students to break times and after school. If you child is
involved in these chats, please ensure you are monitoring them and ensuring that they
are being respectful. I am unable to control or monitor student chats. Thanks for your
assistance!

8:30-9:00 Physical Education & Parent Meeting
Students are expected to be completing physical activity of some sort during
this time. Stuck? Check out our class website under the “Physical Education”
tab.
Parents, please be logged on to TEAMs prior to 8:30. Our meeting will likely be
wrapped up by 8:45.
***Once our parent meeting has wrapped up, please help your child complete the
“Physical Education Reflection” page and send it in to me!***
9:00-9:20 Language Arts: Writing: Information Writers are Teachers
Writers of information books are teachers, teaching their readers about things
they know well. We will begin by examining a non-fiction book and comparing it to
a fiction story. Students will then be inspired to brainstorm things that they
know about. Maybe it’s riding a bike or playing a sport, maybe it’s their family,
maybe it’s how to take care of an animal. It could be anything! We will talk
about how information writers think of a topic, then think of facts they can
write about that topic. We will use our hands as graphic organizers, with our
palm being the topic and fingers being the facts we can teach our readers.
9:20-9:45 Independent Work Time
Students can:
- Brainstorm topics they can teach about, using the hand model graphic
organizer
- Begin writing! Write one fact on each page. Draw pictures to illustrate
your facts.
9:45-9:55 Share
Students may share their ideas or their story.
9:55-10:20 Independent Work Time
Continued from above.
10:20-10:30 Share
We will once again gather to share our ideas and stories.

writing snap words
✓ 0-15 minutes playing literacy-
based games (Teach Your
Monster to Read, Dreamscape,
etc.)
12:15-1:20 Snack and Physical Activity Break
1:20-1:35 Science Demonstration: Discovering Surface Tension
Today we will be discovering surface tension!! Surface tension is the “skin”
created on the surface of a liquid that allows the liquid to fill over the brim of
a container. We will demonstrate surface tension by adding drops of water to a
nickel. We will see how many drops of water can fit onto the nickel and observe
how the water forms a “bubble” on top of the coin.
1:35-1:55 Science Experiment: Discovering Surface Tension (cont’d)
Students will be completing a surface tension activity at home. For this activity,
you will need water, a cup, and paper clips. Students will fill the cup to the top
with water, then slide paper clips down the inside wall of the cup, one at a time,
until the surface tension breaks and water drips down the outside of the cup.
How many paper clips can you add before your cup overflows?
Optional extension: try with a different liquid and compare the surface tension
of each liquid.
1:55-2:00 Science Experiment: Build a Water Strider
Have you ever heard of a water strider? Watch this video to see a water
strider in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CU8gYYkwSw
Today you will be trying to make your own water strider!! You will need a plate
with water (about a centimeter deep) and the thin wire that was sent home in
your package. Check out this link to see how you’re going to make your own
water strider! https://www.sciencebuddies.org/stem-activities/build-a-water-
strider#materials

wrapped up by 8:45.
9:00-9:15 Language Arts: Writing Mini-Lesson: Non-Fiction Writers Teach with Pictures
We will look back at our non-fiction book. Students will see that non-fiction
books always have pictures. Pictures are a very important part of non-fiction

4
books, even the non-fiction books that adults read. To do this, we will examine
the pictures in a non-fiction book and talk about how they are different from
the pictures we see in fiction books. Why would the authors of information
books use pictures in that way? We will talk about adding arrows, words, and
“zoom-ins” to our information books.
9:15-9:45 Independent Work Time
Students can:
- Brainstorm topics they can teach about, using the hand model graphic
organizer
- Begin writing! Write one fact on each page. Draw pictures to illustrate
your facts.
- Add to your illustrations. In what ways can you make it a non-fiction
illustration?
9:45-9:55 Share
Students may share their ideas or their story.
9:55-10:20 Independent Work Time

10:20-10:30 Share
We will once again gather to share ideas and stories.
10:30-11:05 Snack and Physical Activity Break
11:05-11:10 Math Mini-Lesson: Counting 10s and 1s
We will look at breaking down a number into tens and ones. While this seems
straightforward, it is something that many students struggle with. To help,
practice skip counting by 10, use 10-frames, and use manipulatives that
represent 10s and 1s (10s are represented with a rectangular item like popsicle
stick or q-tip and 1s are represented by something smaller and round like a
cotton ball (broken into smaller pieces) or centimeter cubes). The dollar store
has a plethora of things that could work!
11:10-11:40 Math Independent Work Time
Students will complete pages 37 and 38.
Number of the Day = 11 (students will complete page 89)
11:40-11:55 Math Mini-Lesson: Counting On
We will practice counting on again, this time with numbers to 100. If students
were struggling with 10s and 1s, feel free to integrate that in as you work on the
next couple of pages.
11:55-12:25 Math Independent Work Time
Students will complete pages 41 and 42.
Number of the Day = 12 (students will complete page 90)
12:25-1:20 Snack and Physical Activity Break
1:20-1:35 Social Studies – Animals in Saskatchewan
What animals do you think we might find in Saskatchewan? We will first develop
a mind map of animals we think might inhabit Saskatchewan!
Then, we will open our Prairie Animals booklet and investigate the animals that
are found there!
1:35-2:35 Social Studies – Independent Work Time
Using the links to videos, websites, and games, students will investigate prairie
animals. They will record facts that they learn on the respective pages in their
5
Prairie Animals booklet. There will be time to finish this next week, so do not
feel the need to get this all done today!
2:35-2:45, Miss Bourassa’s Office Hours
