SELF CARE 2
Reflection
Throughout my college experience, the importance of self care has always been
emphasized. Now more than ever, self care has made a stronger impact on our lives. Nurses,
along with other professions that work in high-stress environments, are often at risk of burnout. I
am the kind of person that enjoys learning and trying different things, so my self care activities
reflected this. I did my usual hobbies, such as playing guitar, singing, and dancing, and I tried
newer activities, such as aromatherapy, journaling, and various relaxation activities. Among
these, I was able to learn that my favorite ones are journaling and exercise. With these breaks, I
allowed my brain to rest, and I felt as if I was able to focus better as soon I got back to doing
schoolwork. Nurses will encounter multiple ethical dilemmas that will take mental and
emotional energy, so it is important that they are well equipped to handle such situations.
Exercising is not only great for physical health, but it’s also an effective method to boost mood
and cognition. Journaling is also a great way to reflect on the day and to release any emotions on
paper. Both of these methods can be helpful to nurses in terms of being in a healthier mental
state to process information and make clinical decisions. These can also be beneficial for coping,
as these can help clear your mind and relieve stress. It is important for nurses to be aware of the
importance of self care and to incorporate these activities into their lives in order to prevent
burnout and provide the highest quality care towards patients. This assignment helped me be
more aware of which activities worked best for my wellbeing, and I will incorporate these into
7/3 walking w/ my dog (30 mins), 7/18 Journaling (30 mins), video chat
journaling (30 mins) with friends (3 hrs)
