About the Class:
The NSTP2-LTS Section H, a Summer 2013 Class under the supervision of Miss Destiny Lutero
was composed of Twenty-Five students from different Colleges in UPLB. Classes were held from April 11-
May5, 2013, Monday to Friday from 2:45-4:30 at the CAS Building Basement Room 8.

For their Fieldwork, LTS2-H facilitated a one-day Teambuilding and Drugs Symposium participated
by Sangguniang Kabataan Members on May 5, 2013.

NARRATIVE REPORT
I. The Start of LTS2

On the eleventh of April, the first day of summer classes in UPLB, in CAS B08, we were greeted by
about fifty students, girls and boys; most of them chattering with their friends, some staring into space, and
some watching the petite woman in front, waiting for a signal that everyone should settle down and be quiet.
That didn‘t take long for as the last student entered the room, she rose from her seat and introduced herself.

She said her name and then informed everyone that she could only accommodate two more
students. She read off the names in her class list and realized that there were around 25 students who
wanted those two slots. And so the race for the two slots commenced.

Ma‘am Destiny Lutero had her enlisted students help her in choosing the rightful students who get
to embark on their LTS2 journey with them.

All the students who wanted the slots were to give their nickname, the reason why they should get
the slot, and ask Ma‘am Des a question. The twenty-five people introduced themselves and the colleges
they came from and gave their reasons which varied from they were graduating soon to I don‘t have
anything to do this summer.

They were then asked to leave the room.

After much deliberation – which consisted of random babbling of names and reasons – there were
three new additions to the class; King, an AgriBioTech student who is good in painting and could imitate
different animal sounds, Mikka, a Biology student who was graduating next semester, and Jez, a BS Stat
student who was also graduating soon.

This was the first of the many events that will happen to this crazy group of people.

The very next day, CAS B08 was filled with a quiet tension beneath the warm aura given off by the
different people who are to build the class. They were in that one room but they did not know each other. To
get rid of this tension, Ma‘am Des asked everyone to form a big circle to eliminate the teacher-student
barrier. She then asked everyone to play the concentration game.

The concentration game which involves several hand movements was used to determine the order
of introducing themselves. When the students commit mistakes during the game, they would be asked to
say their name, their expectations of the course, and something interesting about themselves. And like the
tributes for the two slots the day before, they were given the chance to ask Ma‘am Des a question, any
question they want to ask aside from asking what her height is.
This came and went and although we can still feel the awkwardness radiating from the members of
the class, there was a sense of relief from everyone, a hopeful feeling that maybe this summer was going to
be worth remembering.

II. The Team Building Activity

We‘re back again in that room in the basement, with everyone dressed in what supposedly are their
most comfortable clothes. Today was a much awaited day for Ma‘am Des, and a much dreaded day for
some if not most of the students. It was the day of the team building activity.

Ma‘am Des divided the class into three teams. Team G, Team I, and Team Joe. She then
explained the goals of the first activity which were:

1.) Each team must score at least four points;


2.) One team must score more than the other two; and
3.) There will be a consequence for the lowest scoring group

They then proceeded with the game. It wasn‘t a very clean game if you look at it carefully. They
played Pass-the-Message, a game you can see children playing on a normal sun shiny day, but they did not
play with the same bout of innocence. They were all focused on the goal. Call it competitive if you want.

The determined looks on their faces, the smirks and laughter, showed that they were enjoying the
game and they would be happier if they meet the goal of having four points. They were asked to write down
the second verse of the university hymn ―UP Naming Mahal‖ as the first message to be passed. It was an
embarrassing feat as no team got everything right. The second, and is surely the easiest, was a set of six
countries. Everyone got this round right. And for the third and last round, they were asked to pass an image.
It was a drawing of a girl with mouse ears and arms raised to form 90 degrees, holding a balloon, and right
under the balloon is a sun with eight rays. It seems pretty simple but once again, no group got it right.

In the end, Team Joe won with six points, followed by Team I, with 5 points, and Team G, with 3.5
points. You can see the relief in the faces of the first two groups, and the look of terror in the faces of the last
group. They weren‘t able to meet one of the goals of the activity and they were to be punished.

Their faces took an unpleasant and shocked turn as Ma‘am Des explained the gravity of the last
group not getting enough points. Everyone misunderstood the goal. When Ma‘am Des said every group
should have at least four points or there will be consequences, she meant EVERY group should have four
points or else EVERYONE will be punished.

It was then decided that there were five people to sing UP Naming Mahal in front as punishment for
the whole class.
After everything was settled, Ma‘am Des introduced the first two of the seven Cs that will guide the
students throughout the summer; Communication, and a Clear and Common Goal. She pointed out that in a
team, there should be good communication and they should all be working towards a clear and common
goal. She used the Pass-the-Message activity as an example of an unclear goal which she knew her
students misunderstood right from the beginning. You could say that she was really wishing for one of the
teams to fail to have four points.

The second activity was called Buhat Bangko. Six armchairs were prepared for the activity, two arm
chairs per team. They were asked to select easy, medium, and hard actions before they proceeded with the
game. They arranged themselves by height, as per instruction of Ma‘am Des, and they were asked to count
off from one to five. The game went as Ma‘am Des calls the number of the members who have to put
themselves onto the chairs with no body aside from the buttocks touching the ground, and the actions, from
the ones they made, they would have to perform for ten seconds.

After all the laughter and crazies that went, the activity finally ended with everyone dizzy. Each
group survived this activity with flying colours and got their well-deserved chair breaks.

Ma‘am Des then explained to the class the three Cs that governed this activity: Collective
Leadership, or deciding as a team instead of following only one voice or succumbing to group think;
Collaborative Climate and Cooperation, which entails the open mindedness of every member of the group to
the different ideas that may arise; and Culture of Concern, which is looking out for one another and making
sure that everyone is okay.

They then had their third active which was the Tower. They were asked, as one class, to build a
tower using everything they‘ve got that could support the little pouch Ma‘am Des had. So everyone stacked
their bags together and after three tries, they finally made their pyramid-looking tower.

They then went back to their circle and shared what the tower symbolized for them. And here
comes the seventh C, Commitment. Everyone gave a little of themselves to the team to be able to build the
tower and it represented that they were willing to commit to the group. Ma‘am Des then asked them why
they didn‘t give everything they had, like their clothes, laptops, phones. This was promptly answered by
some of the students. They reasoned out that you should give to your team what is bound for your team, and
that you should always leave something for yourself as you need to be strong to be able to help the team.

Everyone left the room that day with a realization and a promise. They left that room that day as
one team.
III. The Preparation for the Fieldwork

Mam Des initially instructed to the class that this summer, they were just going to make materials
for the program Bantay Buntis which was what the previous NSTP class from CAS was mainly focused on,
and so to determine if this is what the class for this summer would really do, a brain strorming took place

The class was started with a game before proceeding with the brainstorming activity. The game
determined which students will work on the lecture and the teambuilding activity on the day of the fieldwork.
The game played was ―one knot-two knot‖. It was decided by the class that the first seven losers would be
part of the Drugs Committee. The members of the Drugs Committee were the people responsible for the
lecture proper on the day of the fieldwork. It was decided by a game since nobody wanted to volunteer
since being a member of the DC would mean you would be part of two committees as the whole class
would also be divided into different committees which everybody would be required to be part of one.

After the game, the people chosen to be part of the DC and the rest of the class proceeded to the
brainstorming activity. The DC talked about the approach and the content they would use on the lecture.
The DC also discussed games they can use that would still incorporate the main topic of the lecture.
Everything was decided that day and one member of the DC volunteered to do the first draft which was due
the next day.

The rest of the class on the other hand, talked about the appropriate activities for the teambuilding.
They decided to divide themselves into four as they deemed it right because they agreed on having four
stations for the teambuilding activity. The four stations was named after the important lessons the
participants should learn after playing the game in each station; Communication, Competence, Collective
Leadership and Cooperation, Culture of concern and Collaborative climate station.

Each group discussed the games they would use in the fieldwork that would best incorporate the
lesson assigned to them. Before the class ended, every group already had a definite plan of action.

At the end of the class, everyone was asked to fill-up a number of student info sheet containing
contact information which was later on distributed to each person in the class.

A. Outline of Modules ( 1st draft )

Like in the previous meeting, the class was again started with a game. This time, the losers
had to sing as a consequence.
Every group assigned to the four stations, save the Drugs committee, handed out the first draft
of their modules to the professor after the game.

Each group was tasked to do the outline following the ADIDS framework— ACTIVITY,
DISCUSSION, INPUT, DEEPINING and SYNTHESIS. The content of the modules were decided
during the brainstorming activity in previous meeting.

All the groups except for the Drugs committee were able to comply with the requirement and
passed their outputs on time. As for the DC, the person who volunteered to do the rough draft on
the module of the lecture was absent that day.

B. Material planning (2nd draft); Committee assignment.

The class is buzzing energy after playing a game. Somehow, playing a game had become like
some kind of a ritual before starting class activities.

After the game, the class discussed how many and what committees would be formed.

First, the class enumerated the tasks that would need to be done on the day of the fieldwork
and grouped them according to their nature. It was later on agreed that the tasks to be done would
be would grouped into four thus, giving birth to the four committees.

The four committees were the Logistics, Finance, Program and the Documentation. The task of
the Finance committee included collecting contributions from each member of the class and
allotting budget for the foods and other expenses that would be used on the field work. The
Logistics committee was responsible for all the physical labors in preparing the venue of fieldwork
and creating props and visual aids. The documentation committee, needless to say, was
responsible for the final report after the fieldwork and lastly, the Program committee was the one
responsible for the flow of the events for the whole day on the date of the field work.

The class then proceeded on deciding the number of members each committee should have. It
was settled that the Logistics committee needed 7 people, the Finance 5, the Documentation
needed only 3 and the Program would made use of 9 people.

After determining the number of people needed to work on the tasks assigned to the
committees, the class then proceeded on choosing the members of each committee. This time, the
process was faster than before because most of the members of the class already have a
committee they thought they could be of-best use and thus volunteered to be part of them.
Shortly after, the class hour was already over but before they were dismissed, the groups
assigned to work on the stations and the Drugs committee was asked to hand in their second draft
of module. All the groups submitted their revised drafts except for the DC which hasn‘t handed in
their first draft yet.

C. Material planning (3rd draft); Committee assignment.

As usual, the class played a game before starting the lesson and discussion of activities for the
day.

The line-up of activities of the class for that day included the submission of all the groups‘ 3rd
draft of modules and meeting among the members of all the committees. Again, all the groups
were able to hand in their revised drafts except for the DC. This time, the professor informed the
DC that she can no longer wait for the first draft of the Drug committee‘s module and told them to
submit their last draft without their first draft along with the other groups.

The deadline as close as the next day after the task was given and the fact that nobody among
the members of the drug committee have seen the first draft yet put the drug committee in a pinch,
as the professor clearly told the class that she is very strict with deadlines and does not accept late
outputs.

Putting that aside, the Committees proceeded on their meeting for the upcoming field work. All
the committees started their discussion with the division of labors among their members. The
committees also decided on whom their committee heads would be.

The Logistics committee asked the other committees to give them a list of materials they
would need on the fieldwork and a specific instruction on how the other committees wanted their
visual aids and props to look like, the Finance committee announced in the class the options for the
foods to be served on the day of the fieldwork and also asked the classed for other opinions. The
Documentation committee announced in the class that aside from the personal journals of
everyone in the class, the committee heads are also required to pass a committee report containing
the problems encountered by each committee, how they solved them and an evaluation of their
members. The head of the Program committee presented in the class the initial time table for the
day of the fieldwork their committee came up wit. The people assigned on a certain task at each of
the given time were also included on the timetable, which the class have revised and agreed upon.
D. Material planning (final draft); Committee assignment.

This meeting, the class passed on playing games and proceeded on the lined-up activities of
class.

To start off, all the groups, including the Drugs committee submitted the final draft of their
modules. The committees then proceeded on the meeting among their members.

The groups assigned on the stations for the teambuilding activity gave the Logistic committee
the materials they needed for the fieldwork. The Logistics also did a canvas on the prices of the
materials all the stations needed and asked the Finance committee for the budget that would cover
the expenses. The Finance committee completed the collection of contributions from the members
of the class and announced the foods they have decided to serve on the day of the fieldwork. The
Program committee presented in the class the final schedule of tasks for the fieldwork. The
certificates to be given to the participants of the lecture were not yet ready as Dr. Mendioro has yet
to sign them.

The Documentation committee reminded everyone of the points they have to take note of and
the important things that should appear on their reports. The only thing left now is the execution of

IV. The Fieldwork

After the painstaking weeks of preparing for this major activity, the big day finally came. Anticipation
and thrill ran through every faces in the class – having to put their hard work into execution at last. The class‘
excitement stretched and with still a healthy amount of time to spare, committees were only running the last
of the preparations - the four stations for the team-building activity already prepped up and the rest of class
just waiting for the go signal from the event head. The call time was 7 in the morning for the program was
supposed to start after an hour with the arrival of the SK leaders, the participants of the activity.

As planned, the whole of the morning will be devoted for the team-building activity while in the
afternoon, there will be a short lecture on drugs. The class was divided into four stations – each was asked
to prepare an activity where they can incorporate the 7C‘s – a concept that is essential in any group-related
works. With everything ready, everyone couldn‘t wait to get started.

However; the class met with an unforeseen predicament. Nobody predicted such kind of surprise
from the participants - as the supposed original sixteen (16) participants came to CAS Annex 2 MPH2 with
only 5 representatives. They were also an hour and half late delaying the program and demanding time
adjustments from the program committee. And because there is no contingency plan prepared for such
predicament, it immediately put everyone into worry. It was a good thing that the class was flexible although
they have to double their efforts for the adjustments and few modifications here and there to be made. And
with optimism and strong determinism, the alternative plan was pushed through.

Since the five participants will only form one team, the moderator along with the class decided to
choose three from the LTS students who weren‘t able to participate in the team-building inside the
classroom to join the SK participants with the activity. Three LTS students along with one SK participant
teamed up and formed the group ‗Hello Team‘ against ‗Barney and Friends Team‘ composed of four SK
participants.

There are four stations which they are required to pass through to complete the puzzle. In-between
the stations, there are short discussions regarding the activity the team had just finished. These discussions
were all about the 7 C‘s: Competence, Collective Leadership, Collaborative Climate and Cooperation,
Culture of Concern, Communication, Clear and Common Goal and Commitment.

The first station is Competence in which the participants are faced with different kinds of challenges
that will measure their capacity in different kinds of work. This station aims to let the participants evaluate
their competence level in making tasks. The second station is Collective Leadership. The facilitators in this
station prepared an activity which emphasizes collective leadership within a group. The third station is Clear
and Common Goal and Communication. The station prepared an obstacle course for each to pass through
smoothly – only all of the members are blindfolded except for the last person in the line who will guide the
team through the whole course and with all their right wrists tied together. This aims to develop
communication and clear and common goal for the participants. The fourth station is Culture of Concern,
Collaborative Climate and Cooperation wherein the participants have to pass through a web made from
straws without touching it. This aims to see if any of three mentioned c‘s are present in the team. The last
station in which the whole class facilitated was the Commitment Station. The participants are asked to make
the longest line using any of their belongings. It is to measure how many of their things are they willing to
shell out and how much of their selves are they willing to commit if the group is at stake.

The facilitators proved to be a great help in guiding the participants to this activity and complete the
puzzle that will mark their accomplishment of the task. It has been a great avenue for the participants as well
as the facilitators in learning new things that they will be able to incorporate in the future.

After the exhausting team-building activity which was done outdoors, everybody went back to
CASA2 MPH2 for the continuation of the program. It was a good thing that merienda and cold drinks were
served to the participants during the briefing, even before the team building activity started since the activity
proved to be physically tiring. Left with little energy to spare, the participants asked a short break from the
class. And since the time was almost striking noon, it was decided that lunch was to be served. To further
add entertainment, everybody watched The Lion King will filling their stomachs with the delicious meal
prepared by the Finance Committee.

By the time that the program resumed, everybody was sated. A short lecture on drugs prepared by
an LTS student followed immediately. Using ADIDS, drugs and its effects were explained to the SK
participants. Afterwards, an engaging and creative activity that served as application of the things the
participants learned from the lecture was conducted. It seemed that not only the participants enjoyed the
activity but even the facilitators as well.

When the activities are finished, the awarding of the winners with the certificates to follow came up
next. The whole class were filled with gratitude to the participants who came and made the even possible.
After the last of thanks were exchanged, the SK participants asked if they can finish watching The Lion King,
for the program resumed before the movie was finished. So while the participants watched the movie, the
rest of the class gathered on the back of the room to conduct an evaluation on the event, on the moderator
and to the class of LTS itself.

It had been an emotional evaluation as the class learned that it was also the last day of the class. It
had been a memorable day for everybody as many things have happened that day. There are parts of the
program that were omitted because of the delay and there are people who were frustrated, disappointed and
stressed with the preparation of the activity. But as the class saw the wide smiles from the participants, they
were decided that it was worth it after all. The class even had a time for a candid shot before everybody
went home.

V. Problems Encountered and Recommendations.

Like any other soap opera, or movie or novella, it is not always a smooth road for the LTS2 Class.
Though each meeting is been highly anticipated by each student to be filled with laughter, fun and a time to
get to know each other more, there also came sometime wherein problems and challenges arise in class.

But no matter how small or huge these problems were, the class together with Mam Destiny
manage to come up with solutions or a compromise to resolve these obstacles.

There were three major problems that the class had to face, and here are the solutions and
recommendations they came up with.

A. What to do in LTS2?
Majority of the LTS2 students enrolled in the course with the purpose of teaching
children and yet theywere told that they were going to do pregnancy brochures/pamphlets for
the Bantay Buntis—an ongoing project/collaboration of the whole NSTP wing of CAS. But as
days go by and with the surveys from previous classes, the class found out just how
complicated the project was.
And so, to search for a solution for this, the class had a brainstorming activity and as a
whole decided if they are still going to push through with it. Luckily, there came the SK,
through the work of Ma‘am Des, .they were asked them if they were willing to help the class
and what they needed. Thus, was the birth of the team building activity/ lecture on drugs.
To avoid this problem, early planning and extensive research and brainstorming on the
needs of the people as well as the NSTP students should be done to determine the most
efficient and productive literacy training activity. It‘s not really bad to take risks and try
something new because you‘ll never know it may lead to something which can be very useful
in the long term.

B. The Unexpected Number of SK Participants


The whole LTS2 class poured all their efforts for the success of the fieldwork activity, and
just as when everyone thought everything is all set and the Fieldwork will go on smoothly the
unimaginable happened;
During the preparation and planning, the class expected at least 13 participants to come,
everything was settled from the food, the venue, the program and the materials but only FIVE
participants arrived and they were late by almost two hours. And because of this, the class had
to make drastic adjustments in the whole fieldwork activity. This was a very heartbreaking
incident yet they still managed to put up their best smiles and push through with the activity.
To compensate for the number of participants, some of the LTS2 students had to join the
Team Building Activity. But on the brighter side, this incident paved way to test the readiness
and adaptability of the LTS2 students, though there were a lot of problems in the fieldwork,
through hard work and cooperation of each member of the class, these problems were easily
solved and everyone still had a great time during the activity plus, they learned a great lesson:
to be prepared to adapt in every unexpected turn of situation possible and still manage to be
positive about it.

VI. Conclusion
When asked what the Highlight of LTS2 was, each student had different answers but the
truth is the real highlight of this class was the students themselves. TWENTY-FIVE people
from different Colleges and Degree Programs who just probably wanted to complete the
National Service Training Program this summer on order to go on with their UP Life and
graduate on time—in time and one great NSTP Instructor, Ma‘am Destiny Lutero met in CAS
Basement 08 and had the summer experience which they can never, ever forget. The real
highlight was the bond form by each and every member of the class, the laughters that echoed
in the four corners of the room, the passion and hard work everyone exerted and the hotter-
than-summer lesson that in life, it‘s not only the student who learns something new, but also
the one who shared his/her knowledge which can be more precious than any other things
found in books and.. modules.

TEAM BUILDING MODULES

A. COMPETENCE STATION

Activity Procedure:
Each team, consisting of four to five members, has to finish four substations as fast as possible. There
are substations in which not all members of the team are required to participate so they must choose among
members the most fit to do the challenge. However, all members are required to participate in at least one of
the activities. The four substations are as follows:
1. Puzzle – In this station, each team must choose three (3) members who will be forming two figures
out of the puzzle pieces in the shortest time possible.
2. Sack Race – Only three (3) out of the four members of each team can participate in the sack race.
One at a time, the participants have to put on the sack up to their waist and must hop towards a
certain point and make a u-turn from that point and hop back to the starting line. Once he returns to
the starting line, he must take off the sack and give it to the next member. The team must do this
until all three players are done.
3. Calamansi Relay – Like the previous substation, only three (3) out of the four members of each
team can participate in this activity. All participants have spoons in their mouths and they will use
these spoons to pass the calamansi to the next participant after they complete the whole course.
Using of any body part in the passing of the calamansi is prohibited.
4. Polvoron Eating – The goal of this last substation is to produce a sound or to sing a song while
eating the Polvoron. Each member has to finish this stage and after that, a cheer has to be
presented to indicate the completion of the whole activity. The winning team will receive a
certificate and a prize.

Discussion:
The following are guide questions in bringing out insights from the participants:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. How did you choose the members who participated in every substation? (Note: Not all members
are allowed to participate)
3. Were there any difficulties in choosing the participants?
4. What factors helped/prevented you from performing the activities properly?
5. What can you say about your performance? Your teammates‘ performance?

Input:
The main objective of this station is to establish competence and its essence within the competing
groups. Being competitive, as the dictionary defines it, involves or is determined by rivalry. But competence
is not merely something that builds rivalry between parties. It should not fabricate conflict between groups
rather institute struggle for the best. Competence is not only about winning and being better. It is about the
sacrifices, hardships, efforts and wisdom invested to bring out the best they can give.
The secondary objective of this station is to introduce the nine multiple intelligences in which three of it
is presented in the activity. These are the logical/mathematical intelligence, the musical/rhythmic intelligence
and the bodily/kinesthetic intelligence. In the first substation, the puzzle, logical skills, abstract thinking and
grace under pressure will be put to test. In the second substation, the sack race, physical strength and
speed will be the point of emphasis. In the third station, the calamansi relay, balance and speed will be the
focus, and in the last station, the polvoron eating, musical intelligence will be tested. The challenges in the
activity are not only meant to introduce the intelligences but also to instill to the participants that one cannot
possess all nine intelligences. They are like body parts which performs its own function. With the body
lacking a part, it will not be able to do its function properly thus making it impossible or difficult to achieve a
satisfying result.
In conclusion, to be competent means to possess intelligence and skill. To be successful, one must be
humble to accept that he needs people who will complement his shortcomings.

Objectives:

served as the obstacles

Procedure:

1. Assuming that the group has 4 members, the members should choose 3 individuals who will be
blindfolded and 1 member who will serve as the eyes of the group who will give directions.
2. The facilitator will tie the straw to the right foot of the members (chain like)
3. The goal is to get out of the room without touching the obstacles. The one who is not blindfolded
should be at the back of the line and is entitled to instruct the blindfolded members.
4. The group should be able to get out of the room after 10 minutes.
5. After the activity, the group will share their experiences during the activity and the facilitators will
discuss the goals with the use of the experiences of the members.

• Each member must cross the web without touching the web; failure to do so will result to an
additional 20 seconds to their record time.
• No two members should cross the same hole.
• The timer stops when all the members of the group have been able to cross the web.

welfare of one another in the group which leads to formation of trust among members; which is
generally crucial in every group. Lastly, the activity also demonstrates how a working and engaging
environment inspires camaraderie among members and help them focus on achieving their goals.
D. COMMITMENT

None (all the materials that will be used in the activity will come from the players)

Activity: Longest Line

Goal:

To produce or make a longest line out of their own materials, clothing, accessories, and gadgets.

Rules:

 The group is divided into 4 teams. Each teams consisting of 5 players


 The team that creates a longest line wins.
 Using money in the game is accepted.
 Prolonging a thread or any fiber-like material is prohibited.
 Jeans, shirts, accessories, gadgets, bags, and others materials they are wearing are accepted.

Discussion:

After the game, the participants are allowed to share their insights about their experiences and the
hardships that they encountered during the activity.:

In this part, the value and significance of the term COMMITMENT is discussed. The goal of this
part is to let the participants realize and understand the meaning of COMMITMENT. The facilitators
will discuss more on the value and share their own insights and opinions regarding the activity. At
the end of the activity, it is expected that the participants know and understand that
commitment helps you do things you wouldn't otherwise dream of doing.
DRUGS DISCUSSION MODULE

I. Activity

Sine Mo ‗To:

―Sine Mo ‗To‖ is originally a segment from ABS-CBN‘s variety show, ―Showtime‖ wherein a comedic skit will
be prepared for each week. The roles in the said skit are to be performed by the hosts, and a few chosen
members of the audience, who will win certain prize/s for participating.

Objectives:

This activity aims to show the audience the difference between drug use, drug misuse, drug abuse and its
effect on people through role-playing and story-telling. It will be interactive between hosts and participants
so that they could learn about drugs in a light and enjoyable way, while still having the lessons instilled into
them.

- Idiot board (script written in Manila paper)

Time: Around 30 minutes

Game Proper:

One of the hosts will act as the narrator and/or story-teller by describing what will happen in the skit, as the
other hosts perform what is asked by reading the script written on the idiot board. When asked by the
narrator, the hosts will seek participation from the audience by choosing people who fit the description
narrated best and asking them to play a role in the story. The activity will end when the entire story has been
performed.

II. Discussion

Sample Questions for Discussion:

1. What did you notice about the skit? How did the drugs affect the people involved?

2. Is the same situation happening in reality? In your barangays and communities? Elaborate.

3. How can drugs be both beneficial and harmful to people and society?

4. What are the different factors that may push people into doing drugs?

The discussion will be very participatory in nature. Thus, to ensure active participation from the audience,
the lecturers and/or facilitators would be asking each of the participants a question that would elicit answers
connected to the main lecture topic.

Participants would be asked about what happened with the characters during the act. Using observational,
reflective, integrative and decisional questions, the participants would have to relate what happened to the
characters with what is happening in reality. For example, how drugs affect their community and what he
would do instead, he was the one in the situation of a character who succumbed to peer-pressure and did
drugs. In a way, the participants will be able to loosen up and share about their own lives.

Through this, the facilitators would be able to assess the extent of the knowledge of the participants
regarding the subject at hand. Since the main topic of the lecture would be drugs, the facilitators would also
be asking questions that would lead to definition of terms such as drugs, drug abuse, drug smuggler, drug
pusher, drug addiction, etc. Defining terms, clarifications and correcting misconceptions about the subject
would be easier. Through this short question and answer activity, latching onto the main topic of the lecture
would be easier.

III. Input

A. Definition of Terms
Drug

A drug is a substance which may have medicinal, intoxicating, performance

animal and is not considered a food or exclusively a food.

Drug Abuse

Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, is a patterned use of a substance


(drug) in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods neither
approved nor supervised by medical professionals

Drug addiction

Drug addiction is long-term, compulsive drug use. The person may attempt to stop
using drugs, but repeatedly return to drug use despite physical, emotional, or social harm.
Drug dependence means that the body has begun to require the drug in higher doses to
have the same effect and to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Some drugs due to certain factors that change their characteristics, may cause them to fall under
different categories at different times. For example, even though Cannabis (Marijuana) is considered a
depressant, in high enough doses it can also be a hallucinogen.

B. Kinds of Drugs

Stimulants

 Stimulants are drugs that stimulate the brain and central nervous system, speeding up
communication between the two.
 They usually increase alertness and physical activity.
 They include amphetamines, cocaine, crack and some inhalants like amyl or butyl nitrites.
 Your everyday coffee is a stimulant that many people have formed an addiction to. Those who stop
drinking coffee even suffer withdrawal symptoms.

Examples:

Methamphetamine (Shabu)

 causes euphoria and excitement, prone to abuse and addiction.


 Users may become obsessed or perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning, hand-washing, or
assembling and disassembling objects.
 Withdrawal is characterized by excessive sleeping, eating and depression-like symptoms,
often accompanied by anxiety and drug-craving.

Cocaine

 In the brain cocaine alters the perception of feelings of pleasure, reality, and mood.
 Over the long term people who use cocaine often suffer from depression and display generally
self-destructive tendencies.
 Cocaine also causes a very rapid heart rate, elevates blood pressure, and increases body
temperature.
 At times these abnormal heart rates are fatal.
 With cocaine your first time could easily be your last.

 Depressants slow down the activity of the brain and nervous system, slowing down the communication
between the two.
 For medical purposes they can calm nerves, relax muscles and useful for sleeping disorders such as
insomnia.
 Depressants are typically taken into the body in pill form, as they are almost often prescription drugs.
However one of the more common (and readily available) depressants is alcohol, which is, of course,
drunk. And, the opioid heroin, is taken intravenously.

Examples:

Heroin

 usually smoked ('chasing the dragon'), snorted or prepared for injection. Heroin is a powerful pain
killer and has euphoric qualities.
 The combined effects make heroin a very effective escapist drug.

 At higher doses, the user may become heavily sedated, be sleepy, unable to talk, and appear to fall
asleep for a few minutes at a time. This is referred to as 'gauching' or 'nodding.'
 There is an unpleasant period of withdrawal (often called ―cold turkey‖). These symptoms may
begin within 6 to 24 hours of discontinuation and last for weeks, or even months after.

Symptoms include:sweating, malaise, anxiety, depression, general feeling of heaviness, excessive yawning
or sneezing, insomnia, cold sweats, chills, severe muscle and bone aches, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea,
cramps, fever

Kapanol, MS Contin, GHB
Hallucinogens

 Hallucinogens interfere with the brain and central nervous system in a way that results in radical
distortions of a user‘s perception of reality.
 Profound images, sounds and sensations will be experienced, but they will not actually exist.
 These are vivid hallucinations.

Examples:

LSD, Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin), PCP (Phencyclidine), Ketamine, Mescaline

Cannabis (Marijuana)

 While many psychoactive drugs clearly fall into the category of either stimulant, depressant, or
hallucinogen, cannabis exhibits a mix of all properties, perhaps leaning the most towards
hallucinogenic or psychedelic properties, though with other effects quite pronounced as well.

Effects:

- Distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch)


- Problems with memory and learning.
- Loss of coordination
- Trouble with thinking and problem-solving
- Increased heart rate, reduced blood pressure

C. Other facts about drugs:

 An estimate of $400 billion is being spent on illegal drugs yearly


 More than $125 Billion has been spent on illegal drugs this year
 Around $12,000 every second is spent on illegal drugs
 Roughly 230 million people have used an illegal drug at least once in 2010.
 5% of the world adult population aged 15-64 used illegal drugs at least once
 Every year, approximately 200,000 people worldwide die from drug abuse.
 Two of the world‘s most popular illegal drugs are cannabis (marijuana) and amphetamine-type
stimulants (ATS).
 There are an estimated 119-224 million marijuana users globally, making it the most popular illegal
substance in the world.
 Amphetamine-type stimulants, such as methamphetamine (but excluding ecstasy), come in second
with around 14-52.5 million users worldwide.
 As of now there are no signs that marijuana will lose its status as the illegal drug of choice, says the
report.

Alcohol is by far the greatest drug in use among high school students. Of other drugs,
marijuana is the most commonly used drug among teens. Even though most teens do not use drugs
every day, the truth is that most teens have had some sort of experience with drugs at least one point in
their lives. And, in the case of alcohol, nearly every teen has tried it.
 The drug that is most used among students in high school is alcohol.
 Excluding alcohol, the most used drug is marijuana which is an illegal drug.
 Although they do not use drugs every day, many teenagers already had experience with drugs at
least once in their lives.

According to a survey, teens in high school admitted to using drugs or alcohol in the past 30 days:

 Alcohol: 48%
 Marijuana: 19.9%
 Stimulants: 4.6%
 Other opiates: 4.3%
 Tranquilizers: 3.1%
 Sedatives: 2.9%
 Hallucinogens: 1.9%

The numbers change, however, when teen drug use is expanded to include usage over the past year:

Teenagers and young adults get involved with alcohol and drugs for many reasons. Some examples include:

 Curiosity: They want to know what it feels like to get high or be drunk.
 Peer pressure: Their friends are doing it.
 Acceptance: Their parents or role models are doing it.
 Defiance: They want to rebel against societal rules.
 Risk-taking behaviors: They need to send out a call for help.
 Thrill-seeking activities: They want to experience something other than numbness.
 Boredom: They feel they have done everything else exciting.
 Independence: They want to make their own decisions.
 Pleasure: They want to feel good.

E. Factors that affect drug abuse

There are two main factors that affect the abuse of drugs. The first would be the risk factor which would
branch into smaller categories such as:

1. Family

The root cause of this may be because of poorly built family relationships. Teenagers may feel isolated from
the family which makes them susceptible to the influence of their peers who use drugs.

2. Social Factors

A. Peer Groups

The influence of peers has been found to be one of the strongest predictors of drug abuse during
adolescence. It is said that peers are the ones to initiate the youth into drugs, provide drugs, and to
shape their attitudes towards drugs. Teenagers may use drugs for acceptance of their peers or to
complete their feeling of ―belongingness‖.

B. Role models

Role models may cause ―glamorization‖ of drugs.

3. Competitive Pressure

There is pressure to compete in athletics and aesthetics which leads some teenagers to resort to steroids,
pain killers, stimulants, and other supplements that may be hazardous to their health. Pressure in studies as
well opt teenagers to use stimulants and other drugs that claim to bring ―focus‖.

4. Personal Factors

Low self-esteem and stress would lead teenagers to use drugs as an alternative to their own emotional
unstableness.
The second factor would be on the protective side of things. Included here are the following:

1. Family

Strong family bonds, parental awareness of teen‘s social activities and peer groups, clear rules that are
consistently enforced.

2. Social Factors

Strong bonds to school and other organizations, associating with peers who are drug free, having supportive
and accepting friends.

3. Personal Factors

A commitment to success in academics and extracurricular activates and a personal belief that drug abuse
is unacceptable.

IV. Deepening

The Photo Booth Game

This game is usually called ―Freeze Frame‖ as the hosts tell the participants to recreate a scene in a couple
of minute, then freeze. However, for this module, the facilitators will take pictures of the scenes created by
each group for easier deliberation.

Objectives

This game will test the creativity and resourcefulness of the participants given a limited amount of time. This
will test how much they remember from what they learned in the input phase while applying their own
experiences or what they had previously known to their newly acquired knowledge.

Materials:

- Face Paint or Make-Up

- Camera

Time: Around 30 minutes

Game Proper:

The participants will be divided into three groups. Each group will be given face paint or make-up and other
materials for the game. Using their knowledge about how the effect of drugs on people, they will paint their
faces and/or bodies and portray the scene asked by the facilitators. Each group will be given 2 minutes per
round to prepare and plan on what they should do, after the time is up, they have to freeze and are not
allowed to move as the facilitator goes around to take a picture of the scenes, as if they are in a photo booth.
Ten different situations will be given. The most relevant and creative shots, according to the judges will win
per round. The team with the highest score after the ten rounds wins.

Judging Criteria:

The photos will then be judged by the facilitators following this breakdown:

Relevance to the topic – 70%, Creativity – 30% (Total: 100%)


V. Synthesis

Activity:

To test what the participants have learned, the facilitators will show pictures of famous actors and
actresses whose lives were greatly affected by their wrong use of drugs. This aims to make them realize the
weight of the decision of using and not using drugs has on each person. They will then be asked about what
they would do given the following situations:

1. Seeing a man smoking pot in the streets

2. All of your friends have tried marijuana and are pressuring you to try it as well

(Follow-up: What values must you have to avoid being pressured into doing drugs? Assertiveness,
Negotiation and Decision-making)

3. As student leaders, what would you do so that the youth will be better informed about the
dangers drug addiction brings our society?

4. What do you think the barangay leaders must do to better implement laws regarding drug abuse
in your community?

A drug is a chemical compound or substance that can alter the structure and function of the body.
Psychoactive drugs affect the function of the brain, and some of these may be illegal to use and possess.
However, a medication is a drug that is used to treat an illness or disease according to established medical
guidelines.

The use of drugs is a choice. It can be used to relieve a medical condition and with the right dosage
and intake, can help greatly until the medical need is over. However, drug use can also become harmful
when not acted upon with great care. For example, taking unhealthy amounts of medicine or self-medication,
this can turn the positive effects of drugs upside down. Another harmful way of dealing with drugs is being
mixed up with illegal drugs or harmful drugs. Children or teens who have problems, are depressed or have a
psychiatric disorder may feel as if the use of illicit drugs would help them. This is what we call drug abuse.

But when does drug abuse become drug addiction? Of course, it doesn‘t happen in the first use,
but as this becomes a habit and the effects of the drugs seem familiar to us, people have a tendency to feel
dependent and long for the kick the drugs give them. This is the easiest way to be trapped in the world of
addictive drugs that has been strongly influencing society for years. Some people might even take drugs just
because they want to feel pleasure and escape life‘s pressures. However, different people may reach the
point of addiction at different stages. Scientists continue to investigate the factors that contribute to the
transition to drug addiction.

Drug addiction is defined as ―the continued compulsive use of drugs despite adverse health or
social consequences‖. People who are addicted to drugs have lost control of their drug use. They also often
become isolated from family or friends, have difficulty at work or school, may commit crimes, and become
involved with the criminal justice system. For a person addicted to drugs, continuing to take them may
become a primary focus in life. This can also be considered a chronic, relapsing brain disease characterized
by compulsive drug-taking despite adverse health, social, or legal consequences.

The changes in the brain cause drug-addicted people not only to lose the ability to control their drug
use, but their addiction also changes all aspects of their lives. People with drug addiction often become
isolated from family and friends and have trouble in school or work. In addition, the compulsive need for
drugs can lead to significant legal problems, since a big part of the crimes committed in our community were
done under the influence of these addictive drugs.

Drug Addiction Treatments

Addiction can affect many different aspects of a person‘s life. But once one gets some help, there is
still hope. Scientific research has yielded a variety of effective approaches to treatment for addiction to
certain drugs, such as heroin. Treatment for addiction can be very effective. Treatment is successful when
the addicted person reduces or abstains from drug use, improves his or her personal health or social
function, and becomes less of a threat to public health and safety. Continuing research is yielding new
approaches to developing medications to treat addiction to other drugs, such as cocaine, for which no
medications are currently available.

Although this can be treated, it is still advised to stay away from drugs by being assertive and
having a firm stand on the issue. Now that you know both its positive and negative effects on your body, the
decision is still in your hands. You don‘t need drugs to look cool or escape the pressures of life. Drugs will
drag you down!

i. Teambuilding Activity

In general, the games for the teambuilding activity are very difficult most especially the ―pass the
message‖ game since we have to be able to memorize and pass the whole second paragraph of the song
UP Naming Mahal. Fortunately, some of our group mates knew the song, and thus, our group was able to
write the correct lyrics although we‘re the last one to do so. On the other game wherein we used chairs, I
think all three groups finished the tasks without mistakes since we‘re able to strategize our positions. Luckily
for our group, we finished with the highest total points; however, the whole class was not able to meet up
with one of its objectives for the teambuilding activity.

ii. Module Writing

On our group, we made suggestions on what game we are to conduct for the participants on the
fieldwork and we came up with the one wherein they should form a line and all of them will be blindfolded
except for the last one at the back of the line. That one will tell the others in front of him/her the directions of
where to go. After we‘ve discussed what we‘re to do during the fieldwork, Nessa volunteered to do the
module which will be discussed in the class.

iii. FieldWork and Workshop Proper

I wasn‘t able to attend the class on the day of the workshop proper. I‘m not sure what really
happened but looking at the materials that we used during our fieldwork, I can say that they we‘re able to
finish them all successfully.

iv. Comments on other activities in class

The games and other activities became very useful in forming a bond within the class which can
also be observed outside class hours. The shortness of the summer class didn‘t become a hindrance for us
to know each other very well like really good friends. For me, it‘s like we‘re just playing every time we meet
up in class, that‘s why if not for all, most of us would love to spend more time together.
v. Comments on classmates

If not the best, I would say that this class is one of the best that I‘ve been with during my stay here
in the university. I am truly grateful that I they accepted me for this class and so I was able to have this
unique experience.

vi. Highlights of LTS2

The highlight of LTS 2, I would say, is the whole LTS 2 summer class 2013 itself. I cannot point a
particular event because for me a day of the summer class is just as important as the others.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

Before the class started, I think almost all of us expected that we‘re about to learn how to teach little
children academically, but I realized that it‘s more than that. I learned the importance of teamwork, not just
within a small group but for the whole class, to finish the tasks and meet up with the objectives. Secondly, I
would say that I became a better person. I managed to remember what Mam Des always say to the class,
―never judge anyone without putting yourself into their shoes‖.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

As always, my shyness shines brighter every time I meet with unfamiliar people and I prefer to stay
put and not say a word if I can during class hours. But as the days went on, I learned that it would do me no
good if I would keep my mouth shut for the whole summer so the games during class and the entertainment
portion when the class gets ―bored‖ made me mingle with others without shyness and talk a little bit more,
but not like Reina I guess.

ix. Field work proper

I came in late, about thirty minutes beyond call time. I, together with King and Munchkin, was
assigned to go and meet up with the participants and I thought I got there ready for what‘s about to happen.
We waited and waited for them for more than an hour and Munchkin was already having a bad temper since
he has nothing to do while King is sleeping like a stone and me, luckily, I brought my PSP with me. We
ended up having just five of the supposedly sixteen participants. I thought what happened during that
morning was a bad sign for the outcome of the whole activity. But luckily, it did not mirror the outcome of our
fieldwork. We finished the activity with smiles on our faces and on the participants as well. Who would not be
happy after eating such a delicious meal prepared by the Finance Committee, including the special dip from
Juan Luna. Also, we‘re able to finish all the tasks, the games and lecture, successfully and with no one
getting hurt during the amazing race. Sadly, it also became the last meeting for our class and some of us
were surprised that we‘re about to say goodbye to each other. It‘s a very heartwarming moment at the end of
the day when we spoke of what our experiences had been during the past four weeks and I would say that I
am one of those who do not want this summer class to end soon.

x. Committee work

Our committee was assigned to accomplish the schedule for whole day. We talked about the
sequencing of the events. On the next meeting, Allison came up with the draft of the schedule. The
assignment of the tasks to our members was done also during the finalization of the fieldwork schedule and
we‘re able to accomplish those tasks successfully during the fieldwork proper.

i. Team Building Activity

I was mortified at thought of having a team building activity. It reminded me of games that I thought
I grew old off. I was predicting sweat and physical movements that I didn‘t really look forward to. But I know
we had to do it so better get through with it as soon as possible so I was sad when it was postponed. I was
dressed up for it and I really didn‘t like wearing pants so I was sad at the thought of wearing pants again.
The team building activity, no matter how right my other predictions were, was fun. We played
games that lightened the atmosphere and just loosened us up. It prepared our minds for the things that we
would have to do.
Learning that we were performing the 7Cs absent-mindedly, it was easier to understand.

ii. Module Writing

After deciding that we were going to hold an activity for the SK in Batong Malake – finally letting go
of the pregnancy brochure that was the original plan – we divided ourselves into teams that would handle
the different activities. After the initial planning, we were asked to make a module. We didn‘t really know
what the module was supposed to look like and so we just placed the things we think would be needed.
It took us a week and n number of revisions before we were good to go. But really, it isn‘t really
hard, you just have to be very particular about your activity and you should really consider all the different
ways your activity could go.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

The Collective Leadership team, my team, was given the honour of demonstrating how we would
go about our activity and honestly, it scared me. I didn‘t want to do a demo of something I am not completely
comfortable with. I‘ll give you the gist of our activity.
Our game, which until now remains nameless (Sorry!), will have a group of people determining how
to touch a number of their body parts to a relatively small board. We did it with newspaper during the demo
and that just didn‘t work. Needless to say, there were problems in the game part of the activity. Everyone
was just laughing and how can you not when there are a bunch of people, also known as our classmates
who lost a game, contorting their bodies to meet the requirements of the game.
The scary part however, is what comes after the game; the discussion input. We had to elicit the
concept of collective leadership from the participants and even though we mentally prepared for that part of
the activity, it was just weird and hard. Also, it did not help that our classmates already know what we are
talking about.
The demo helped a lot, however. Everyone paid attention during the debriefing right after and took
in as much suggestions as was given.
The other part of the workshop consisted of material and visual aid making. It was so funny
because there was hardly anything needed to do and the small number of things to do can‘t be done by 25
people all at once so a lot of people were not doing anything, and by that I mean laughing away and nagging
at anyone they see is doing something, if they could help.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

A meeting would never end without at least one game to play. These games became a very normal
part of our LTS2 lives that I cannot imagine how it would be if we didn‘t have them. Games allowed us to be
close to our classmates physically. It helped get rid of inhibitions and wariness. It may seem like we are a
bunch of grade school-ers but we had fun and we learned and I believe that‘s what‘s important.

v. Comments on Classmates

We are a class of UPLB students from different colleges and degree programs and yet the way we
interact with each other proves that these labels are not important. Never before have I wanted to go to class
just to see my classmates enjoy and be silly.
There is a different kind of bond that was formed in the month that we spent together. We may
have smaller groups within ourselves but this only makes the bond of the whole class stronger. Everybody
knows everybody and even though it may seem that there are a bunch of crazy people laughing the summer
away in that room in the basement, we still perform our responsibilities to the utmost of our capabilities.

vi. Highlights of LTS2

The most outstanding moments of LTS2 are the instances wherein there was a camera! Those two
to three hours we spent on a photo shoot was very funny and memorable. Who would‘ve thought that we
were a bunch of camera-loving people? It was a sight to see the way bonds were formed through the lenses
of a camera.
Moving on, the moments that will be greatly missed are the ―talents‖ and the lucky people who are
to perform when they lose a game or when they‘re late. And this happens, oh I don‘t know, EVERYDAY! I go
to class for this, because I know that you can always find something to smile about in LTS2
.
vii. Most Important Lessons Learned in LTS2
What undeniably is the most important lesson I learned in LTS 2 are the 7Cs. Communication, clear
and common goal, collective leadership, collaborative climate and cooperation, culture of concern,
competence, and commitment. These concepts guided us in each and every activity that we took on.
Personally, I greatly appreciated having a deeper understanding of these concepts and knowing
that these words when put side by side, can make not only a team, but a family.

viii. Problems Encountered and Solutions/Recommendations

Like everyone else, our LTS life wasn‘t all smiles and laughter. We were faced with a big challenge
right at the beginning when we were deciding what we were going to do for the summer. We enrolled in LTS
with the purpose of teaching children and yet we were told that we were going to do pregnancy
brochures/pamphlets. I was excited at first, I looked forward to doing the brochures but when the gravity of
the situation was laid out to us and I found out just how complicated the project we were going to be a part of
was, I was disheartened. I still feel guilty though, for leaving aside that seemingly hopeless project. And so,
the class waited until we had an audience to teach.
And so came the SK, through the work of our instructor, Ma‘am Des. We asked them if they were
willing to help and what they needed. Thus, was the birth of our team building activity/ lecture on drugs.
I would personally recommend early planning for the summer activity and really focus on on-hand
literacy training. I still feel the need to teach more than we were able to this summer.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

The day of the fieldwork came and for some reason I couldn‘t sleep the night before, and so I woke
up at 5am on the 5th of May with only two hours of sleep. I was excited and at the same time unsure. What if
something went wrong? And low and behold, there were only five participants and they were two hours late.
It was certainly an experience troubleshooting this activity. Never before had I experienced
troubleshooting a problem so merrily. Yes, we were panicking but our faces still had smiles on them. We
would push through with this activity no matter what.
All in all, it was a great day. Even the weather agreed with us. We had fun with the participants and
even though it was kind of irritating that they were late, I couldn‘t help but cheer them on as they went
through the different activities we prepared. Even though we weren‘t able to get to know them on a deeper
level, there is a sweet feeling when you see them smile and have fun during the whole activity.
x. Committee Work

After knowing the activities that we were going to hold, we divided ourselves into different
committees; logistics, program, finance, and documentation. I was included in the documentation committee.
You might see our task as simple. We had to take pictures of the different events that took place
and how I wish it stops there. But of course, it doesn‘t. We were tasked to compile these journal entries for
the final report and I bet we are going to have one hell of a writing session once all of these entries are in.
Our work is no joke.
It does have its perks though. You get to read all the journal entries of these awesome people and
know them more. One month is just to short for all the joyful mayhem we experienced.

i. Team Building Activity:

Last semester, I swear I dread the day that another team building would take place because I was
greatly injured on the last team building activity I have been through, so the LTS2 Team Building Activity at
first, was a struggle for me and honestly I did not want to participate.

But, fate always has its funny ways working because this activity turned out to be one of the most
fun and enjoyable part of the whole LTS. Why? Because it opened up so many doors such as friendship and
camaraderie among members of the class and the 7Cs which was very helpful in writing modules and
working within groups.

I took NSTP1 a year ago so I have forgotten some of the concepts and this activity aided a lot for
me in remembering important concepts in the course.

ii. Module Writing

Since I was not really a part of any committee, I did not really experience how it is to write a
module. But I think, looking at my classmates each and every time they make these modules, it‘s really not
the easiest task in the course. Writing in particular can be stressful and may require a lot of efforts but I
commend my classmates because they were able to write these modules well. And while they do that, I was
always on one corner of the room, observing them and ready to cheer them on.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Being a member of the Documentation committee, our tasks were mostly focused towards the end
of the course—writing the journal for the whole LTS2. So during these workshops, we meet very briefly and
then just help with the other committees.

But I really, really had a lot of fun during this period, bickering with Reina and chit chatting with my
other classmates who, like me had nothing to do at times.
I would also like to commend each and every member of the class for their hardwork in each
workshop session, especially the committee heads. I could see genuine passion in what they are doing. They
work so hard and put their full efforts into it, I could also see that they love what they are doing and that is
what is very important to produce the best outputs.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

There were four ―other‖ activities that I remember we do in class, and these are:

 Powertrip Sessions as what Ma‘am Des calls it wherein a random person in class who is either
late or lost a game in class would sing or do anything to entertain the class when we are ―bored‖.
Though, it became partly a waste of time because some of our classmates were so shy to
perform and took looooong moments to convince them to, it also was a great source of
entertainment (which caused me and Reina to unleash our ―wild‖sides HAHAHA) and bonding
time for the whole class.
 The icebreaker games in the beginning or middle of the class helped develop camaraderie
among us and allowed us to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of the classmates better.
 The first aid training which I would admit was boring. But also gave way to show how active LTS2
class was because we were mostly the leaders and volunteers in the activities done in this
session.
 And lastly the photoshoot, i had a loooooot of fun shooting my classmates. The camera just loves
them all, and it shows their vain and quirky sides.

I really enjoyed the LTS2 experience. Everyday, I always look forward to going to class because I
know each session would be different and enjoyable. This is probably one of my favorite class in my whole
stay in UP. 

v. Comments on classmates

` In just 30 days, or even less I have already been attached to my classmates. And when this course
ends, I would definitely—terribly miss them. Just like in the team building activity yes, we may be different
bags. But we fit perfectly together just like the tower. Classmates, I would really miss you. I know, God had a
great plan because He brought each and every one of us together. Days I spent with you were one of the
craziestm funniest I had in my whole college life. I look forward to the day that we will all be in one room and it
will be filled with our laughters, sarcasms, and just random things which made our summer rock! 

i. Team Building activity

My hopes of having enjoyable and memorable summer started to rise when the team building
activity was done in our LTS 2 class. Before it, I expected that there would only be a few enjoyable moments
in the first days and that serious works will fill the following classes. But as we had the team building, the
insights that come with every game made me know that all the things we would learn will be beneficial in all
the days that will come for the LTS class. The 7 Cs we later learned made us give more importance in
having works cooperatively and teamwork is really encouraged for all the activities that will follow.
My mind was set to have the goal of the class be approached as a team. I really am a shy person who
prefers to have a task be done individually, but as I experienced again this kind of activity that makes a good
team out of a group of people, I clearly understood how a certain goal would be reached efficiently.

ii. Module Writing

I was assigned to be in the drug team which is the other major division of the class aside from the
team building group. It didn‘t matter to me where I would belong thinking that any of them would be just fine.
We were given the task of organizing and providing the lessons about drugs that are essential for the field
work that we were preparing for. An online group work was needed to be done by us later that day. While we
were having a group chat intended for the plan of the work and the output, I felt the same way as I was with
them personally in the classroom discussing what needs to be done and how our output would be made. My
part, along with the others, was to provide the discussion of the significant aspect of the topic with the
company of the other members who really did well for me. Tasks were given to all of us in the team and
since every member‘s part was done, the assigned work was done and all ended up well.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Every committee had their preparations or finalizations for the things they needed to take care of.
On the day designated for the fieldwork workshop, the puzzle that is needed for the field work was given
attention, along with a few final touches on the tasks necessary. The others didn‘t have much more to do
since they already did what they could and had what they need for their committee.
These are what we did as what was advised by our faculty-in-charge Ma‘am Destiny who reached us by
calling over the phone, for she couldn‘t come early to guide us since a list of participants for the field work
was needed to be gotten that day. The Logistics Committee, which I belong to, was the one that stayed for
the accomplishing of the puzzle pieces. I enjoyed the stay although there was only little help that I could
give.

iv. Comments on other activities does in class

Every game contributed to making every module-related activity be done with teamwork, since the
games themselves made every group and the whole class to become a cooperative team for every task
assigned. With this in mind, I consider every activity done in class as continuations of the team building that
was done before in a different point of view.
The power trips initiated mainly by Ma‘am Des complete every session of LTS class. It was really
fun to witness every performance that gives a good laugh, although I once had to do one, but it really felt
nice. Having all those fun times, I later realized that they even develop and improve personality. With all the
tasks, activities, trips, games, and even just knowing that a day will again be filled with a joyful bond with the
class, I‘ve always looked forward to being in every session of LTS.

v. Comments on Classmates

I enjoyed every laugh trip with my classmates and of course I appreciate every effort of each of
them for the goal of the LTS class especially the committee heads. I value it being with other persons who
have different personalities, for this factor really make a complete group that can never be out of fun.
If there is a negative thought or comment that I could think of about any of my classmates, I‘m sure
that I could just laugh at that idea because I love being with them all. Before I enrolled in LTS, I expected a
boring class, but I ended up with good friends. All the moments I shared with them will remind me that I once
had a good summer time that I never expected.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

The main highlight of LTS 2 is the last activity done on the last day of LTS 2 which is the field work
proper. It was the one that we have been preparing for. The team building that was done for the participants
is the one I consider the most important part of the activity since it is where they would learn the lesson that
is very important to know as one continues his/her life with the other persons.
I also see the team building and all the games that we had as a good highlight, since it is where it
all started for the whole class. It made us know each other and recognize what role would best fit us and the
others. Without those, the experience would not be complete.
vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

The most important lesson that I learned is being able to know and understand every single
member of a group. The fact that we are different from each other means that there are roles and positions
that is right for us to be working on perfectly in relation to the others in the same group. It doesn‘t give a
discrimination or something like it, but it gives the awareness of where a person can best perform, which
makes the goal easier to achieve efficiently.
Also, being able to cope up with circumstances that come as a team is very important. It is a lesson
each one needs to work of having improved continuously since this is what also fills a life of an individual

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

At first there were only plans on finding persons to be taught, which means there have been no
clear path of where LTS may go to. Fortunately, there have been a good course of field work with SKs as the
participants that became the final destination of the class. The field work has been the one that is being
prepared for in the classes. And we have been expecting to have the same number of participants as the
number of the students in the class. Later came that there can only be 16 who could come and what‘s really
unexpected is that there was only 5 participants in the actual day of the field work.
But at least, a solution was given that is to have other students from the LTS class to also
participate in every game that was prepared, just so the purpose of the field work still be accomplished. We
also had to shift the time frame that is planned since it started late. In the end, things still went fine.

ix. Field Work Proper

On the day of the fieldwork, having different persons to be given a team building activity as we
before have also been given was an experience that was really nice. As we have learned in our activities
before, the participants also learned lessons. What makes it good is that we, who this time conducted and
facilitated the activities for them as guided by Ma‘am Des, deeply learned more than what we did when we
were the ones that are having the activities.
I enjoyed seeing every one of us prepare for the stations, the lecture hall, and the tasks that we will
be doing. I loved the food.
x. Committee Work

I am a member of the Logistics committee and working with them was meaningful. The works that
we had to do made us feel the committee we were in. The materials needed by the others and the tasks in
the fieldwork was enjoyable and there was really effort done especially by the head of our committee.
Our head did a good job in making every member of the group do their task where fun was never
out. All the meetings we had was a bonding time for the Logistics committee while having done what we
were supposed to complete. Like what the others feel about being in their committees, I am grateful to be
with the group I belonged to. I appreciate the moments being with the other members and I enjoyed working
with them.

i. Team Building activity

Unfortunately I missed my team building activity with my classmates in LTS2 because I fell asleep
and I really felt terrible because I was really looking forward to it. I even planned which pants to wear just in
case I get to crawl and get my clothes dirty. Luckily (though I‘m not sure if it was lucky), the SK participants
in our one big event didn‘t show. So we (Marco, Aby and I) were forced to participate in the team building
activity instead. We were with 4 other people who I can say are good people because they stick to their
commitments unlike the other 12 participatants who didn‘t show up.

The first station that we went through is the Competence stage, I can say that the puzzle stage was
very difficult and undermined my thinking capabilities when the other team beat us in figuring the puzzle. So
we gave our best effort during the next games. But we did something very bad, we cheated on the first
station. But I didn‘t feel that bad because during the games it was so much fun that I forgot about winning. It
was all about learning and having fun.

ii. Module Writing

It took us a while to finish the modules. Ma‘am Des was very meticulous on the details. At first we
talked about what we want to discuss in the seminar. There were problems regarding the given topic which
was about teenage pregnancy. We agreed that it was vague and very broad. Most of us expected that we
are going to teach children but since it is summer, children are on their vacations. I can say that Ma‘am Des
wanted to meet our expectations so she went out of her way to find people who we can impart knowledge.
Finally, she found SK people who agreed to attend the seminar and they suggested the topic on drugs. So
we focused on topics on drugs and drafted ideas which would be suitable for the seminar. As for the team
building activities, we planned on games that are short, enjoyable and enlightening.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Creating materials for the seminar were easy because we were divided into committees with
assigned task. We were able to finish it in two days. We also practiced on how we are going to execute our
respective activities. The collective leadership team tried their games which was I-don‘t- know-the –name- of
the game. We tried to assess if the game follows the time limit and if how are we going to discuss the
concept behind the game.
iv. Comments on other activities in class

Activities on class were fun considering that we have games every day combined with Ma‘am Des
power trips, it is hard to fall asleep in LTS 2 class which is saying much because I easily get sleepy.

v. Comments on classmates

It wouldn‘t be a fun experience without my amaaazing classmates. We bonded easily because we


were very enthusiastic on joining the games and fulfilling Ma‘am Des wishes which includes someone
singing  I don‘t accuse Ma‘am of anything since her ways and methods made us closer. I can say we were
all participative and help each other out which is rare to find on a class. Though there were few problems
regarding my other classmates, it didn‘t stop us from having fun and to bond closer.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

I can say that the best thing in our class is we try to our best to cooperate and have fun at the same
time. We were open to ideas which made the seminar a success even without the participants. I won‘t forget
the team building activity, seminar, workshops, meetings and super amazing food prepared by the finance
committee.

vii. Most important lesson learned in LTS 2

I have learned to value the ideas, opinions, skills of other people and use it as a means for better
communication. I have learned the 7C‘s (Collective leadership, Commitment, Competence…) and apply
them to real life situations. It is also important to know a song by heart just in case you get punished for
being late and needs to sing in front of the class.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions recommended

Most problems occurred during the fieldwork. First of all. Only 5 participants showed up and we
were 12 participants short. What we did was to ―encourage‖ fellow LTS 2 classmates to join the activities.
The fortunate classmates include me, Marco and Aby. Second, there problems in finding the topic to be
discussed during the lecture, the SK representative suggested that we tackle on drugs since it is one of the
problems they encounter on their barangay. The third problem was within the class because there seems to
be a misunderstanding between the DRUG members but they settled it within themselves and all was
forgiven.

ix. Fieldwork proper

Fieldwork was very challenging because we did not anticipate that most of the participants would
ditch the event. Though 5 participants showed up, we were able to pull it off by doubling our efforts. The
good thing is that I was able to eat more tacos and buffalo wings. Me, Marco and Aby along with Math
represents the HELLO team while the 4 other participants represents the other team. Both teams underwent
the team building activity and were able to accomplish every task. Lecture followed in the afternoon where
the DRUG team discussed about drugs and drug abuse. It was ended by a very short ceremony by handing
out HELLO‘s wafer bar to the participants. The class had their final meeting in which we share our feelings
and ideas. It was very emotional but in the end we went home very contented and happy.

x. Committee work

I am a member of the Program Committee which Allison headed, we are to handle the flow of the
program and overlook the activities. I say we did a great job! :D I was assigned to do the ID tags while the
other members were assigned to patrol the activities, make the certificates and other things. All labors were
divided but I can Allison did more work than the rest of us.
CARIAGA, Tabitha Jules

As a girl who has always loved the city, it came as a surprise to my parents that I was thinking of
taking up summer classes. Especially since I was only planning on taking up chill courses, like PE2 or
NSTP, those without actual units to affect my GWA (as if I still care much about it, at this point in my life –
which I honestly don‘t). I just wanted a summer away from everything, so I would be able to clear my head,
and possibly, rethink my life choices from the past semesters. You see, I wasn‘t exactly being the best
student version of myself, nor was I being a good daughter to amazing parents in my ―age of exploration‖
stage in my life. Thankfully, my parents agreed and on a lovely Saturday morning, as my sisters from The
UPLB Com Arts Society ready themselves to go to the beach; I was left in LB, in search for units to register
for this summer.

i. Team-building Activity:

I was not a part of the team-building activity because that was the day I overslept and didn‘t want to
risk being asked to sing in class. In my mind‘s twisted ways, this was a sane decision to make: Missing class
> Singing in class. Even if that means my sleeping time would be counted as two absences. I didn‘t mind. I
was not going to sing. (Spoiler alert: I regretted this, but that‘s another story.)

This team-building thing was one of the first group activities in LTS 2. From Day 1, my classmates
have already shown how different their abilities and personalities are, and I was actually waiting for one of
those to happen so I could get to know them better. I have always been the kind of person who likes getting
to know the different yet natural quirks of people and how my classmates act so differently from each other,
somehow amuse me.

7C‘s – Communication, Commitment, Competence, Clear and Common Goal, Culture of Concern,
Collective Leadership and Cooperation; I may have missed this lesson being incorporated in the series of
games they had to perform in class during that particular day, but I think that during the duration of LTS 2,
Ma‘am Destiny never fails to bring this up in every single activity, no matter how simple. I guess this is why I
somehow regretted my absence but I don‘t think I missed much lesson-wise.

ii. Module Writing

I remember being dragged into the drugs team as we were playing a game of ‗one knot, two knots‘.
It was funny how the class works together to target a certain person to be taya in the game. I was the last
addition to the group as the six people who were already part of the drugs team think of what kind of skills
may be beneficial to the group. They‘ve decided on script-writing, and gave me a funny look. I didn‘t really
mind, and since I know what was going to happen, I cut the game short and volunteered myself instead.
Until today, I think it was a good choice, because my group mates were really funny and active during
meetings – whether in class or online. It‘s as if they don‘t ever run out of energy.

Another thing I found interesting was that, the mix of people in the group seemed to balance each
other out. During the brainstorming part of our meetings, everyone was just sharing sudden bursts of
muddled up ideas and thoughts, which made the discussion quite enjoyable. From the idea of snorting
mikmik and baby powder instead of the actual drugs to painting faces to look like drug addicts, I (despite
being unable to stop laughing) may say we had a productive afternoon.

The module was created online, as we divide the tasks from the ADIDS- ORID framework. I took up
LTS 1 when I was fresh out of high school and very new to the university. I don‘t remember much from the
lessons there, but the refresher hand-outs from my classmates, really helped. Following ADIDS, oddly gave
our group direction and it was really nice to finish the module on time. (Well, sort of.)

On the day I was compiling their parts in the module, (this is quite irrelevant, but to add details to
my sub-story of singing in class…) some people sent in their drafts a bit late and still being the version of me
who does not want to sing in class, told my group mates that if I am counted as late, they have to sing
instead of me, and my friend, Julio actually agreed. We weren‘t late on that day though, and no penalties
were given, which was good. I remember thanking the universe and my lucky stars that day. 

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Being a person that has since Day 1, been trained by my organizations to be the master of the
finance committee, I chose to be in the Finance Committee. Not really thinking of being the head, but being
seatmates with your friends could make you somehow ―volunteer‖ for tasks you didn‘t even want to do in the
first place. We even volunteered Allison to be the Program Committee Head. I‘d like to think that this was not
just a ―trip‖ to amuse ourselves in class, but since I know Allison and I could do the work well, why not? I
have been into events for years, and being in the finance committee is not easy.

During meetings, we were always laughing because of the funny ideas of a certain classmate of
ours (Hint: It was Julio). I was used to him, so I just keep saying yes, and moving on with the planning.
However, the faces of my classmates were precious, because they seemed a bit confused with what were
considered just jokes and what actual plans were. It was hilarious.
And who says BACA people don‘t learn much from Math? If I know one thing, it is task
management; and that unnecessary haggard-ness is unnecessary! I have always believed in the spirit of
good vibes and living simply. Making tasks, no matter how big, seem simple. Just like in Math, presenting
answers in its simplest form. Our committee was very chill, as we wanted it to be. I didn‘t find the reason to
make tasks seem incredibly stressful. We just enjoyed the tasks that need to be done, and did it to the best
of our ability. Planning food and budgeting materials for 60 people, was not easy. But I think my committee
mates and everyone else in the class can attest to how much we made the task effortless.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I would be lying if I say that I loved playing games in class. I mean, eventually, I saw the point in it,
but during the first few days, I really did not appreciate it. As I‘ve said a couple of times, the only subject I‘m
registered for this summer is LTS 2 and to spend around two hours of my every day just to play games that I
could have easily played without being registered, or that I would forever choose sleep over, was something
I didn‘t understand— at first. Until it dawned on me, that somehow it was a part of the team-building and it
was the main reason of the growing friendship among the class.

The games were simple and if you think about it, inculcated a lot of values: sportsmanship,
sensitivity, the 7 c‘s, and many more. Plus, it made us comfortable with each other, through simple
memories of ―7 Up‖, “Bahay, Baboy, Bagyo‖, ―One Knot, Two Knots‖ and other parlor games. It was a time
for us to be children again, except we have to think deeper now, and make more sense of things.

Overall, I enjoyed the activities, even the times when we were asked to sing in class and do crazy
stuff. I didn‘t realize it, but LTS 2 was exactly the kind of break my heart and mind needed for the summer.

v. Comments on Classmates

Each semester, there will always be a class for me to enjoy fully, partly because of the lessons, but
mostly because of the people I share it with. It was CMSC 2 for me last semester, when I was the only one
taking up BA Communication Arts in a sea of people who major in Computer Science, and were mostly a
year younger than me. Do you know that feeling when you start a class thinking that you only need to know
a single person you could always ask about assignments from, and what you missed when you were
absent? I felt like that in LTS at first. And it was easy for me, because I had around five course mates in the
class, who have already been my classmates in previous Com Arts subjects. But then I started talking and
befriending other people outside my circle of friends and before I knew it, I was hooked. As much as I didn‘t
want to admit it, they were awesome and I liked being in this class.
I have had my doubts about LTS 2, but I was proven wrong by everyone. With a classmate who
makes A++ animal sounds, loud but funny personalities and quiet but fairly naughty ones… a mix of people
you wouldn‘t normally throw inside a room together, weirdly, we jived. I didn‘t expect it, but we got along
really well. Who would have thought that in such a short span of time, twenty-six people of different interests
and personalities could actually be close enough to each other to actually look forward to going to class?
Quite weird, but I‘m not complaining.

It was nice being with them, and from what I‘ve heard in the final evaluation, I think they felt the
same way as me. Like a thief in the night, or love at first sight, no one was expecting it, but it came and we
just embraced it. Normal students would usually be glad a class is over, and I am too, but somehow a part of
me knows that I will miss this quirky bunch. One thing I found remarkable though, was that no ability was
wasted and everyone had the time of their lives creating memories and taking the class activities seriously.

vi. Highlights of LTS2

Attending LTS 2 has been one of the highlights of my every day for a month now, Even though I
wasn‘t excited on getting up from my fluffy pink bed, and breaking off my tight embrace from Stony Tony, my
stuffed turtle, never did a school day go by that I thought to myself, ―Let‘s skip LTS 2‖. Okay, that‘s a total lie.
I thought that for about two to three times in the whole duration of the summer, but I could never push myself
enough to miss an actual class (Except for the time that I overslept. See team building.)

Probably, it was because I knew that missing a class would result to me, missing an opportunity to
get to know my classmates, my instructor and missing out on the memories that we have been creating
together. There were just so many things that happened in LTS 2 that I genuinely enjoyed with the help of
my classmates and friends. Here is the list of the top five things that made me learn to love LTS 2. (Most of
them might seem irrelevant to other people, but whatever):

1. I would never forget that game that required four coins to be passed around among our
classmates as we sing that terribly catchy song “I want to be a tutubi na walang tinatagong
bato sa aking kamay…” I was laughing so hard when I realized that almost all four coins were
in Julio‘s hands because he found it such a hassle to pass them on.
2. Reina and Char‘s bickering of love. Every day, these friends keep teasing each other, and they
may be a bit loud and less tolerable on days I don‘t feel like my best self— when I haven‘t had
much sleep (despite the fact that our class is in the afternoon), but they were really cute and
amusing. They were witty and friendly, and even though DevCom and ComArts have always,
always, always been thought of as rival courses, they were really nice and the difference
among the approach of the two colleges really showed. Where did that gossip about being
rivals even start anyway? I‘m pretty sure it was from someone who didn‘t understand how
different the two college programs are. Regardless, I was happy that stereotypes were
eliminated and everyone just got along in great harmony.
3. Being desperate enough to pass the paper on time that I went to Ma‘am Destiny‘s house just to
give her the module on drugs. For a person who wants to earn a living from writing a variety of
things, I have never been good with deadlines. With a fast-paced mind full of ideas, I almost
never know where to start, and usually, even I can‘t keep up. I was just really happy that I was
finally, doing something to somehow meet deadlines.
4. The fieldwork proper. A lot had happened, but mostly the food, the air conditioning, the happy
people that surrounded me despite my terrible lack of sleep just so I could wake up early and
meet the call time and the five guest contributed a lot to how much I was able to enjoy this day.
(See ix. Fieldwork Proper).
5. And lastly, dinner dates, movie marathons and sleepovers with my classmates. It was sad that
we grew close as the subject was coming to an end, but I really appreciated the invites from
Kim and King to watch movies and bond over whatever we find fun to do. It was a nice way to
get to know them from outside the classroom. Who would have thought that in a short amount
of time, my summer clingy list would grow twice its size?

vii. Most Important Lessons Learned in LTS 2

I‘m going to risk sounding redundant here and repeat my line about chill work, ―Unnecessary
haggard-ness is unnecessary.‖ I have learned so much about myself and my personality in the few days of
summer, especially in our NSTP classes. And I know I was supposed to pick up the lessons on the 7C‘s,
ADIDS and ORID, but if we‘re being totally honest here, I think most of what I have learned in LTS 2 was
about how to interact with people, creating memories and special connections with each passing day. It may
sound cliché, but it‘s not every semester that you get a slot for a class, where you will be given the luxury to
know each one of your classmates, how the think, how they act and how they work.

The UP spirit was established as well in every activity the class was given because no one settled
for mediocrity. Sure, some work could have been done a lot easier, like the CWTS pregnancy brochure
thingy that the class refused to make. Why? Because it was pointless, and not at all related to what we
wanted to achieve in taking up LTS 2. We wanted our final project to matter, to be enjoyable while still
making a difference.

Another thing is adjusting to whichever situation that may arise. We have encountered a lot of
problems in the entire LTS 2 course, but it was good that everyone had a way of being flexible and calm
enough to face the problem with a smile. No one saw it coming, and no one liked it, but the whole class still
did their best to put together a great event for the very limited number of guests that arrived.

Every single day of LTS 2 was about learning to make the most out of every situation. And I know I
started out not wanting to stand out in class, and especially be asked to sing, but at some point, one gets
tired of being in the background, and I must admit, that there was even a time when I already enjoyed
penalties, and games and everything about the entire subject. I always thought NSTP would be a hassle, but
when you look beyond the surface and start appreciating things for what they actually have to offer instead
of the short-comings they have, you‘ll start feeling happy of whatever you‘re doing.

viii. Problems Encountered and Solutions / Recommendations

I usually don‘t like talking or writing about negative things once it has passed, and especially
because we have survived, but maybe for this class, I could make an exception. Or better yet, I could praise
how amazing and gracious the entire class was in responding to unfavorable situations in LTS 2.

The first one was the absence of a fieldwork activity. We were originally asked to make a brochure
for CWTS 2 and the entire class, Ma‘am Destiny included, fought for the field work activity that happened a
few days ago. Secondly, the absences of some classmates that resulted in a delay of the line-up of tasks to
be done, but the members of every group, and every committee knew how to self-negate and fill in the
shortcomings of other people. No work was left undone, and everyone‘s abilities were used to make the
event better. And last, but not the least, was the lack of guests. What good is a kickass event whose
elements are all almost perfect, when the invitations failed to arrive on time? Just like a princess ball, what
makes it all the more glamorous and successful is the presence of people to experience it along with the
event managers. The attendance of the SK‘s, however, was not in our class‘ control, no matter how much
we wished it would be. Maybe, next time the community leaders should not commit to something they
couldn‘t fulfill? Oh well, at least the five people who were there seemed to have enjoyed it. 

ix. Fieldwork Proper

It would not be enough to say that the fieldwork was a success without giving due credit to the
people who worked hard on it. Everyone from our class exerted an effort to show how much they were
looking forward to this event. However, not everything went according plan. Some modules were not used,
the script Julio and I stayed up really late to finish writing was completely disregarded, the food was way too
much for the people in the room, and many more. But despite this, all was well.
From the start, I think everyone knew that no one could actually control the entirety of the event, but
it was okay. It was less than we were expecting, but why dwell on something you couldn‘t do anything about
instead of doing something to make what you do have control over, a bit better?

Another remarkable thing I want to share about the fieldwork was my experience in finding the good
in people. Growing up in Manila, my daddy always told me not to trust strangers, nor speak a word to them.
But during that particular day, when I needed help in carrying food and other materials for the finance
committee, it was as if the universe was smiling upon me, so I smiled back. Countless strangers, not
including the invaluable help of my committee mates, have helped me carry the jugs of water, the big bags
of packed lunch meals to CAS Annex 2, despite vehicles not being able to go into campus. It was heart-
warming to know that there are still people who do random acts of kindness, not asking for anything in
return.

I didn‘t sleep much the night before, so when the day was through, I felt like collapsing into my bed
and recharging my self-batteries of hyperactive good vibes so I could return the blessings I have received
from the universe. It wasn‘t a sad end to the day after all, despite it being our last class for the summer. My
classmates and I had a special bond, and I knew that it was not over. 

x. Committee Work

No words can describe how much fun we had in our committee. I was the Finance Committee
head, and usually, this is a stressful task, but with the four people I had to work with? The workload
lightened and became easy-peasy. I‘m not sure how to feel that our committee always ended up finishing
our work for the day earlier than everyone else. I‘m a bit proud, I think.

K, Julio, Kim and Paul were the most cooperative group mates. I wanted a ―chill‖ committee despite
the weight of our task, and they were able to adjust to it. Our work ethics, no matter how different, worked
out. Julio and I have been friends even before LTS 2, so I was used to his funny comments and suggestions
so I knew how to filter. I realized though after a series of confused looks, that not everyone knew how to
treat his ideas like I do– on which were serious, and which weren‘t. But with time, and some getting used to,
we were able to create a solid plan for the budgeting and the meals to be served, while still being able to
work in a not-so-serious environment. I know that most of the time, we look as if we weren‘t even doing
anything nor discussing anything of importance, but this was just our coping mechanism to actually enjoy
what out committee has to deal with.
In the end, I think our committee did a good job with the food and relating with other committees. It
was also really nice to see my committee mates and other committees having initiative on helping with
serving the food, and making the most out of their time by helping out when they know they are free of tasks
at a certain time.∞

I had no regrets of spending my summer in LB, instead of going out of town, visiting beaches and
other usual summer spots; I was here, painting my nails, being broke, but entirely happy. Taking LTS 2 took
my mind off of the things that usually bother my existence. This summer, I had the time to relax, and be a kid
again through the games we play in class. The simplicity of life here in LB was refreshing. Maybe it was
destiny, the universe conspiring, or something else unknown to me, but I still thank my life compass (that
hasn‘t exactly been reliable in the past few years), because this time, it did not disappoint. It showed me the
way to what I really wanted while still giving me what I needed as well.  

i. Teambuilding Activity

The first time we do the activity on class I‘m really clueless about it. As Ma‘am discuss what we
would do I feel very excited, because I assumed that the activity was fun and our instructor was always lively
and fun to be with since the start. When we were group into three and line up for the activity of the day, I feel
the excitement and fun in each students that is why some important goals of the class discussed by Ma‘am
Destiny at the end of the teambuilding activity was not understand clearly of most students.

To tell it honestly, the activity was really fun, exciting, and enjoyable. But we missed one of the
main goal discussed by our instructor which was ―a punishment will be given if one group will not reach at
least four points in three rounds‖. The goal means a lot, if we left one group with less than the required
points it is the class would be suffer which means everyone will receive a punishment. And this is what we
not fully understand when discussed by Ma‘am Destiny probably because almost all of us were very excited
and aimed to get the desired number points for our group only and not for every groups. This is one of the
great lessons I‘ve learned from our instructor and knowing that it came out from this activity. Thank you very
much to our lively and lovely Ma‘am Destiny Lutero.

ii. Module Writing

My LTS 1 was really long time ago in the year 2009 second semester, and because of that I haven‘t
experienced writing a module. So I let the writing of it to my fellow group member for our assigned activity in
the fieldwork. But before our group member do the writing of our module, we discussed first what should the
things that should appear and see in the module. Module writing helps you a lot in terms of organization and
flow of the activity in order not to miss any important details.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

The preparation period for our big day was fun. Everyone was busy in their assigned works in our
workshop proper. The workshop proper runs smoothly since everyone cooperate and enjoy it even though
its summer. Everyone share their fresh and creative ideas, and also give help to those with different
assigned work after they finish their own work.
iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

The summer in LTS 2 under the supervision of Ma‘am Destiny was really become cool, fun,
exciting, and most of all enjoyable, because of the activities done in class. I never regret to come on class
everyday even its hot because its summer, since at the very first place it is our very own Ma‘am Destiny who
do everything to make our day as amazing as possible through the different activities at the start of the
class.

Everyday, I am always looking forward for the activities or games that Ma‘am Destiny would give to
us for the day. Since in every activities or games we do there is always a consequence for the looser which
always excite me and do my best in the games or activities. This summer in LTS 2 was really an amazing
one for me because the others activities or games done by our instructor in the class add spice in every day
class.

v. Comments on classmates

At first, I never expect the great bonding that we will establish in the class all throughout this
summer class, and I honestly feel amazing and happy with it. This is the first time for me in a small class of
almost 25 that you will have bonding with them all, and eventually will know them very well. I will miss the
people, especially to our very own Reina Masongsong, who always made the class laugh so hard and
enjoyable in everyday class. Even though she sometimes talked something on the limits she will immediately
stop and defend herself in a nice and fun way which would you love and then laugh at.

If someone will ask me the greatest class I ever have in UPLB, I will say in proud and no doubt that
it is my summer class 2013 NSTP 2(LTS) because you know each and everyone in the class and you will
really enjoy the company with them. Everyday with them in our class is very special for me, and it will not
also be special without Ma‘am Destiny. I feel very thankful that I have them as my classmates and instructor
in LTS 2.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

The first highlight of LTS 2 this summer 2013 under Ma‘am Destiny was the fun, exciting, and
enjoyable activities or games always at the start of class. I honestly will say that this is one of the things I am
always looking forward to every class. Next highlight is the bonding that eventually forms to us because of
the activities or games asked by our instructor. My classmates open easily day by day what they really are,
and do not hesitate to join and show up with the rest of the class.

The final highlight of LTS 2 for me this summer 2013 is the fieldwork day even though a problem
went through at the very start of that day. Everyone were assigned with their particular works for the special
day which I prefer enjoyable. I am really excited when day of the fieldwork have come finally and for the best
thing happened in the class.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

There are so many lessons I valued and learned in LTS 2 this summer 2013. First, do not worry to
show up or express who you really are with your classmates while in class because it is another room for
you to improve yourself. Second is that often communication with your classmates even out of class hours,
because it leads to bonding anytime particularly in class.

Last lesson I have learned was to enjoy and always have inspirations everyday even if you
experience hard problems. For me, one should not always think those problems let them be and problem
themselves. Always surround yourself with people so that when you cannot carry your problems anymore
you have friends or anyone to talk too, listen to you, and get an advise.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

First problem we encountered at the start of class is the module for teenage pregnancy, and this
eventually leads to our next problem which is making brochures for the teenage pregnants. We really do not
know how to start, because in the very first place there are no guide for us what to do for the brochures,
what should be included and what is not appropriate to see in the brochures. So we suggest to do an
alternative activity for this summer, because we really cannot start with the first one and if we continue it I
think we cannot finish it on time since the topic is to broad and there are no really guidelines for us. The
alternative activity that our instructor suggested, which is a Fieldwork for the ―Sangguniang Kabatan‖ (SK) of
a certain barangay in Los Baños , was much better for us because we can now practice what we have
learned in LTS 1.

The next unexpected problem we encountered happened in the fieldwork proper. The number of
participants (SK) we expected since they confirm ed to us were almost 20, but at the day of the fieldwork it
went down to only 5 participants so we were really surprised about it. I think the best solution about this
problem is to have an official document that will be send to the participants to sign in. We can send it to their
barangay hall to sign by the SK that officially can come to the fieldwork in order for us to know and prepare
the most.

ix. Fieldwork proper

On the day of the fieldwork we were all excited (as expected) because we really prepared for it with
our effort and time. But like in any other event, there is still problem that will come out, and we do not expect
it will come in the part of the participants. As noted by them, there would be almost 20 participants that will
come and be available in the day of the fieldwork, and to our surprised only 5 particpants were present
during the event.

Even if that is the case, we still continue the fieldwork and everyone have adjust easily and fast to
make the day memorable for everyone especially to the participants.

The module for the teambuilding comprising of 5 different activities were designed to almost 20
participants and not to only 5. But the event must continue that is why the class has made another plan and
adjustments quickly with the help of our instructor. So in the end we all have fun and enjoy the rest of the
fieldwork day because everyone cooperate, always communicate, and help one another to made things
work out.

x. Committee work

The work within our committee (program) runs smoothly, because everyone share their ideas in
order for it to finish as quickly as possible. I will give our committee head Allison Danao two thumbs up for
being active everytime and open minded for any suggestions of our members. So in the end our committee
works turned out good, and well design for the day of the fieldwork.

When doing the committee works, we have fun and create bonding to one another because of our
very lively, active head and always on the go and fun to be with members. There were always laughs and
happy atmosphere everytime we do committee works, but in suggesting ideas they were clear and serious. I
am thankful that I have them as members in doing committee works because I enjoy the works within the
committee.

i. Teambuilding Activity

It was on the second meeting of the summer that the whole class underwent the teambuilding
activity. The class was divided into three teams – G., I., and Joe each consisting of 6-7 students. The first
activity was a simple game of pass the message. Ma‘am Des presented the objectives clearly: first, you
must score higher than the rest of the teams; and then the second was no team must earn a score lower
than 4 points. Failure to follow the second rule would result to grave consequences. The first message was
pretty hard because the message was the second stanza of UP Naming Mahal. We had a hard time
because most of us were unfamiliar with the song so it took about 30 minutes to finish just that round. The
next round was simple, as it was just 6 countries. Then the last one was a message that should be drawn on
the board by the last person. I really thought it was weird when Ma‘am Des was very lenient with the rules
since she allows copying or getting help from other members/teams. By the end of the game, one of the
groups earned a score of 3.5, clearly less than 4. And it was then that Ma‘am Des reiterated the scores. It
was also then that we realized that we should have helped each other out because the objective of the game
required helping each other out. Hence, the first C was showed to us – Clear and Common Goal. In my
opinion, this activity had the greatest impact on me because this was where I really learned to listen and be
mindful of the objectives in a task provided to me. There was also the second C – which was
Communication. This, on the other hand, I have heard so many times before so I was really expecting this to
come in Ma‘am Des‘ input.

The second game was governed by another batch of Cs - Culture of Concern and Cooperation,
Collaborative Climate, and Collective Leadership. This was where we tried to fit our respective teams in just
two armchairs. Having learned the first two Cs, we were very mindful and attentive to the instructions. We
also made our cheers and claps very easy to avoid confusion in the game proper. It was the first time that I
have encountered such game, and I thought it‘s really fun, though a bit dangerous to play. And in the end,
everyone won. When the Cs were enumerated, I was a bit amazed at how many complicated words can be
come up in just a simple game like that. For instance, when a committee was given a certain task, I think the
Culture of Concern is really about being tactful of the feelings of your teammates and treating each one as a
crucial thing for the success of the task. Of course, there has to be a collaborative climate – the free flow of
ideas and the final output as the summation of everyone in the team. Then lastly, I encountered collective
leadership. This C for me is very unfamiliar because in all my years in my organization, we have always
been taught that a great leader only appoints the task and overlooks the output. It is the job of the
subordinates to fulfill those appointed tasks. But when it comes to collective leadership, everyone‘s a leader
– which is something that‘s confusing for me. When is it collective leadership? And when is it cooperation.
But even though it is a little confusing for me, I think I like it better because it is a more democratic approach
than the other one. Everyone gets to experience being a leader from time to time.
The last activity was making a tower out of everything that we have. So everyone stacked their
bags on top of another in order to reach the desired height. It was tricky, because we have bags of different
shapes and sizes; hence, we had to carefully weigh which bag would fit and when we would stack this and
that. When we succeeded making the tower, and answered a couple of questions, the last two Cs were
presented: Commitment and Competence. It turns out, the variety of bags we had were the representations
of our abilities, in other words, competence. We are good at different fields and it was in this activity that we
were taught to use these according to the scenario at present. Sometimes, when we know that other people
are good on certain tasks, we have to make way and let them do their magic. And when a task needs
something of my expertise, I should put myself out there to achieve an excellent output. Lastly, there was
commitment. In my opinion, this was the most important thing. We should know when something is enough.
We didn‘t give up our clothes to make the tower taller because we were fully aware that our bags alone are
enough to fulfill the objective. Thus, we should also be able to gauge how much of ourselves we should
―give‖ to a certain task, because it is very important that we leave something for ourselves.
To think that I have learned so much without compensating fun, it is a very efficient activity. And I
can fully say that the Cs were very much imprinted on our minds by now. I know I have become better if not
good in dealing with a task within a team.

ii. Module Writing

Upon writing our module, everyone was in a hurry, so I volunteered to write the rough draft and
then send it to Kay for some revisions. The last time that I have written a module was way back in 2011,
thus, I had a difficulty formulating its ADIDS. But it was really minor issue because all I had to do was ask
around. The bulk of the work was putting the mechanics into words. By then, I still don‘t know what the name
of the game is, so I chose to leave it blank for the mean time. When I forwarded the module to Kay, the
mechanics and the questions to be asked in the discussions were somehow complete. She was the one who
filled the input and added some questions along the way. Also, during this time, Ate Allison has joined our
group since she was absent when the groupings were made. The revisions after that were done by the rest
of my groupmates. So all in all, it was pretty much a team effort, and it was not that difficult a task because
the game we proposed was very easy to understand.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Our station did not require any tedious workshops because all we needed was the web which can
be done on the field day itself. So we used the time allotted to review our modules and look for some unclear
instructions or loopholes. When we still had some extra time, we wanted to help other teams, but it was
evident that most of the teams were already done. Thus, we wrapped up and prepared for the pictorial, also
scheduled on the same day.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

After the module-writing, one of our Monday classes were allotted for First – Aid training. I liked the
idea because it would be really helpful since we will be dealing with several people involving quite physical
games on our field day. But in my own opinion, it was not that productive because most of our time was
spent on the skits that we performed in front of everyone. By the time we were done with the skits, we only
had about an hour and a half left for the training proper. So they had to rush through the lessons to cover the
intended amount. It was evident that some people in the class were already pretty bored and even sleeping.
One of the things that maybe contributed to this is because the venue was too big for us. It was difficult for
us to see their demonstrations because we were far from them. In addition to that, there were only two
people teaching, which meant that their attention was much diffused. I think it would have been better if the
LST2 and the CWTS2 classes weren‘t merged and the classes were held separately. That way, most if not
all of the students can be seen and taught closely. Moreover, the first part of the lecture which defined
several terms such as disaster, climate, etc., were already taught in NSTP1 (the common module, that is).
So I think it was unnecessary to teach it again. But despite these several factors, I was still able to learn
some stuff from the skits, such as what to do when there‘s a fire, or some procedures on calling for the
emergency hotline. But when it comes to hands-on learning, such as the different types of knots for different
types of injury, I don‘t have any idea. Well, maybe except the ever famous square knot.

When we were not so serious, we played games. It was really helpful because it served as our
icebreaker and relieved us from some negative stress. It was also ingenious for Ma‘am Des to conduct such
games in order to decide the groupings or the assignments of tasks. One example of this was when we
played the one knot/two knot game. By the end of the game, the ―its‖ were assigned to the group which shall
take care of the Drugs seminar. Playing these games revived us from our long-lost childhoods, not to
mention a positive relationship with our classmates.

v. Comments on Classmates

Due to the several games that we played, we pretty much knew each other‘s names by the end of
the first week. Our class was really loud due to several people such as Reina, Char, Jeremy, Kits, and
Nessa. And then the rest of us were just laughing along the semi-harsh-but-still-funny side comments. At the
end of the day, the task at hand was still completed or at least the bulk of the work is, without feeling
burdened because I had fun working with them. But because we were so fond of talking, sometimes some of
us may have had a hard time listening which made it hard for Ma‘am Des to fully communicate. There were
times that we have too much fun that we take too much time deciding on one minor topic. So I think we had
to work on the crowd control. But other than that, it has been nice experiencing LTS2 with these people.

vi. Highlights of LTS2

It is hard to say which the highlights in the course are because every day has been a highlight. But
if I should really enumerate some, maybe one of them is the talent portion. As I have previously mentioned,
we played games at the start of the period and then the ―its‖ would have to sing a stanza of UP Naming
Mahal or any other song of their choice before the period ends. When the number of people saying ―bored‖
are already more than five, the ―its‖ have to perform their song. Thus, in every game, I was very competitive
just so I wouldn‘t be called on the spotlight but at the same time, I prepared my vocal chords just in case. It
was really fun seeing my classmates sing not only in a very sadistic way but also in an excited i-wanna-see-
hear-you-sing vibe. There were some who were really, really good at singing, and then there were some
who were very entertaining. One of the most epic times was when Munchkin brought with him a songbook
as if preparing for a concert. And it was also during this time when he was requested to sing with Abby. They
did, and it cracked the whole class up. Laughing with them like that made me realize that this class shall not
be easily forgotten.

Another highlight was the field day. It was during this day when we finally see the fruits of our semi-
difficult labors. And it was during this day when I saw how professional we are as a team. We experienced
the challenges together and worked it out together. I would like to describe this more, but I am afraid that this
highlight is part of another section entirely.

vii. Most Important Lessons Learned in LTS2

Perhaps the most important lesson I learned in LTS2 was about the 7Cs. It may seem repetitive
because I have already said this earlier, but I really did learn. I have learned to work better within a team.
Moreover, I really want to share what I learned from the activities, so I am suggesting doing these in my
organization.
I also learned to be prepared for the worst. Because of this course, I learned to sing the UP Naming
Mahal so as to prepare myself for some talent portions. That‘s only one of the examples and I may come out
as paranoid, but on the contrary, it shall make me calm for every situation because I have a plan B within
reach. But this way of thinking did not develop within a blink of an eye. I had to slowly develop it throughout
the course, especially on the last day. And even until now, I am still learning to incorporate this way of
thinking in all my tasks.
viii. Problems Encountered and Solutions and Recommendations

One of the not-so-many problems we encountered was about our fieldwork. By the first week of the
course, our tasks were just to make modules for pregnant women. It was a good thing that Ma‘am Des
asked for our opinion regarding the workload. Due to this, the class was able to say the pros and cons about
the brochure-making. Most of my classmates wanted to teach children, but since it is summer, there are no
students willing to be involved. By the end of the period, the net suggestion was to find other students or
activity to do. Ma‘am Des forwarded these concerns in her meeting with the NSTP coordinators. Thus, the
solution was to find some SK officials and conduct the same teambuilding activity and a seminar to them.
For me, this was a very nice solution to our problem because ideally, these SK officials have better reach in
a community. Hence, by presenting to them some solutions to most issues happening within a barangay,
they will have a greater influence than us. Besides, our course has something to do with literacy and not with
brochure-making, so it was to our greatest advantage.

Another problem happened on the fieldwork proper when out of the 16 expected participants, five of
them only showed up. This was a major blow on us because everything was prepared for at most three
teams. The program flow was messed up because the participants arrived much later than expected; 60
servings of lunch were ordered for them; and the rotations in the race were not followed. Before the
participants arrived, the class brainstormed for a possible solution. And the solution was this: students from
the class who were absent during the teambuilding activity and some of the people with no heavy task were
merged to form a team against the SK team. So Marco, Mikka, Abby, along with one of the SK members,
Math comprised Hello Team, while the other team consisted of the other four SK officials. Slight adjustments
were made, such as the third puzzle disregarded and the venue of some stations transferred to a more
convenient location. The race ended earlier than expected so at least there were no more extensions and
we were back on track. The only disadvantage that I observed was the groupings. I think it would have been
better if the members coming from the LTS2 class were distributed evenly among the SK members. Due to
this uneven distribution, it had provided the hello team an advantage because they know most of the games
and the Cs incorporated in each one. Moreover, Math, which was the only SK member out of the Hello team
was overpowered and maybe a little out of place in the group. But other than that, at least we have made a
solution to that big of a problem and we were able to stabilize the situation.

Another problem, as I have later on heard, was that the lecture that Kits presented was lacking or
incomplete in some parts. As someone who is not a part of the Drugs Team, I actually did not observe that
there were lacking parts. Good thing some members of the said team were able to act on it and they
conducted an additional lecture to supplement the first one. My only recommendation was that the lecture
slide should have been counter-checked the day before so that by the time it is presented the lecture can
push through smoothly.

The third problem I encountered was in my station when the web became a little bit loose. It would
have been easy to repair if the scissors and the tie box were with us, but it was nowhere to be found
because it was borrowed by another station before the race started. They were also preoccupied with the
Hello team so we just took the scissors and made use of a small length of tie box hanging out from one of
the knots. Luckily, it happened when the Hello team left so their time was not affected at all. The web was
again agitated upon the crossing of the first player of the SK team. This time, we just manually held the
strings tighter because there was no need to repair it when they are the last team we are going to entertain
in our station.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

I was absent on the last meeting before the fieldwork so I actually had no idea if there were
changes in the plans or there were some final announcements. But I was fully aware of my tasks because
we were repeatedly reminded about it. Just to make sure, I checked for some announcements in the
facebook group and I familiarized myself with the flow of the activity. According to the program flow,
assembly time was from 7-7:30 am. By 7:15 I was one of the first few people to arrive. When I arrived,
everyone was calm, as if it was just a normal school day. Well, except for some committee heads like
Allison, who was working on the printing of the program flow so that each station has a copy. By 8 am, my
station-mates were already there so we decided to work on the web rather than wait for everyone to arrive.
The preparation was fast since there were four of us helping out. Moreover, my teammates were really
critical on the making of the web; taking in to consideration the number of people in a team, the average size
of a person, the feasibility of each passage on the web. We even tested some of the holes just to be sure. 15
minutes later, we were already rechecking the knots and reviewing our module. At the same time, Ma‘am
Des arrived and also checked our station. After which, she instructed us to go to MPH2 where we will all wait
for the participants.
All of the preparations were already done, so what was left to do was wait for the participants.
Ma‘am Des forgot her cellphone so she left us and instructed us to start immediately even without her. So
while waiting, we helped ourselves with some siopao and iced tea. There were a lot of siopao so we ended
up eating two or three pieces as long as there is enough for the participants.
To cure ourselves from boredom, some of us were talking about the latest episodes of this and that;
some brought their laptops and hard drives, so they shared or copied movies from each other; some of us
wanted to make use of the projector, so we decided to watch movies. Kim connected her phone to the Mac
and we went directly towards the scariest parts. After some time, we watched Lion King. When we were into
the first 15 minutes of the film, Ma‘am Des arrived. We gathered around for a final meeting and it was then
that she told us that out of the 16 expected participants only five of them arrived on the meeting place.
Most of us were furious, while some just shrugged. The biggest question was: how are we
supposed to push through the teambuilding activity? I for one wanted the amazing race to be cancelled, and
instead, the teambuilding conducted indoors. Others suggested that too. But Ma‘am Des never wanted to
resort to that because she does not want our efforts to just be wasted. So in the end, we agreed to let some
of our classmates who were absent in the teambuilding activity in the class to comprise another team. And
since we were already behind schedule, it was decided that the participants will be immediately sent to the
first station without the opening program.
When the participants arrived, they were entertained by Jeremy, while the rest of us assume our
positions. Thus, the five of us – JC, Kay, Munchkin, Allison, and I went to our station located on the left side
of the Oblation Park. While waiting for the participants, most members of the Hello team were already
practicing on our obstacle. I do not hold any grudge against them, but I think it was unfair because they
already have an idea on how to cross our web. However, I am also at fault here because even though I
know what they were doing was unfair, I did not really tell them to stop.
My task in the station was to time each team‘s game since I am part of the logistics committee. I
was also in charge on the presentation of the mechanics so I was a bit overwhelmed on my task. I
underestimated my task and should have let others take the mechanics part. Nevertheless, I was still able to
orient the players about the rules. The first team we encountered was the Hello team. They were already
familiar of the rules so there was very little need to orient them of the rules. They were already done in about
50 seconds, but due to some touches to the web, their time resulted to about one minute 20 seconds. I think
the players were so fired up to win the race that they forgot there was still the discussion and input part. So
we let them leave since Jeremy told us that the discussion would be done as a whole, or after they finished
everything. When they left, we repaired the loose parts of the web. It was a long time before the next team
arrived so when the Hello team was done with another station, we called them over for the discussion and
input part. It was challenging when it came to these parts knowing that we are going to discuss these parts
to our classmates. We took turns asking them questions that should lead us to the input. And then Kay took
care of the last part, while some of us added a thing or two. A few minutes later the SK team arrived.
When the enumeration of the rules was done, they immediately snapped into action. It was a little
hard to incorporate the Collaborative Climate and Cooperation with them (both teams actually) because they
just crossed the holes by themselves. It was only after we reiterated that they can help each other out that
they got the idea. Hence, the game started. The first player jumped through the largest hole in the web,
disaligning our web in the process. We were worried because she might have scratched or bruised herself in
the process. It turns out she was not harmed at all, so we were all relieved. We manually held the knots
tighter until the end so that the game could push through. The discussion and input, unlike the first team,
was conducted right after the game. Since I think I already done enough, I let the others take part in the
discussion and input. When it was done, we immediately played with our web and then disposed it.
The last station was to be held on the park so we decided to stay there and wait on the benches. It
was a bit cloudy and windy by then but we still stayed there. It was when the Facis were summoning the
teams over when the drizzle started. So we opted to conduct the game indoors instead. Everyone went to
CASA2. Specifically, it was on the long hallway were they decided to hold the game. Since there were
already too many people clogging the narrow hallway, I decided to leave the game and just go upstairs, in
the lecture hall. I joined the few people staying inside and rested for a while. After a few minutes, people
were already entering the lecture hall. Most of us were hungry from the activity, so we helped ourselves with
another round of siopao or iced tea or both. Of course, we fed the participants too. So by 11:30 we were
done with the teambuilding.
After a short snack, Ma‘am Des decided that it was time for lunch. So, technically, we had lunch
twice. The lunch was this superb meal of buffalo chicken and rice. I was amazed later on when I discovered
that the meal only costs 25php. Anyway, we enjoyed the lunch while watching The Lion King. Ma‘am Des left
us for a while to take care of the evaluation sheets so she made Allison in charge. She instructed that by
12:30 we should already be clearing up the area and arranging the chairs so that by 12:45 we can already
start with the seminar. Thus, by 12:30 we arranged and cleaned. By 12:45 we reluctantly started the
seminar.
Kits was the lecturer while Allison was the one behind the computer in charge of the powerpoint.
There was not much information found on the slides but it was supplemented by Kits‘ talking. However, there
were times when he tends to reach other topics that were supposedly not covered by the lecture. Sometimes
others would say that he was off-topic. Others would just ask questions that will cause him to go back on
track. There are also times when we are not sure if what he is saying is really true. For instance, he claimed
that Rico Yan‘s death was caused by drugs. It was really damaging to persons who had a crush on him,
such as I. But seriously, it would have been appropriate to state that if only he had presented some
references. I do not know what Kits was supposed to present, but I think his presentation was lacking on
information judging how some members of the Drugs team conducted another lecture. At least all of these
things were already voiced out in the debriefing and settled.
Next was the awarding ceremony and all I could say is that it would have been better if the
certificates were awarded right then and there because by not doing so, it looked as if the activity was not
official or not approved by the university. Still, it cannot be help because that was the situation. So all‘s well
that ends well.

x. Committee Work
I am part of the Logistics Committee. We were in charge of everything physical such as the
arrangements, workshops, visual aids, etc. Before the field work, there was not much to do except collect
the list of materials needed from the modules, canvass, and buying of the said materials. Our committee
leader, Nessa took was very hands on when it came to the tasks. So when it came to these things, she
volunteered to do it herself. Sometimes, such as the buying of materials, she asked for our help, but due to
conflict with my other class, I was not able to accompany them during the acquisition of materials. But I tried
my best to be present in all the meetings and contribute as much ideas as I can to compensate for it.
Another task that our committee did was on the making of the puzzle. Since Ma‘am Des was not there due
to a meeting with the SKs, we were left to our own devices to help out in the making of the puzzle.
Supposedly, everyone should help in the brainstorming and making of the puzzle. But in the end, it was the
logistics committee who took care of the job. In this task, it was King, Munchkin, and JC who sketched while
Nessa took care of the coloring. The rest of us were simply there for moral support and contribution of ideas.
Before the field day, two members of our committee were assigned for each station to time the games and to
guide the teams to the next stations. We were assigned in the stations where we are already part of so that
we could also help in managing the teams. Hence, I was assigned on the fourth station, along with JC. My
task was to record the time elapsed for each team.
Aside from the assigned tasks, all we did on the fieldwork proper was arrange the chairs and clean
the perimeter because there was not much crowd to start with. But still we still made ourselves useful by
helping out the FinComm distribute the meals. The same goes after the activity – we cleaned and arranged
the chairs. In the end, I think there were so many of us in the committee. But then again, this can be due to
the fact that there were only a few SK members in the activity. Besides, it would not have been that fun if we
were not that many.
CONSTANTINO, Kristel Rae M.

i. Teambuilding activity

Teambuilding aids to promote and develop acquaintances and teamwork, as well as to bring out
the best among individuals. With this, we had a teambuilding activity which is good for almost three hours.
The activity covers three games such as pass the message, chair game and tower making. The class was
also divided into three teams namely team G, team I and team Joe. Moreover, one of the general mechanics
of the game was that the three teams should have attained at least four points so we will not receive a class
punishment. Unfortunately, our team which is team G did not reach the four points. It is because we had a
hard time during the first round of pass the message game. And the consequence was five students should
sing ―UP Naming Mahal‖.

But in spite of those things, the over-all activity was indeed good and fun; I think we also reached
the activity goals. And most importantly was that we were taught and abled to inculcate the seven important
Cs of the teambuilding such as competence, communication, clear and common goal, collective leadership,
cooperation, culture of concern, and collaborative climate.

ii. Module writing

Module writing was done for us to have plan and ideas on what to do and expect during fieldwork.
Since our group is part of the teambuilding group, what we just made on the module was the ADI parts of
ADIDS. Our activity in our station is crossing of web made out of the straw lace or tie box. And we had
named the game as ―Through Thick and Thin‖. Moreover, in this game, all members should pass the web
one at a time and as fast as they can. Players should cross the web without touching it; otherwise, additional
twenty seconds for the team. Also, when members are able to cross the web, they can assist the crossing of
the others. For the discussion part, we will just ask questions that can lead to the assigned teambuilding Cs
to our group which are cooperation, culture of concern and collaborative climate. Lastly, for the input part,
we will further define and discuss the said three Cs.

Since module writing was the first activity of our group, this is where the camaraderie started which
is essential in a group. Moreover, we also learned how to divide labor effectively and efficiently from here.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper


Our group, under the teambuilding part of fieldwork, did not perform the workshop. It is because the
materials we need to prepare can be executed during the fieldwork proper and no further preparations are
needed due to the materials needed are only two poles and straw lace or tie box. Instead, we just met our
co-members in the group, and divided the tasks for the fieldwork.

Then, for our committee, we did not also perform the workshop instead we just met and plan for the
things to do on the fieldwork. We also settled the amount of money needed as well as the foods and drinks.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

Over-all, the activities done in the class are good and really cool. Games are still present like in the
LTS 1, and they are mostly performed every meeting. Furthermore, since it is summer, the allotted time is
short, the activities per day are done effectively that what is indicated in the calendar is really followed.

But the most part that I do not like is the punishment that we can obtain if we came late in the class
or lost in the game. We are obliged to perform whatever talents we have. Yet its objective behind is for us to
get out of our shells. And since I do not want to perform in the class, I always see to it that I will win and save
in the games.

v. Comments on classmates

I commend my classmates. Almost all of them are really great that they always do their parts
whether it just a game, discussion or major activity. If they were compelled to perform any talents they had,
they will just perform. They are also competitive especially in the games. They also have the initiative to do
things as well as always extending their hands to participate and contribute to the activities. Additionally,
they are easy to get along with and we have established company and closeness to one another.

In regards to the fieldwork proper, some of my classmates got annoyed due to the circumstances
that took place. But in spite of those things, they maintain their professionalism as well as their open-
mindedness, and remain pro-active.
vi. Highlights of LTS 2

Literacy Training Service 2 or LTS 2 aims to build knowledge and skills of teaching literacy and
numeracy of students to the school children and to the other segment of the society that needs help. It has
also an activity-based framework that engages fun and easy yet learning experience to the learners.

With the said things above, LTS 2 does not fail to meet its objectives. Also, its highlights are well
uphold and improved. Even if LTS 2 has been offered and done this summer which is in short period of time
and no available school children to be taught, we were still given a chance to do a fieldwork. Moreover,
games and activities were still held.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

There are so many things that I learned here in LTS 2 which I can really say that help me to define
and mold as an individual. First, I developed my communication skills as well as my social skills through
games, activities, discussions and group works. Also, the other stuffs that were done in the class boost my
confidence and help me to go and do out of my comfort zones.

But the most crucial thing that I learned is the seven Cs for teambuilding. These things are needed
because they serve as the foundation of the group, of our class; without them, we cannot get through LTS 2
specifically its activities.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/ recommendations

The first problem encountered was the brochure making. LTS 2 this summer is under CAS which has a
project for teenage pregnancy, so we tend to make materials for CWTS class who conferred on the said
project. Most of my classmates did not want to make brochures due to inadequate module, unavailability of
participants and ineffectiveness of brochure as a material for the teenage pregnancy. With that, the
resolution was to devise a new plan and project which addresses one of the major problems in Brgy. Batong
Malake, the illegal drugs. Also, I just hope that there will have a defined and feasible framework and module
for the over-all class fieldwork even though the time frame is summer.

Then, we had also encountered problem in the fieldwork proper. Only five participants came. This
resulted to the annoyance of some of my classmates. Also, the resources and activities were not fully
utilized. Moreover, there was some miscommunication and misunderstanding in the drugs group about the
preparation and lecture for the afternoon session. Although those things happened, we let the activity went
on and just enjoyed it instead. Also, we made sure that we executed our tasks well and met the activity
goals. In the end, what is important is the whole fieldwork proper, not the number of participants or whatever
conditions that aroused among individuals. And fallback plan was indeed needed.

ix. Fieldwork proper

We started the fieldwork almost nine in the morning. It was late because we waited the participants
to come by. And there were only five participants present. We did not have the national anthem and opening
remarks, instead we skipped to briefing and teambuilding proper. We had only formed two groups which
were both composed of five members; four members from them come from our class. The activity for the
morning session was done pretty good. All goals were met, and we were able to teach the lessons behind
the activities per stations. And the morning session was ended by serving of lunch to the participants and to
the class.

Then, for the afternoon period, it was started by a lecture on illegal drugs. There, one of my
classmates discussed about the definition, kinds and effects of drugs. It was followed by a lecture too for the
input and deepening of the said topic. Then, it is preceded by a game to serve as a synthesis and to test
whether the participants gain knowledge and insights. Afterwards, the snacks were served. And it was
ended by a closing or awarding ceremony.

x. Committee work

At the beginning, I really wanted to be part of finance committee because I taught our tasks will be
just not too heavy, that we only need to prepare food and drinks as well as to collect money needed by the
class. This expectation does not fail me. We just remained relaxed but at the same time we became a little
pressured, for we should not fail the expectation of the class about our foods and we should serve them not
only delicious foods but also satiated foods.

In regards to the fieldwork proper, almost all our tasks were accomplished. I think the participants
as well as the class did not starve since there were lots of excess foods. Also, they really loved the dip that
we had.
DANAO, Allison A.

i. Teambuilding activity

The feeling of camaraderie is always developed in teambuilding activities. I can say that if there is a
common goal, the members are directed to the path were we meet achievement and success. This is very
evident during the first teambuilding activity that the class had, the making of a tower using only the things
we brought to class. Everyone seemed so enthusiastic in creating the tower tall enough to meet the
requirement and sturdy enough not to fall down. Of course, there stood leaders who facilitated our actions to
maintain order while completing the task. There is a sense of fulfillment when one task is executed properly
through a group. I, personally, feel stronger and more capable if I am with a group.

Other teambuilding activities include simulations of the games proposed for the fieldwork proper,
which the class heartily played. I observed and discovered that through these activities, the barriers to
communication and interpersonal relations greatly diminish, and that we are more comfortable with each
other compared to the first day of classes.

ii. Module writing

The brainstorming for games which would uphold the values our station were assigned with was
relatively easy because we had prior experiences in conducting teambuilding activities. Because I was
absent during the groupings, my groupmates already devised a game we are all familiar with: it was the
cobweb game famous during our highschool years. I revised the module that our group passed as
consolation for my absence during the making of the first draft of the module. I could say that module writing
is the easiest part on the process of preparation for the fieldwork proper because everybody's efforts were a
great contribution to the desired output. Editing the draft was relatively easy for me because the proposed
changes were pointed out already and somehow I feel thankful to all my groupmates for giving me a part
that I could work with.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Delegating tasks as a committee head is a hard thing for me because personally, I'd rather work
alone and do everything I could do to finish the tasks already. Also, I was afraid that my members would not
want to claim tasks and I hate to force them to do something they don't want; which could lead to having
misunderstandings in the group. Fortunately, my members were really participative. During this LTS course,
I managed to make use of my committee in accomplishing tasks as a group. It was a very fulfilling thing to
do, having to give shares of work to each and everyone effectively - while maintaining the good relationship
with them.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I enjoyed most the games that we played during class as well as the intermission and talent
numbers which were induced by 'bored' comments confessed by the majority. Certainly, these activities
made the 'childlike-side' of us be seen, and enjoy teasing and be teased. If not for this, there would not be
private inside jokes that only the class shares and understands; and therefore, there would not be the same
level of comfortability with each other in class as how we feel with each other now. I consider these perks of
having a summer class very helpful in coping with the lone atmosphere that a should be summer vacation
gives; and thus made me enjoy taking summer classes.

v. Comments on classmates

My classmates are really fun to be with. We got along easily because we saw the same amount of
weirdness amongst each other which we are willing to tolerate and accept in our company. Juan Luna
particularly was the Madhatter in class, I cannot seem to draw the thin line that separates 'weird' from 'witty'
when it comes to his remarks. He's just the personification of dissidence. Moreover, Reina, who is the
Queen Bee of the class provided enough sarcasm to an otherwise too-good-to-be true atmosphere of the
group. All of us in class have different personalities, and it would be too problematic if we came on clashing
with each other, fortunately, we are sensitive and mature enough to handle everyone's case.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

I believe the highlights of this course include the leadership training I had, the camaraderie and
bonding that was fostered by the class, and the inculcation of selfless service in our mindset. Personally, as
of now, when LTS 2 is mentioned, what comes into mind is my experience of being a program head and
how I was able to execute myself and my duties. I can say that as far as I realized, I have improved
compared to the way I handle responsibility before I entered this class. Also, the bonding that our class had
was the most interesting part of this course. I met new friends and treated each one as closer compared to
some random companion or colleague. Moreover, the efforts we had done for the fieldwork despite not being
payed for, or despite the problem in attendance that we encountered during the fieldwork proper, inculcated
in me the value of selfless service and sacrifice. That even though our efforts had not been generously
reciprocated, we still continued and strived to finish what we have started to accomplish the goal of servicing
to fellow youth.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS2

I learned from this course that group development is a collaborative effort and not a lone
responsibility of the leader. As a class, we helped each other in accomplishing our goals which were evident
in our teambuilding activities. I learned that leadership is not a one-way process, it is a mutual benefit for the
two parties: that is the leader influences and helps the group; and the members/rest of the group teach the
leader also. Attitude and character, more than ability, is vital in maintaing group coherence and good
relationship among the group/class. I realized that it is not so much important as how achiever you are than
how you deal with or treat your classmates. Also, I learned to respect each other's opinions and ideas and
value them as much as I value mine. That sometimes I am wrong and that I should stand corrected; and
learn to learn. More importantly, I learned that service, even though unreturned, should be given good-
naturedly and wholly. I learned to believe that there isn't such thing as partial service when it comes to clean
intentions. There is the fullness, and nothing but genuine service if in your heart, it feels unconditional. I felt
that during the fieldwork and I believe it is going to leave a lasting mark on me.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/ recommendations

Problems in the class include miscommunication of people; that is sometimes tasks are unclear
because a member does not know her/his part. This was solved readily by talking and reaching out
personally to each member/classmate and clearing out misunderstandings. Absence of a classmate on a
particular day also posed a problem in information dissemination. This is solved, anyhow, when the
absentee asks his/her other classmates what had happened when he was gone. I, actually, incurred
absences and it was hard for me to follow on the discussions on the succeeding days. Communication also
to the instructor is very vital in the coping up with class activities. I was completely dumbfounded when they
elected me as the program committee head when in the first place I did not know where the committees
came from and what is the nature of my work. Asking other classmates helped me understood the things I
missed. Lastly, the very prominent problem which we encountered is the unforeseen and unanticipated low
attendance of our SK participants in the fieldwork proper. We focused more on inside/internal issues; that is
those that are in our control and if fails, will be held against our unpreparedness. But those of the external
things, like the probability of low attendance or having no participants at all, we failed to include in our
planning. Anyhow, it was remedied by limiting the number of participants to those who could make it and
time permits. Recommended action for future fieldwork would include an over-all planning on fieldwork,
including those of internal and external.
ix. Fieldwork proper

The original plan for the fieldwork did not turn out exactly as how it was layed out but technically
most programs don't actually. Time alloted for each activity wasn't followed and there had been an awful lot
of opportunity cost. The participants delayed the program because of their late arrival and minimum number.
One good thing is that our class was flexible enough to handle such unforeseen and unexpected situations,
and still carry out the program well.

Honestly, that day turned out to be fun because of the class's decision not to get pessimistic and
all. We still opted to enjoy ourselves and make the best out of each and everyone's presence, including
those of the participants. We even held extra-curricular activities like watching movies at the lecture hall and
singing with some music. The day ended with an open criticism and evaluation of each and everyone; and of
course photo-taking for memories and well, vanity.

x. committee work

As a committee head, accomplishing tasks and collating all the information for the making of the
program was not easy. Anyhow, delegating tasks to members helped in clearing out things and minimizing
work load. At first I was completely disoriented on how to come up with an initial program but fortunately, my
members helped me in drafting, providing me with opinions and suggestions for the proposal. As more
things are discussed and layed-out, the more tasks present themselves and the more we identify possible
loopholes that we could encounter. I could say that when it comes to the committee's output, I am very much
proud to say that they all did a great job and that we were efficient enough to execute.
DEL VALLE, Princess Eunice

i. Team Building Activity

It surprised me. Or maybe, I wasn‘t really expecting that we‘re going to have to do the ‗team-
building activity‘ so early. I didn‘t even know it was a team-building activity at first until Ma‘am Des explained
so. I was chilling and thinking that the games were fun though it‘s awkward to begin with.

The thing however, is that I enjoyed. Coming from a person who‘s not fond in any activities
including trying to save my face from punishments (I am actually not a very sporty creature so there‘s a fat
chance that I‘ll lose every time besides my lungs are weak so that makes me a very poor teammate also), I
think that‘s a compliment.

The 7 Cs are introduced and I very much enjoyed discussing them (though I haven‘t animatedly
participated). And though my team failed to reach the goal, I‘ve realized that it has become a first lesson to
learn in group activities. Besides it has become a way for us to get pass the first barrier of awkwardness. I
came to know most of my group mates name and basically had a little chat with them. I enjoyed it while in
the midst of scheming on how to get another subject for this summer. Haha. And besides, it‘s always nice to
meet and work with different people.

ii. Module Writing

It wasn‘t a problem meeting with my group mates in the class. The tricky part is the brainstorming. It
was a whirlwind of ideas wanting to be written down and executed. All the ideas in my opinion had their
strengths and weaknesses. It was hard to choose at first so we have to carefully weigh each idea and select
the best to fit with the objectives of our goal.

Our group was assigned under Communication and Clear and Common Goal. So being a
Communication Arts student, I was already thinking how to incorporate communication well in the activity
with the ‗clear and common goal‘ idea tailing behind. It was good that we (Nessa, Kuya Jez, Marvie and me)
were able to select the activity that we think is most apt and complements our objectives.

So after the brainstorming part and preparation for the materials to be sued in the activity, Nessa
volunteered to do the written module. After polishing some areas in the module, we are already off to make it
possible. It took a lot of my brain cells to function in this activity but it was a good experience and a good
chance to know my group mates more.
iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

That day it rained hard. It didn‘t help that I was so hungry and my previous class almost made me
claw my own face as it was too technical to bear (and after NSTP I have to attend a make-up class on the
same subject). So anyway, what happened was Ma‘am Des was kind of stuck in traffic and she has to go
somewhere to fix the list of the participants in our fieldwork.
Most of the groups were done with their modules and there are little left to do. So, each group were
given enough time to polish and prepare for the fieldwork as the logistics team worked on the puzzle that are
needed on the fieldwork (later on we realized that it‘s for the whole class to make, so it was kind of sad that
we haven‘t been able to offer some help).

When most of the class are just lazing around, I decided to ask if we can go out already. My
stomach is protesting so I asked if we can leave. Good thing that my classmates are considerate (they didn‘t
demand us to stay and help with the making of the puzzle; it made me guilty for asking to leave early
though) and they let us go. I wasn‘t sure what happened afterwards but I heard that they stayed late to finish
the puzzle. I commend those people who really worked for it.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I can only remember most of it but not all. I enjoyed all the games we had and the punishments
(talent performance) my classmates did because they were able to share something from themselves that
they normally wouldn‘t share to an ordinary classmate.

In every activity, I liked the continuous emphasis on the 7Cs and ADIDS. Every activity, there is
always a reminder that what we‘re doing is not just for fun. We‘re doing it because it is for some cause – to
improve ourselves, develop team camaraderie and unity and to be aware of societal and literacy concerns –
and it is very insightful.

Though the previous plans on brochure for teen pregnancy were abandoned, we came up with an
alternative solution than can provide fieldwork experience to every student of LTS2. And that was worth all
the efforts in listening, attentiveness and focus of every student. Yes, it was; though it was a very mammoth
task for most of the class.
v. Comments on Classmates

It is like we are a bunch of different-flavoured gummy bears put into a container. Or like a spectrum
of colours attached to a pot of gold. (Gummy bears are awesome and so is a rainbow). We are all different
and yet we are bound in a place with a common goal – to pass NSTP 2 (practically, but maybe there‘s more,
so who knows).

At first, I was only getting along with my friends who happened to be in the same class. It was
awkward to talk to my other classmates because we we‘re still strangers. I didn‘t know what to expect. I
couldn‘t just throw a comment and expect to gain a reply from it. It was really awkward.

But I got the hang of it. I got used to seeing them every day that I look forward to attending the
class daily. I enjoyed even the small banters, side comments and the group activities that I was not fond of
at first during the class. As I get to know these people more, I find myself relaxing in their company and
enjoying a small chat or two.

And though there are personalities that clash, there are people to balance it and make the
atmosphere light. I‘m going to miss this people, in the next semester, I am sure.

vi. Highlights on LTS 2

The fieldwork proper and the module writing, I guess. They were like major exams which cover the
things we learned in LTS1 and 2 and how are we going to apply it. On the other hand, it was a fun
experience especially with great food and great friends to share the work with you- plus the banters and chit-
chats in between.

Another highlight would perhaps the games and the team-building activity that we had. It allowed us
to become flexible with the different personalities of our classmates and create a bond with them. Everyone
was competitive in a good way. It was interesting group to be a part of.

vii. Most Important Lessons Learned from LTS 2

A variety makes an interesting mix. I learned that a group works well when there‘s the willingness to
help and to take part in it. I realized that in order to have better results, you, yourself should be productive
first and aware of the concerns of the group. Also, things don‘t always go the way they are planned– so
everyone should always be ready for a contingency plan.
On the other hand, as an individual, I realized that it‘s not that bad to lose your inhibitions with
people who are willing to see you lose it. Hahaha. Kidding aside, I think LTS 2 made me more carefree,
empathetic and considerate.

Aside from the mentioned, I think that beyond the walls of LTS 2 classroom, 7Cs and ADIDS are
important in self and group evaluations. ADIDS, I think is not only for teaching a subject. It can also be used
in other ways such as in pep talks, seminars or lectures.

viii. Problems Encountered and Solution/Recommendations

One of the biggest problems encountered is the lack of contingency plan during the course of
fieldwork. There are only five (the first news was only three) participants and everyone was stressed. There
are disappointments and frustration along the ways and on the last minute, we were still thinking of ways
how to troubleshoot the situation. It was a good thing that Ma‘am Des had suggested of an alternative for the
occurring problem which requires modification on the team building activity in the morning.

The activity also started out late and the three students who were supposed to meet up with the
participants have to wait for an hour or so to pick them up. I guess beforehand, the class should come up
with the official list of the confirmed participants so expectations about who will attend will be met. A
contingency plan should also be prepared so people would not panic when things go out of our control.

Miscommunications and lack of organization has also been a problem but it was resolved later on I
think.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

Let see, what can I say? The food is great! The finance committee did really well in budgeting the
money. I also have to commend the program and logistics committee for preparing and doing their jobs well
in the fieldwork itself.

The day was physically exhausting but emotionally overwhelming as a lot of things had happened. It
was beyond my comprehension how I was still hyphed up even after the activity was over. We had to
troubleshoot an unforeseen predicament and work on our committees and stations well. I have to now
commend everyone for being able to finish the activity with happy grins and still have the energy for a candid
shot after the tiring fieldwork. It was a happy experience. I enjoyed the aircon a lot as well as the food. It was
overwhelming.

x. Committee Work

After the fieldwork, it is the start of real work for us documentation team. And though I enjoyed taking
pictures and assisting my classmates during the fieldwork proper, the last straw of my working energy will be
devoted into preparing the final output (report) for the class.

I am confident that we will beat the deadline, simply because I‘m optimistic like that. But really, I‘m
pretty sure that we can finish the work on the date set for us so long as everyone submitted their entries. I
am already crossing my fingers and hoping that we‘re going to be able to do it with a bang. Go docu team!

i. Teambuilding Activity

Games are viewed by the many as a certain ―past time‖ or rather a means to gratify one‘s self from
their need of recreation. For some games however, the case may be to not only satisfy a person‘s need for
leisure but to also give its client a ―slice of life‖ with the infusion of a moral lesson within the game‘s story
line. Our instructor, Ma‘am Destiny S. Lutero, used games as a platform to discuss topics under what we
may call ―Team Building‖. She was also able to point out the ―7 c‘s of Team Building‖, with each ―C‖
corresponding to one game. It was both a smart and refreshing way to convey a matter such as this, which
made us students receptive to the concepts behind each category of team building.

With this, there was no room left for questioning. If we were also to teach people (more or less of
the same age as us) about how to build a team effectively, then we would have to go with the same method
as to how we were taught. Not only did it help us as a class to decide on ideas easily, it also let our creative
minds breathe effortlessly. With a backbone structure of using games as a way to inculcate lessons, we
already had an idea of how things would flow when the day of execution of tasks came.

During the day of our fieldwork however, I was part of the financial committee. This meant that we
as members of that committee were to secure the food and condiments that would be served throughout the
day. From that we could procure that we were not able to participate in any of the team building activities
which I‘m sure was loads of fun. Nonetheless I enjoyed myself by taking a nap in the fully air-conditioned
room.

ii. Module Writing

Executed actions must have come first from careful planning. Afterwards, various thoughts and
ideas would be compiled, and later processed into a formal written output. In our class, that written output is
called a module. Writing the module though was a different story. I would mostly have to thank Tabitha
Jules Cariaga for writing the whole module. Well, I guess I‘m thanking her for typing it. It‘s hard enough to
organize ideas of different people and try to achieve unison, but to also type it in a formal format is a pain.
For that I express my gratitude that I did not experience such a task.
iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Being a member of the financial committee is a blessing in disguise. Not only do we get to enjoy the
fact that we have money(even though it‘s not ours for the taking) but also planning for what meals would we
eat during the day of the fieldwork.

Being a communication arts student doesn‘t mean that we suck in math. I do know how to count, so
rather than my course being a hindrance to counting money, it proved to be a bridge to the parallel gap of
words and numbers.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I guess I would like to comment mostly on the games we play during the beginning of the class.
That must have somewhat assisted us in the development of our relationship with each other as friends.
Other than that, the frequent singing of people who were late in class was something that I would both hate
and enjoy.

vii. Most Important Lessons Learned in LTS2

Learning comes hand in hand with experience. I could say that I have learned a lot from this
subject, not only from the instructor but also from my classmates. Learning is also fun when experiences are
shared with other people, where an atmosphere of camaraderie is breathed in and out. Thanks to everyone,
I had developed the mentality that says ―I should attend classes‖.

viii.Problems Encountered and Solutions/Recommendations

To be honest, I feel as if the problem did not lie in the subject itself or in the people within the
premises of the subject. Rather, I take responsibility for the problems that I have caused. The issue of me
being late all the time would somehow affect how people view me in general. As I am writing this paper, I am
yet again late, 40 minutes to be exact, with regards to the deadline of submitting this paper. It could well be a
direct descendant of my root problem that my paper is yet again is late.

Also, I might have set a negative image of myself to everyone within LTS 2.

But do know this; I am the most serious person you could ever talk to. This has been who I am
since the very beginning of time. I have come to the decision that I would take things seriously. If somebody
asks me a question, I would answer them in my most serious manner. I find it unhealthy to crack jokes or kid
around even as a child. It doesn‘t make sense as an adult either. That is why I am the most serious person
you could ever talk to.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

It seemed to appear like any other day. Walking up 30 or so minutes after the call time was of no
surprise to me. What changed my normal cycle of what I would call a day was the fact that 5 of the 16
expected SK children appeared. To be honest though, I never set my own expectations as to how many
children would be present. The fact that all of us prepared for this event and the endless effort everyone put
in it however is what gave me the feeling of ―irritation‖ or the urge to put those kids in a rice sac and make
them a piñata.

Luckily, having an instructor with immense talent and the capacity to keep calm amidst such
strenuous situations, made us shed our gloomy cocoons of sadness. Afterwards, bit by bit it grew on me,
that having only five participants let us spread or wings of hope. It was easier to breathe in the air-
conditioned room with less people, and less people also meant more food for everyone. The supposed direct
proportion of one of us in the class to one of the SK children would also prove to be exhausting if it were to
push through. The fact that there were only five of them made things stress-free.

Overall, the day couldn‘t have been better. Everyone had a good time, as well as the participants.
Seeing smiles over and leaving that room with no regrets and carrying with us a sense of accomplishment
painted a bright sunny sky. The friendship that we shared though was the best part, as it was the rainbow of
that sunny sky.

x. Committee Work

I love the committee that I have been assigned to. Counting money and feeding people is like owning your
own branch of a Mcdonald‘s franchise. I felt as if Taby was the manager, I was Ronald Mcdonald, K was
McBirdie, Paul was Grimmace, and Kim was Hamburglar. It was more fun than I could imagine.

i. Team Building Activity

The seven C‘s: Communication, Clear and common goal, Competence, Collaborative climate,
Culture of concern, Commitment and Collective leadership. These are the lessons learned by our class
during the team building activity.

The team building was facilitated by the bubbly, Ms. Destiny Lutero. The first activity was ―Pass the
Message.‖ We were divided into three groups and were also given three instructions, one of which we failed
to comply to, and that is every group should get a score higher than 4 points else the whole class gets a
punishment.

The point of the game was to help us realize the importance of effective communication among
group members to achieve a common goal and the value of culture of concern in team plays. Through the
discussion of the troubles that we encountered during the game only we did realize its point.

The second game required every group to suggest three actions that they consider easy, average
and difficult. The game also required each member of every group to pick a number from 1 to 6. For every
round, the facilitator called different set of numbers (ex: 1,3, and 5) to perform the task that she chose from
each group‘s suggestion.

This game taught us the importance of collective leadership. Each member shared their ideas to
get the best out of the mess the game is. 

The last activity was creating a pyramid from the things that we have. The facilitator instructed us to
use everything we have, which we did not do. Each person gave their bags but we kept our phones, laptop
and other things that might probably break if put in the pyramid. Somehow, this game taught us that
competence is very important in group works. Stories of a single person doing everything in a group project
are nothing new to us. This game made us realize that a person should only give what he can.

ii. Module Writing

This probably was hardest phase of the LTS 2, for me at least. Since I am a memberof the Drugs
Committee, our module was more complicated than the other groups‘. For some reason, our committee
wasn‘t able to do the module in class and we had to do it online. I never thought Facebook could save my
life.
Using the ADIDS framework, we divided the work among our members. We had a hard time as
we had to start from scratch because we did not get to see the first draft and the deadline of the final draft
was set the next day. It was practically a group cram.

The Input was the hardest part because it was the longest and it was literally the content of the
lecture on the field work. Initially, Robin was supposed to be the only bone to work on the Input but it turned
out that he can‘t do it alone. Thus, Abby and I helped him do the research. We divided the topics among the
three of us. Pressured or stressed, I‘m not sure, but for some reason I just copied and pasted everything
from the Wikipedia. I was almost done with my part of the job when I realized what I was doing. I messaged
Tabi. ―Tabi, will get into trouble if my source was the wiki?‖ Her answer was brief and concise, ―Yes.‖

It was like somebody poured ice-cold water on me, all traces of sleepiness gone. I had to do
everything again. Fortunately, Google loves me. 

It was a very great experience for me. Working late with everyone in our group online while my
dorm mates were having fun eating the pizza and ice cream I bought, as it was also my birthday that day. It
was probably the most productive time I‘ve spent on Facebook. Almost everyone in our group has large and
dark eye bags the next day, but it was worth it.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

The collective leadership committee was probably the most if not the only busy team this day.
Being a member of the Documentation committee, I have a different task from the others. Thus, along with
the other committees, we busied ourselves in the photo shoot for our personal profiles instead.

Being one of the photographers, I really enjoyed the photo shoot. Everyone was smiling and
pulling crazy antics in front of the camera, Julio and Kim specially. They also helped in choosing the themes
and concepts of the shoot.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

Everyday in LTS 2 was fun. I was never fond of ice breakers and mini games but in LTS 2, it
seems like they were vital parts of our class. Before, I would avoid a game as much as I can; now, I‘m
already one of those people who ask for games when the class discussion gets too serious.
If there are two types of students, the bully and the bullied, I most probably am the bully.
However, in this class, everybody get their share of bullying and getting bullied. All the activities were fun
and made everyone look forward to the next meeting.

v. Comments on Classmates

LTS 2 is probably the only class aside from my majors where I am literally friends with
everybody. In the span of one month, I get to know most of my classmates and learned a lot from them.

In this diverse class of LTS 2, I realized how cruel to progress stereotypes can be. Stereotypes
had put ComArts and Devcom, though very different in discipline, in opposite sides. In this class, I got the
chance to work with Alli, Allison, Cess and Tabi who were all ComArts students and they were all awesome.
I had learned a lot of things from working with them and I believe that rather than competing, we all
complimented each other‘s skills and created good outputs.

Nessa strike me as someone who was a born leader. Rather than dominating, she really is
leading the class. More than that, she got a perky attitude which spreads the good vibes in the class.

Kits was probably the one who‘s at the receiving end of my bullying tendencies most of the time. I
am not purposely being mean to him, it‘s just that among our classmates, I thought he was the one who
could match my sense humor, and he did. He is one of those people who leave a mark in other people‘s life.
I just hope that in the future, he would be more open to his group mates and ask for help when his burden is
already too heavy to carry.

Everyone in this class was so awesome, so awesome that the only words left in my vocabulary
now are awesome and amazing.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

The highlight of LTS 2 for me is when our class decided to do a lecture on drugs with the SK
councilors of Batong Malaki instead of just doing educational materials on pregnancy that can be used by
the CWTS in their fieldwork.

It was that time when I realized that here in UP, the students also do have academic freedom; that
we have a choice and our opinions matter. I would probably forget the ADIDS and ORID framework that
Ma‘am Desss taught us, but I would never forget that she fought for us and helped us all the way to make
our Field work happen.
vii. Most Important Lesson Learned in LTS 2.

I was never a team player, until LTS 2. I have a dominant personality and perhaps that lead to
some people mistaking it as leadership. I have always believed that I am the type of person who do better
individually rather than when in a group. In LTS 2, I learned that learning how to be a part of group is big
factor in a person‘s personal and professional growth.

I learned from my experiences here in LTS 2 that there are more to people than what they let you
see, that sometimes just because a group mate doesn‘t ask for help it doesn‘t necessarily mean that he
doesn‘t need it. A person who is a member of a group should also learn the initiative to extend a helping
hand to other group mates regardless of them asking for it first or not.

viii. Problems Encountered and Solutions

The first problem we encountered was the project on pregnancy given to LTS. The class was
unanimously against it and wants to do a field work instead of just producing materials. This was solved with
Ma‘am Dess‘ efforts in finding our class possible participants

The next problems that we encountered were all minor problems and just within our group. We had a
slightly hard time during the module writing because Kits volunteered to do the first draft but didn‘t show up
on the day it was due. Somehow, with the help of internet and at the cost of a one night sleep, our group
managed to pull it off.

Until the day of the Fieldwork. After waiting for almost two hours, we decided that 15 of the 20
participants who committed to coming to our lecture were probably abducted by the aliens because only 5
people showed up. How did we overcome this? We pushed through with the plan. Moved the programs two
hours and proceeded as if we were the happiest souls on Earth.

Then there was the lecture on the day of the field work. Kits was the lecturer and he was also the
one tasked to do the lecture slides. For some personal reasons, he wasn‘t able to prepare properly. During
his lecture, most of our classmates also noticed that he seems not prepared to do the lecture. He missed
some of the important topics that were necessary for us to execute the games that King prepared. After Kits
finished the lecture, we decided to do a short follow up just to touch the topics he missed and there were not
really that much so everything ended well.

ix. Fieldwork Proper.


I almost lost my temper an hour after I get there at the venue. Majority of the participants ditched
us. Still, I smiled as if nothing happened when the amazing 5 SK participants arrived at the venue two hours
later.

As a part of the Documentation committee, I was in charge in taking photos for the whole day. I
followed them as they cleared every station and earned their puzzle pieces. Along the way, the surliness
caused by the ―abduction‖ incident disappeared and was replaced with fun.

The participants were not the only one who enjoyed the day; even all the LTS 2 students had fun.
Regardless of the amount of efforts everybody had to give to make it happen, it was all worth it. At the end of
the day, everybody has a smile on their face. The photos won‘t lie. And the food! The foods were soooooooo
great! Thumbs up to the Finance Committee!

x. Committee Work

Documentation committee probably has the lightest share of work among all the committees. Not
that I am the leader, but because our job was mainly focused on compiling the outputs of everyone. The only
possible hassle there is if their output submission would late. Unlike the other committees they had to face
physical, emotional, and mental stress all through the preparation and until the Fieldwork was done.

ii. Module Writing

Our group mate Jeremy made the first draft of our module since he had the initiative more than the
rest of us. Module writing might seem easy to do but it is actually more than just enumerating the materials
and explaining the game‘s mechanics. We need to make sure that the participants would be able to do the
task within the allotted time for our station, Competence. We divided the task. The three of us, Jeremy, Paul
and I, made the revisions while Marco researched for the multiple intelligences.

When we submitted the first draft, Paul and I made the revisions that need to be done for the
second draft. I took charge of the later drafts. Finally, we were able to finalize all the materials needed and
the flow of activity.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Our class was expecting 16 SK participants. However, only 5 showed up. We were really
disappointed and mad because we really exerted effort in making our modules and planning for that day.
And not only were our efforts wasted, but also our money. We made an estimate that 60 people would be
there so we contributed 200 php per person.

Since there‘s really nothing that we can do about the participants‘ number, we just went with what
was planned originally. It was good that some of our classmates agreed to participate in the team building
activity.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I really enjoyed the games we played in class. Before, I didn‘t really feel like joining or participating
because I felt like the games were unnecessary for the class. But because we were all required to
participate (except for Marco and whoever feels sick), I learned to love playing in class. I actually looked
forward to whatever game we were to play for the day.

These games for me were no longer just ice breakers but a way to build friendship among us. If not
for these games, I wouldn‘t have gotten close to my classmates. I would simply be just a class goer,
attending class for the sake of passing the subject.
v. Comments on classmates

I really appreciate my classmates because they are all cooperative especially during the organizing
for our fieldwork. Everyone was working and tries not to be a burden to others. We were like psychics,
sensitive to others‘ needs.

I also commend my co-committees K, Tabitha, Julio and Paul. If not for each, we would not be able
to our job properly. It is also when I realized that even a joker can be serious and actually bring a very
delicious dip.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

My highlights of LTS 2 would be our field work and if ever, our plan on having an overnight
swimming. Our field work was really tiring, yes. But it was also fun. We really enjoyed the entire preparation
for that day up to the fieldwork itself.

I also will not forget the day for each committee‘s pictorial. It wasn‘t a typical technical day for us
LTS 2 students. We just enjoyed smiling and posing for the camera, laughing at how silly we looked like. The
entire park was filled with laughter and memorable conversations.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

The most important lessons I learned in LTS 2 would be being responsible and being sensitive.
Because we cannot just allow one member to do the rest of the job, we had to divide the task and by doing
so, we learned to be responsible in doing whatever it is assigned to us and to be sensitive with our
classmates‘ needs.

The value of friendship is one lesson I will never forget. Our class, we weren‘t just classmates. We
weren‘t just people inside a room, conversing just for the sake of eliminating boredom. We were friends
inside and outside the classroom. Our bond didn‘t stop when the clock hit 4:30 p.m. rather it continued till
dawns. I learned that doing tasks is easier and fun if you aren‘t doing it for a classmate but for a friend.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

As mentioned above, one of the greatest problems we encountered was when only 5 participants
showed up instead of 16. Since all of the activities we planned were supposedly for 16 people, we had to
adjust. We had to stay professional and make everything look like it doesn‘t really matter if there were just 5
participants. To avoid putting our efforts to waste, some of our classmates agreed to participate in the team
building activity. At the end of the day, everything went well and we still enjoyed our fieldwork.

Some minor problems would be communication and division of task since some of our group mates have
their own businesses after class and others had to go home immediately. What we did was take note of
each other‘s schedule and set a date where all of us or most of us is free.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

Our call time last May 5 was 7:00 – 7:30 a.m. and I really commend my classmates for being there
on time. Our fieldwork didn‘t really go the way we planned it. Originally, we planned to start with everything
at 8:00 a.m. if I am not mistaken and due to some circumstances (and I am proud that this flaw did not come
from our class), we were not able to follow the schedule. This irritated most of us because we were
expecting the SKs to be responsible and punctual since these are common traits a leader must have and it
was really just unprofessional that they did not even bother informing us beforehand that others will not be
able to attend the activity.

We tried our best to deal with only five participants. Luckily, we were able to execute some activity
properly. I am glad that everyone was able to keep up with the situation that arose. The day ended with
picture taking.

x. Committee Work

I am glad to have group mates that don‘t pressure everyone especially that we, the Finance
Committee, were in charge of the foods to be served for the fieldwork. Everyone did their part and not one of
use complained with the task assigned by our leader, Tabitha.

I really like our group because we were just chill. Not even our leader tried to be a bossy leader.
We talked and planned out things calmly. Even our group mate Julio who was known best for trolling came
up with a delicious and amazing dip courtesy of her mother. This just shows that even though we laugh and
joke during our meetings, we were able to serve the class with good foods.

i. Teambuilding Activity

Sad to say, I was absent during the teambuilding activity. But from what I heard, it was hard,
challenging, and at the same time fun. Sorry for the inconvenience.

ii. Module Writing

I thought at first that we were not going to make modules. I thought that we were only going to
make brochures for pregnant teenagers but our LTS2 instructor, Ma‘am Destiny S. Lutero, found a new path.
Following her, we abandoned the brochures and instead focused on teaching SKs the 7C‘s and the dangers
of drugs. Even though the modules seemed easy to write, it took a while for us to make our respective
modules. Maybe it was because we were lazy (except for Nessa) and we did not have the initiative to do it.
However, when we finally got the initiative (or deadline) to write it, it was quickly finished. Ma‘am Des really
helped us in writing our modules by guiding us each step of the way.

III. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

Because the class was organized into different committees and stations, the workshop was quite
easy. Due to the division of labor, the tasks were easier than it was made out to be. Thankfully, everyone did
their roles and the workshops were a success.

iv. Comments on Other Activities in the Class

Classes were always fun. We always had games. Even when Ma‘am Des ran out of games to play,
we suggested some games that we knew. The losers of the games would be forced to entertain the class,
usually it would be through a song. The games and the entertainment serve as icebreakers to avoid
boredom during class.

v. Comments on Classmates

Thankfully, my classmates were all ―bibo‖. Because of them, I would never forget my LTS 2
experiences. The games, powertrips, and others made us closed to each other. I think it was because of
Ma‘am Des that we all got closer to one another. She made us open up and go out of our comfort zones. I
would really miss Ma‘am Des and all my classmates who in their own ways would make them unforgettable.
vi. Highlights of LTS 2

I saw everything that we did as a highlight. The games, powertrip, meetings, fieldwork, and others
made LTS 2 very unforgettable. I don‘t think that LTS 2 was fun just because of the fieldwork but because of
all the stuff that we did, which when combine together was pretty special.

vii. Most Important Lesson Learned in LTS 2

Besides the 7Cs, I think the most important lesson I learned in LTS 2 is to have fun. The semesters
were brutal and I really needed to unwind. Thank God, I got LTS 2 for summer. Having fun taught me that
we can do things in another way. If we incorporate fun into work or classes, then it wouldn‘t feel like that
class/work is a burden.

viii. Problems Encountered and Solutions Recommended

I think that the one of the biggest problems in LTS 2 during summer is that there are no students to
teach. But thankfully, Ma‘am Des invited the SK‘s so we had somebody to teach. But, during the fieldword
proper, instead of the projected 15-20 SK‘s who would participate, only 5 came. The solution was that some
of us would compete in the games instead of being facilitators. The solution was to be resourceful with what
we had and it turned out great for us.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

I thought the fieldwork would go very smooth. Everything was in place, all we needed was the SK‘s
to show up. They did, but there were only 5 of them instead of the 15-20 participants we anticipated.
Because of that, some of us (Me, Mikka, and Abby) were forced to play in the games. Together with one SK
(Math), we formed one team (Team Hello). We competed against Team Barney and Friends in the amazing
race. Each station was challenging but we won at the end. After the race, we had lunch which was prepared
by the Program Committee. Our lunch was Buffalo Chicken with iced tea. After lunch, there was a lecture
about drugs and the dangers it possess. After the lecture was the awarding ceremony. Next, we had our
final meeting as a class and talked about our respective realizations and experiences in LTS 2. It actually
was a sad moment for me because it would be the last time we would be together as a class. Lastly, we had
another activity which was to write on the paper on each one‘s backs a farewell message. It was a sad
moment to say goodbye to my classmates but I am very thankful for the experiences we have shared.
x. Committee Work

I was part of the Program Committee which was headed by Allison. We were tasked to handle the
flow of the program. There was division of labor and I was assigned to make the certificates of participation
for the SKs. I think we did a pretty good job and kudos to Allison for being a great leader.
MORADO, El king D.

i. Team Building Activity

Our ―bonds‖ started to form during the team building activity. I started to remember their faces and
their names. I also started to have a hint on their personalities and attitudes. I enjoyed the fun of LTS 2
during the team building as I expected. During these games, all I wanted is to enjoy even if I lose. Everybody
were cooperative yet competitive.

ii. Module Writing

I was assigned to be on the ―Drugs Committee‖. We divided our module into parts and had an
online meeting during the module writing. Some of us did not able to go online because of some personal
reasons. I volunteered to be the one who will make the deepening part. Using Juan Luna‘s idea, we created
a game that the knowledge they gained on the input part will be applied in a funny and colorful way. The
game was originally named as the ―photo booth game‖. It will let the participants use their knowledge on the
effects of different kinds of drugs on the appearances of the ones who used it. The final draft on the drugs
parts was finished the day after our meeting, it was finalized and was submitted to Mam Des. After some
days, I got sick and was not able to go online and go to class for one meeting. I did not know that they
revised our module and renamed the game. But when I got relatively well, they have finished our revised
module so I did not have a chance to help in the revision process. So for me to be helpful, I dedicated my
time on the logistics committee and tried to be productive.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

We divided the work by committee. We, on the logistics committee, were assigned to buy materials
before the workshop for the workshop, but unfortunately, I was not able to help in buying the materials
because I got sick. During the workshop, Nessa assigned me and Robin to help the Competence group, but
the competence group does not need any materials to be made. The logistics committee enjoyed making the
puzzle pieces. I think it is just fine for just us to make it because we in our committee have more than
enough people to finish it, so I think there were no problems on that part. I drew one of the puzzle boards,
the clear and common goal puzzle. We in the logistics committee bonded a lot.
iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

All of the games we played were fun and made me enjoy and love my classmates and Mam des. I
find the first aid training helpful but boring, I am not sure if it is because of the time of the day it was held, the
vastness of the room or the lecturer.

v. Comments on classmates

I love all of my classmates, even our personalities vary in great degree. I enjoyed going to my LTS
2 class because of them. I really do not know what to right this part so I will just literally describe and
comment on each of my classmates on my opinion in order on how the names were written on the contact
information sheet. Jez is a silent type of person and we were not able to bond a lot so all I can comment
about him is he is patient and approachable based on the time we fetch the participants. Alli or Sky is a
sincere, soft-spoken and kind classmate, and most of all she is welcoming host, she let us stayed on her
place during the movie marathon night. Char and Reina is a funny duo, they always provide a funny
atmosphere every class. They always have very funny side comments but they also have the most
contribution on terms of the constructive progress of the class in many ways. Robin or Rey is a sociable
friend, he is also kind hearted and he always smile. Rose were my friend since our sophomore years, she is
extremely kind and also a silent type of person since the day I met her. Scarlett or Tabby is one of my
favorite classmates, she is very approachable, welcoming, cool, talented, responsible and gorgeous. She is
also proven to be not afraid to any horror movie that she have already watched. Chelo is also a silent type of
person and we were not able to bond a lot. She is also an approachable classmate and a nice groupmate. K
rapidly turns red in any non-neutral emotion, she is sweet, caring and you can see sincerity on her eyes.
Allison is a responsible, reliable, approachable and is always game and a sport classmate. Ces or Princess
got the most beautiful smile in the entire class, she gets easily scared in horror movies and also a silent type
person. She is also very approachable and sincere. Juan Luna is the funnies and coolest in the class, he is
always in ―chill mode‖ I think, which makes him always late. Kim is the classmate that I have bonded the
most this summer, she also gets easily scared by horror movies and appreciative. Marco and Mikka is a nice
couple, they are funny in different ways. Jerome is friendly and responsible, he is also sincere. Kits is
professional but explains unclearly, I think he finds hard to speak directly to the point. Jeremy is very funny
and one of my favorite classmates, he is also responsible and reliable. Nessa is extremely responsible and
reliable compared to us, she is a good leader and she is also approachable. Munchkin is talented and also
approachable, we also bonded a lot. Paul is a quiet type of person and we did not bonded a lot. Abby is
friendly, a nice person, sociable and appreciative. JC is also one of my favorite classmate, she is the most
sincere and the most appreciative of us all but she is always shy. Marvi can do the cheche-bureche voices,
he is also funny sometimes. I will also include Mam Des here. Mam Des is a soft-spoken, flexible,
understanding and a funny teacher. I am very thankful to be in this LTS 2 class and it was a fun summer.
vi. Highlights of LTS 2

I think the highlights of the LTS 2 is the Field Work and the talent portions as the ―punishment‖. I
enjoyed letting the class hear my animal sounds. But I was not able to show them my lion and my hawk
sound because I have not perfected it yet. I have a lot more animal sounds that they did not hear and other
sound effects that I can produce. I also enjoyed Marvi‘s cheche-bureche and shawran, and the duet of
Munchkin and Abby and Mam Des‘s pusong bato. I enjoyed all of the talent portions and the trill in playing
the games. Like Kim, I wish there are more class days or we will spend longer time with the whole class.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

The most important lesson I learned in LTS 2 is to have fun while learning through experience.
Without the LTS 2, there is a chance that I will not be able to stay in Los Banos this summer, or even I had a
chance, it will be boring. I also learned how to appreciate what we have and be flexible. To think under
pressure and to lessen my shyness.

viii. Problems Encountered and solutions/recommendations

We had a very big problem when the participant showed up were extremely few, from 25 to 20 to
16 down to 5. That was unexpected and disappointing, and they also showed 1 hour and 30 minutes late
and caused us to adjust the time frame and the activities.

Another problem is when Kits discussed the drugs parts and he removed a lot of parts in the drug
lecture, some of efforts were I think wasted because of this change of plans and some of his discussions,
facts and explanations were unrelated to the topic, misleading, irrelevant and not strait to the point, but
luckily Reina, Nessa, Rey, Tabby and I patched it in some ways I think.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

Munchkin, Jez and I waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes for the 3 participants to arrive. We seated on
a bench on the Barangay Hall watching the CCTV‘s and talking about the event. After few minutes, I got
bored and decided to listen to music using my phone and sleep, Jez played PSP and Munchkin got irritated
and bored. After an hour, 3 participants arrived and they tried to contact the supposed to be other
participants. After 1 hour and 20 minutes, we decided to go back and just wait the participants on the venue.
We decided to still facilitate the team building and other activities even we lack participants. We made major
adjustments in the activities. I am the one who guided the first group, which contained 4 SK‘s from one
station to another. They seemed to enjoy the team building activity and the games. After the whole fieldwork
part, I think we, the facilitators, somehow enjoyed even we had an extremely big problem.

x. Committee Work

We had no problem on the Logistics Committee. Nessa was a good leader and everybody followed
her. I think every committee had done their parts well and we had no problem about that. In the drugs group,
we had problems with Kit‘s part but we did not know that he got big problems because he did no tell us and
he still accepted a lot of responsibilities even he knows he got a lot of problems. We in logistics committee
with Kim bonded a lot, through food trips and movie marathons. Nessa also treated us with tootsie rolls and
candies.
QUITORIANO, John Paulo

i. Teambuilding Activity

The activities are really great. They were able to foster camaraderie among us and create new
friendships. It is important in a team that all of the members are in good terms. We are also able to learn the
fundamentals of tembuilding, the ―7Cs‖.

In the game ―Pass the Message‖, effective comunication was tested. Communication is important in
a team or an organization because it is thru this that linkages are established, information is passed on and
the system goes on.

In the other games, the other Cs was demonstrated namely: Competence, Culture of Concern,
Collective Leadership, etc.

ii. Module Writing

At first, I was so excited because it is my forte. But then due to some personal problems, I wasn‘t
able to do my assigned task. But then due to the skills and leadership of my fellow members of the Drug
Committee, they were able to come up with good module.

The module was somehow easy to write because of our familiarity and knowledge about drugs. It is
also being discussed during our LTS 1 class.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

During workshops, I wasnt able to do my best due to some problems but then at least I was able
to contribute something. I would like to recognize the efforts of each committee and their respective heads. I
was able to see their leadership and initiative to make this project into reality.

I would like to commend my committee, the Programs Committee headed by Allison Danao. Our
task is lighter compared to the Logistics Committee. But then, there are some problems, for instance, on
what would be the design of the certificates and ID.
iv. Comments on Other Activities Done in Class

The other activities created a funny atmosphere. We enjoyed it. And honestly, those memories
caused us to really love and treasure this class.

Kudos also to our teacher, Prof. Destiny S. Lutero for bringing a lot of new games and activities
although sometimes or most often, i‘m the loser. 

v. Comments on Classmates
My classmates are great and they are sociable. We came from different places and we have
different backgrounds but then again we were able to work as one, move as one and fly as one.
There are those that are so pro-active like Reina and Nessa. And there are those who are silent like
JC and Jerome. But then, all of us wants happinessand fulfilment that we were able to get at theend of each
day.

vi. Highlights of LTS2

This LTS 2 Summer class was actually about the 7 Cs. The activities, the fieldwork and the
workshops was all about this fundamental values. It was highlighted at the start of the class.

i. Teambuilding activity

The first activity that we have executed is the team building. This is to orient us with the essential
qualities needed for an activity. The 7 C‘s that have discussed are the fundamentals of the activities that we
have conducted as well as it also serve as a lesson to us. We have to put in mind that the good leader and a
good follower must have remember the 7 C‘s in order to avoid any conflicts with the other groupmates. The
day was filled with fun and learning experiences. We learned a lot from each other and we shared common
interest. It was a tough game but we enjoyed cheering our groupmates and building up camaraderie among
each other. The purpose of this teambuilding activity is to improve ourselves and to enhance our abilities in
physical, mental, and social aspects.

The main goal of the activity is to teach the students on the fundamentals of the 7 C‘s and how will
they be able to grasp their importance and apply it to daily life. One C that has marked on my mind is the
Common and Clear Communication. This C is very significant to us in our daily living because it enables us
to gather the information and be a good listener to other. I learned that in every activity has a purpose and
lesson to apply. After the teambuilding, the lessons that I have learned in that activity will remain as long as I
exist.

ii. Module writing

The importance of the module is that it serves as a guide and foundation of the different parts of the
activity. In writing the module, it requires that we need to be direct and specific of the different topic involved
in the discussion and input part of the activity. In writing the rules and regulations of the game, it must be
objective and can be execute normally by the participant. The main goal of the module is to give the
facilitators the written script and assumptions regarding the activity.

In writing the module, one must think of the possible result of the activity. We expect that the
participants would be able to figure out the essential word which is the main topic of the activity. The main
focus of the module is the activity, discussion, and the input. Conclusion should therefore be done in every
module to further supplement the idea.
iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

The fieldwork workshop is the most crucial part in the whole span of the preparation because it
requires enough strategy and time to conduct it effectively. Modules should be finalized and double checked.
Though there are some difficulties regarding the attendance of the members, the workshop has been done
perfectly. Tasking of members is done accordingly and the division of labor is assigned based on the
committee assignment.

Visual aids and the materials per station that is required in the teambuilding were bought with the
use of the contributions of members. Buying the materials was made easy because they were available in
the market but some of the stations in the teambuilding requires long workshops because their props is too
heavy and complicated.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

The activities done in class were fun and I enjoyed it. Some of the activities were breath-taking and
some were suspense. One activity that has marked on my mind is the Bahay Baboy Bagyo. This activity is
very fun and requires a strong sense among your classmates. The different activities done in the class gave
me a lot of lessons.
The 7C‘s in helped me to visualize more on the lessons and ideas of the different activities. Every
activity has its purpose and lesson that at the end of the day, we were be able to understand why we have to
do the process. The activities done in the class taught me how to become more aware of the rules and
regulations and to become a keen observer in the surroundings.

v. Comments on classmates

My classmates in LTS 2 were the best ever. Even though we have a short span of time to have in
summer, still we have enough time to know each other and to familiarize our own weaknesses and abilities. I
can see the spirit of a leader in Kits and Nessa. They have a strong sense of motivation and determination.
There are even some of us who are expert in arts and some of us have the talent to sing.

Our class is diverse yet we tend to know and understand each other. We have our own abilities to
stand out and be unique. What is best about my classmates is that we were be able to interact and bond
among each other even we met in a short time. We shared common thoughts and ideas and respect each
other‘s opinion.
vi. Highlights of LTS 2

The highlight in LTS 2 is the Field Work which was conducted last May 5. It was a fun-filled activity
because at least we have done our part to teach and share what we have known in LTS 2. Though it was a
tiring day, but the purpose we have in the activity has been achieved. It was the last day of LTS2, but it was
a fulfilling. At the end of the day,

We experienced how to interact with the different people, the SK, and be able to prove our talents
and skills. It was our first time to conduct such activity but at least we successfully executed the task given to
us and be able to perform it accordingly. Actually, the main goal of LTS 2 is to impart and teach other people
the knowledge which is essential for living and learning. Learning is unending process. That‘s why, even in a
little way, we were be able to share and impart the knowledge that we gained.

vii. Most important lesson learned in LTS 2

The most important lesson that I have learned in LTS 2 is on how to value communication.
Communication is very essential among us. We can understand each other through different ways of
communication. As soon as you move one step up from the bottom, your effectiveness depends on your
ability to reach others through the spoken and written word.

In communicating with other people, you must put respect into it and understand what he or she is
saying. I learned how to value communication through respect and empathize on others.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

The problems encountered in the LTS 2 Summer class are the lack of module and modified time
table for the different schedules to be conducted. The course should have more field work to enhance the
skills in teachings and should have seminars to build their abilities in handling programs.

LTS 2 should focus on the different skills and abilities of the students to further improve their
knowledge on the said activities. They should have a modified handouts and exercises. One problem that I
had encountered with the LTS 2 summer is that the last activity that we had, which is the fieldwork, failed to
have the expected number of participants. Instead 16 participants, it was down to only five which alarmed all
of us because expectations were not met.
ix. Field work (Morning and Afternoon)

The field work that we had conducted was a different level of experience because we were being
able to encounter different people. This activity had enhanced our skills in handling different tasks. Executing
and planning an activity was not an easy task but with the knowledge that we have gained in LTS 1 and the
thorough preparations in the field work had made it successful event.

There are some instances that we encountered problems like the time. T We have to adjust all the
activities because the participants arrived late and they were only five. The food was good and satisfying.
The venue was comfortable but the slides in the seminar part seem that it lacks workshop because some of
the relevant topics were not discussed. At the end the day, it was successful and we had fun sharing
thoughts and giving ideas. In the morning, we started the program late and we had no time for the opening
and the introductory rites. But in the afternoon, the seminar was presented well and the participants have
grasped the important ideas about drugs. However, there is some technicalities regarding the slides and
organization of topics. We had fun doing the task together and at the end of the day, we successfully
performed our respective parts in the activity.

x. Committee work

The leader for program committee (Allison) is well organized and she assigned us in the different
fields in the program, from the registration to the closing remarks. She sees to it that the tasks were done
properly. There are no problem that we had encountered with the flow of the program but the materials we
have prepared in the activity was too many and the participants that arrived were only five. This gave us a bit
disappointment.

Planning and strategy we have proposed in the committee task assignments were equally divided
and the leader assured that all of the committee members were assigned in all the tasks in the field work.
We shared our own opinions and open up different ideas so that the committee body will have harmonized
relationship among each other in solving the different problems to be encountered in the activity. It was good
that we were oriented with the different task to be done by the program committee because it was my first
time to handle this committee and at the end of the day, I can say that I did my best.
SANCHEZ, Vanessa Mae

i. Team Building Activity

After doing some pondering about the case on the pregnant people literacy work, we have come up
to the conclusion that it isn‘t possible to happen. So, our instructor looked for ways to have alternative
replacement to the case. That‘s when the teambuilding idea took place. I was so excited upon knowing that
because I know that this will be a very nice experience in the field and a good way of sharing what‘s ours
and hearing what‘s theirs. But I noticed that some of were not familiar on what a team building should work
and how to organize it efficiently. However, our class found ways on how to make the others keep on the
track of planning the team building. I was also motivated yet unconfident when our class divided us into four
committees. Unconfident because of the unfamiliarity of my group mates and I was afraid to make
conversations with them now that I am their head. But that didn‘t hinder me to perform effectively in my
committee.

To make us more ready about what will happen, our instructor managed to give us some fun and
learning activities that will help us in forming our modules, activities and discussions. I thought that
organizing this kind of activity would be easy having 26 people planning 1 activity. But it wasn‘t. This kind of
situation surprised me because I am always the subject of the team building that is why I didn‘t see how it is
being planned. But luckily, the seven C‘s reminded us many things of being a team. And this 7C‘s were used
as the subject of the discussion of the members to the participants to the upcoming event that made the
situation more challenging and fun.

ii. Module Writing

At first, I was out of ideas on how are we going to make a module that we are going to use in our
station of communication and clear and common goal. ―What activity are we going to implement?‖ ―What
questions are we going to ask?‖ These are just some of the questions that bother us in Station 2. But after a
lot of brainstorming, we formulated an activity that will suite to our goals. The ADIDS strategy (Activity,
Discussion, Input, and Deepening) helped us a lot in making questions and concepts to be discussed in our
module. Though we are using the ADIDS strategy, we were still puzzled of what a module should consist like
does it has to obtain objectives, rules of the activity, and the like. That is why; we consulted our first draft
module to our instructor for some revisions and suggestions on what our module is lacking. After the first
draft has been checked, we found out that we took a little deep on giving the objectives of the activity and
discussion. Ma‘am Des has a doubt that the last 2 objectives were way beyond the goals that we should be
conferring to the participants. So, to make our module at least right, Cess, Kuya Jez, MRV and I made a little
brainstorming to finalize our module and on the next day, our module is just right for our station. Thanks to
Ma‘am Des and the ADIDS strategy.

iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

It was a fine day but suddenly it rained very hard that made me struggle in carrying the materials for
the workshop that day. Obviously, the collective leadership station was the only station who did some
workshop because the rest of the station didn‘t highly need workshop so they had a meeting with their
respective station members about some certain matters within stations and divided responsibilities inside
their station. Each committee had a little meeting as well talking about expenses, program flow, physical
arrangements, and activities during and after team building and lecture about drugs. It was also the time
when Ma‘am Des has to attend a seminar and get the final list of participants for the team building in
Barangay Batong Malake. So obviously, there was no Ma‘am Des to watch over our loudness and too much
fun activities inside the room. We were dismissed early except for the Logistics Committee who was making
the puzzle pieces to be used in the event. It was a bonding time for us Logistics that time. And it was fun yet
scary for some of the Logistics stayed there until pass 5 pm.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

The LTS 2 Section H Summer class of 2013 is not it without the fun learning activities (games, in
short) and power trips. So I want to comment first on these learning games and power trips. It was a very
good way to start the heavy discussions and brainstorming for the team building. But if we are going to go
back to what the syllabus of LTS 2 should consist, some of the activities done in class are out of the topic
like the power trip things where in if the class wants to make fun of other persons in class. I am not saying
that it‘s a dreadful thing. It‘s just out of the discussion but it was amusing though. It‘s good to break rules
sometimes. Second thing is the fun discussion. The discussion was formal but it‘s not boring. It‘s not
―Boring‖. We always assume that formal arguments are boring stuffs but not this time. LTS 2 Class is one of
the small classes that I experienced fun while learning. It‘s a very hard trait of a class to achieve. ―Nice one
Ma‘am Des!‖ Before we start the discussion, during the course of the discussion and before the discussion
ends and after the discussion, we always seek some funny things and side comments that prolonged our
class hours most of the time. And lastly, activities in class are strategic yet pragmatic. Our class followed
the strategies provided by our instructor but we still use our own skills and knowledge in forming plans and
activities our class. We seek easier way for us to understand the matter by the use of practical conversations
and ways to formulate plans, to enhance our camaraderie with each other and to voice out clearly what are
our stand about detailed themes about the class and our performance.
v. Comments on classmates

So far, these are the best people of my summer 2013 stay in UPLB. We come from different
disciplines and interests as well as values united by the need to pass the subject LTS 2. Haha! And in 28
days of being with them, I would like to emphasize the things that I noticed about these awesome creatures
(creatures talaga? parang hayop lang... .sorry Dokyu for my side comments, feel free to expunge this if it‘s
necessary). One is their lack of volunteerism. Most of my classmates are hesitated in joining activities using
their own will. Whenever Ma‘am asked some volunteers, only a little raise their hands to volunteer. As a
result, Ma‘am uses activities like games that will force my classmates to volunteer in some activities inside
the class. In other words, their initiative attitude should be improved. Second is the good communication that
occurred inside and outside the classroom. If there is a classmate that is shy to make conversations in the
class, some of their classmates seek ways on how to reach them out in their own little ways. That is why; we
have built a strong relationship within the class. We‘re not just classmates. We‘re good friends now. Third
thing is that, whatever happens, ―we are one‖. Being a team was highly exercised in our class. It‘s like we
are a big ―Ohana‖ where no one gets left behind. During learning activities especially in power trips we are
one. That brings me to my next thing about my classmates. They possessed one of the seven C‘s which is
the culture of concern. We have a great concern with each other. We didn‘t hesitate on helping a classmate
whenever they are in need and at the same time some of us managed to ask some help whenever they
need to. That‘s the good thing about having each other at any rate.

Culture of concern will not be culture of concern without understanding. We all have issues. We all
have flaws. But each and everyone manage to accept the class whatever they are and whatever they
believed in. We understand why some of our classmates behave and act that way. And I love that thing
about them.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

LTS 2 class is one my subjects that are very close to my heart. There are so many events inside
the class that brought me to my core but here are some of the major highlights of the class. Of course the
star of all the stars of our class is the team building event for the SK members of Barangay Batong Malake.
All the sweats and blood that we shed (so deep) were because of this event. It‘s like we learn from sudden
changes and from the participants a lot. Second highlight for me is the team building during the second
week of the class. This team building was clearly dedicated for us. It was the time when I made stereotypes
on my classmates (yeah, pretty offensive to prejudge but it‘s not that bad). However the activities were so
fun and entertaining. And it made us express who we really are. Third are the brainstormings events where
all of us share what we think and give suggestions about the things that are we going to do every day and of
course in the main event of our class. Next is the learning game that boggled our minds and filled the class
with laughter whenever some of us did things that we sometimes never expect to do.

vii. Most important lessons learned from LTS 2

We learn a lot of things in very trouble-free ways even inside or outside the group. However there
are three things I learned inside the room. They are collective leadership, the application of ADIDS strategy
and the friendship inside and outside the classroom. First is the collective leadership. I hugely realized the
difference between a boss and a leader. A boss is someone who makes commands on his own and being
followed by the members but a leader is someone who makes plans and commands together with his
members. That is the spirit of collective leadership. A team consists of a leader and members that
proactively contribute to the group and have specific goals collectively formed. Second is the ADIDS which
stands for ―Activity, Discussion, Input and Deepening‖ strategy. This kind of strategy touches the objective
and subjective part of the topic. From simple conversations to deep understanding of what the concept is
really implying. Looking beyond what you see is the value that can get from using ADIDS (well, at least for
me). ADIDS is also a great know-how to the field I am engaged now. It thought me how to balance the
quality and quantity of things.

And the greatest lesson I‘ve learned from the class is the friendship built inside and outside the
room is a constant. I‘d say it‘s constant because the fun doesn‘t end inside the room. Even outside, we have
friendly conversations. Some of us eat outside and buy stuffs and watch movies sometimes. And whenever
we are inside the classroom we do some power trips, teasing each others‘ lacking, hahaha. It‘s like if all my
friends jumped off a bridge… I wouldn‘t. I‘d be at the bottom waiting to catch them. We have each other in
good times and bad times. For a very short period of time, we were able to prove that friendship can‘t be
measure by ―how long‖ but ―how strong even in times of troubles‖. It definitely was a good friendship. As a
result, it‘s so hard to let go (CHOS!)

viii.Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

The major problem for me during the course of the subject is the unpunctuality issues of the
participants during our main event. Yes, I was a little furious about it because I take deadlines and
commitments intensely. Upon hearing a few number of participants (defining few, FIVE participants) that will
join our event, the committees revised their plans and the class decided to make another team representing
another group that will compete with the SK members. Second is the over simplification of tasks made the
situation unorganized. The solution being made is that if the task is simple, it can manage by one or two but
still stick to the plan being created during the brainstorming. And lastly is the lack of initiatives and deadlines
of the members. I greatly observed at the beginning of the class that my classmates were late in coming to
class as a result, Ma‘am Des punished those students by singing any kind of song or the UP Naming Mahal
Hymn. And it turned out that the number of tardiness decreased.

ix. Fieldwork

The day of the team building started right. The students of LTS 2 assembled quickly and were very
enthusiastic in preparing the stuffs and activities that will happen in the morning ceremony that will occur
before the team building activity proper but as time flew, we were all worried about why the expected 20
participants weren‘t still present. And after waiting for an hour, Ma‘am Des informed us that there will be only
5 participants for the activity. We were all disenchanted and furious about the participants but still we have to
perform what has been planned for the last 4 weeks in class. We, together with our stressed yet beloved
instructor, Ma‘am Destiny Lutero managed to look the situation in a very optimistic way and revised our
plans for the 5 Sangguniang Kabataan participants. Because of a huge delay of the program, the Program
Committee and Ma‘am Des decided to start the team building as the participants arrived. Yes, it was clearly
perceived that we didn‘t open the event in a formal way but we have no choice. We need to do it.

While other committees were making changes in their routines, MRV, King, Munchkin, JC, Chelo,
Jerome, Robin and I reassigned our responsibilities in each station. Like the problem in our station regarding
what alternative place should we consider for our station because apparently, CAS A2 101 was not available
during that time. It was quite unorganized because, honestly, we were not ready for enormous changes like
this but because we were very fervent about this event, flexibility and risk taking attitudes took place. So its
final, to have another team, other students from LTS 2 joined the activity that made us more excited about it.
I thought that things will be falling apart, our spirits will be low about what happened but, thanks to the strong
willed Ma‘am Des and LTS 2 students it went well as supposed. The stations were packed with
learning and fun. On the time that participants went on our station which is the ―obstacle station‘ according to
them, they were all passionate in finishing the goal as a team. As a facilitator, it was a fulfilling practice to
discuss our knowledge about communication and clear/common goal in a team. But it was more fulfilling to
hear the participants‘ especially the SK members‘ knowledge about it and how they are using these traits in
helping the youths in their community. Although there are only 5 SK members who joined the activity, that
didn‘t hinder them to express their selves and learning from them. After the team building activity, we all took
our lunches while watching movies (How awesome was that?) Then after taking our lunch and some rests
and picture takings, the Drugs Team prepared their lecture about drugs. Knowing that there will be a ―SINE
MO ‗TO?‖ segment before the lecture, I was shocked when the formal lecture started. Honestly, the lecture
was kind of stressing (not knowing the personal issues occurring to Kits) because of its unorganized
presentation and it felt like the discussion was pointing at many issues and not following the draft prepared
by the team. Looking it at a positive way, recreational activities like face painting and summary of the lecture
were enjoyed by the audience but I am not saying that the lecture was bad. It‘s just that it‘s not consistent
and did not follow the draft. At the end of the day, everything falls into their rightful places. I guess that we
did a very good job!

Adding to what was mentioned before, the fieldwork turned out well but of course sudden changes
happen like a maximum of 5 participants will partake in the team building, the event did not started formally
like the postponement of the National Anthem singing, Opening remarks. However, the debriefing was
pushed through of course. the weather was not so good and unpredictable. As a result, some of us didn‘t
feel well after the team building. Another thing is a good discussion of the goals though in a very limited time
with the SK members in the course of being in our station. An interest thing also happened. It was when
Math, a member from the SK was part of the group 2 dominated by the LTS 2 students. I was so amazed
because based from my little talk with him, he felt very comfortable being with his teammates Marco, Mikka
and Abby. After that, of course lunch break, the lecture on drugs and awarding of Hello.

x. Committee Work

Before doing some Logistics work with JC, Chelo, Robin, King, Munchkin, Jerome and MRV, I
wasn‘t confident about them. I used to work effectively on my own. And when I was chosen as the head of
this great committee, I need to forget what I want instead what the group needs. I was bashful in starting a
conversation with them at first of course. I was picky to the words I will say to them. So, our first
conversations were merely about Logistics. Just about business inside our committee. So I seek ways on
how to make my Logistics family have connections with each other. I often send groups messages to them.
It‘s not the typical boring business messages but messages like greetings, ―How are you?‖, ―Are you doing
good?‖ and of course reminders about the Logistics committee works. But still, I was still in doubt of our
formation in the committee. But I manage to be professional about the commitment that has been given to
be. I said to myself, ―Work should always be done. Then after this, it‘s done.‖ And after a week, the work is
coming and we need to work things out. We often have conversations not the usual business conversations
but friendly and entertaining conversations. I wasn‘t expecting that this will happen. Actually it started when
our committee was planning about what concept we should use during the photo shoot. We did some face
painting and it was so spontaneous that we enjoyed it on our own ways and express ourselves during that
time. Before we left the photo shoot area, we discovered that MRV can animate the voices of some
personalities that amused us a lot. We went home like friends talking about random funny things and finally
said good bye to them. Then, last week when we bought some materials for the workshop in class, the
bonding was enormous. Because I am so touched for helping me, though it is needed, I treated them with
some ice cream after a stressful shopping of materials. And of course, we have random chats about
ourselves which was so priceless. I thought of wishing to be with these people a little more longer.
Whenever we have meetings, we always find times to amuse ourselves by singing, power trips in our
committee, jokes and funny stuffs that I will surely missed and will not forget. Then, there you go. I was so
attached to them. They are like my ―ohana‖ inside a big ―ohana‖. (Ohana means family by the way. It‘s just
sweet to use it instead of family.) I see to it that they are doing well always by texting them at least once a
day and sometimes have dinner with them whenever they are free.

At the main event, which is the team building, I make sure that all of us are doing great and ready
for their responsibilities as Logistics committee members. Although we made a lot of changes to our
routines, we still handled to do our errands proficiently. I am so proud of them. I was so blessed to be with
JC, Chelo, King, MRV, Munchkin, Robin and Jerome. I want them to know that I am very honoured being
their committee head. And I‘ve come up with the realization how hypocrite I am to think of ― ...Then after this,
it‘s done. I will not work with them after this‖. I was completely wrong. I will miss working with them and being
with their company.

i. Teambuilding activity

Team building is an ongoing process that helps a work group evolves into a cohesive unit. The
team members not only share expectations for accomplishing group tasks, but trust and support one another
and respect one another's individual differences. Your role as a team builder is to lead your team toward
cohesiveness and productivity. A team takes on a life of its own and you have to regularly nurture and
maintain it, just as you do for individual team member.

With good team-building skills, you can unite each member around a common goal and generate
greater productivity. Without them, you limit yourself and the staff to the effort each individual can make
alone.

Due to a small class with a very energetic moderator, each teambuilding activities are done and
executed not just properly, but also enjoyable. Some of the activities can be described as ―breath-taking, life-
threatening,‖ but I can say that it‘s worth the shot. It‘s basically experience and also an opportunity which
must be grabbed immediately, for it may not occur again.

Based on lectures and experiences, there are guiding principles that a certain teambuilding activity
can lead to. And these are:

 Good communications with participants


 Increased productivity and creativity
 Each members motivated to achieve goals
 A climate of cooperation and collaborative problem-solving
 Higher levels of satisfaction and commitment
 Higher levels of trust and support
 Diverse members working well together
 Clear work objectives
 Better operating policies and procedures

Generally, I just want to say that all the teambuilding activities that we‘ve done increased the spirit
of camaraderie in all of the LTS members. And I think that is evident in all of us.

ii. Module writing

Basically, I just helped my station members elaborate the activity (Spider Web).

The module writing, from what I remember from our moderator, is that is must consist of the A-D-I
(Activity, Discussion, Interpretation). It‘s basically simple, especially when the actual presentation had taken
place.
iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

As an event, a workshop is any educational seminar or series of meetings emphasizing interaction


and exchange of information among a usually small number of participants.

As a social science or an education, it is a group of people engaged in study or work on a creative


project or subject (such as a music workshop).

But for me, it is the only place (or time) that the members of LTS could come together as one whole
team and give their best in all the preparations for the fieldwork proper. This is also the only time that the
activities that will be done in the fieldwork proper are augmented so that no fatal errors can be done on the
said fieldwork.

iv. Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I have no appalling comments on every activity done inside the class. I have enjoyed all the
activities made, and for a tranquil and introvert like me, it definitely impacted and changed me to a better
person. It made me more sociable and more critical in every decision I made, especially those ―shoe-string‖
choices.

My other comment is that it would be more fun if more than 75 percent of the class participated on
the activities and the venue has a much bigger space. I think that it is more exciting to play those games if
that is the case, but indeed, I still enjoyed the game and the company of my classmates.

v. Comments on classmates

If I have to repeat what I‘ve said/written on the personal evaluation dated 5 May, 2013, it will be a
extensive one. But to generalize, these are what I must say:

 Some students/classmates are too quiet and serene that for them to talk, you
must talk to them first.
 Some students/classmates are too flamboyant that they need to settle down a
little bit, but not to the extent that they will be all so quiet and silence their selves that the
atmosphere of the class will change drastically.
 Some students/classmates are too shy but when it comes to presentation, they
are all prepared and even ―flowing with enthusiasm‖ to stage their talents.
 Some students/classmates should pay more courteousness to the moderator a
little more, even if the latter is acting like a ―buddy‖ to the former.
 Some students/classmates should monitor their tardiness.

Yes, but I can say that without all those different ―flavors‖ in the class, it wouldn‘t be the same class
as this one.
vi. Highlights of LTS 2

One highlight of this LTS class is the Fieldwork Workshop Proper. I remember that being a
member a Logistics committee has big, but not grand, responsibilities. But without these, I don‘t think that I
will become what I am right now, a more sociable and reliable person.

Another highlight is, technically, the fieldwork proper itself. All the hardships we have done in the
workshop paid off. And I think that the same fieldwork will make this LTS class a more memorable one.

vii. Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

Based on the lectures, activities, and workshops I have been through, I think the most significant
and vital lesson I have learned is that the concept of camaraderie and fellowship. Without this idea, the 7 C‘s
learned from the class will be wasted, but not meticulously.

viii. Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

The only major problem I‘ve encountered so far in the LTS class is the fieldwork proper, specifically
the participants. The main problem is that the number of participants, which is planned to be more that
fifteen (15) participants, became five (5) only. I think misunderstanding in not the only problem here; the
attitude of the participants as well towards the organizers of the activities caused the delay and out-
numbered action.

The only solution I could think of is to deliberately enumerate the possible dates of the activity
proper in which case the availability of both factions is given. It is the only time that the assurance of the
number of participants and the preparations for the fieldwork is defined properly.

ix. Fieldwork proper

Following the above mentioned statement, the fieldwork proper turned out to be as good and fine
but not as good as planned, based on my opinion. But I have no regrets whatsoever to what had taken
place.

The said fieldwork became my area of bursting my excitement and merriment. With all of my LTS
classmates and moderator almost present and complete (only one didn‘t have the opportunity to come); the
said fieldwork is the funniest yet memorable event in my college years.

x. Committee work

As a member of the Logistics committee, I think I have done well, even more. With a good guidance
from the head committee, the preparations are done systematically and in a ―fun‖ way.
I also think that we have done a ―thing‖ that is, from our committee head, outside the Logistics‘ job.
But I believe it is more entertaining that way, being able to do what is not for you to be done but completed it
beautifully and artistically.

All in all, I would like to thank all my classmates (Abby, Allison, Ally, Cess, Char, Chelo, JC,
Jeremy, Jerome, Jez, Juan Luna, K, Kim, King, Kits, Marco, Mikka, MRV, Nessa, Paul, Reina, Robin, Rose,
Scarlet) and especially to Ma‘am Des for making this LTS class a memorable one for me. I hope that we can
meet again and chat a little more and do some activities one more time. THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF

i. Team Building Activity

This was actually one of the first activities we have done in LTS 2 and I think it could not have come
at a much better time than that. During this time, the atmosphere in the class was still a little quiet and
awkward because the room was filled students who barely know each other‘s first names and do not know
much about each other just yet. So having a team building activity is just what the class needed to get to
know about each other and get pass that awkward stage.

The first activity we did was Pass the Message and it aimed to teach as something about
communication. Communication was indeed needed in this game as we have to listen carefully and
remember the message being passed by our teammate. However, our purpose was a little defeated by the
fact that almost all members of the groups did not follow the instruction that you can only repeat the
message twice. I myself is guilty of not following that rule. Next activity we did was we had to place
ourselves on a chair together with our group members depending on the count. Culture of concern and
collective leadership for me was the highlights of this activity. The final activity of the day was to make a
tower out of our belongings and this aimed to show our commitment to the group. All in all, I can say that we
have learned enough about ourselves and each other after this team building activity.

ii. Module Writing

I was assigned to the competence station with Kim, Jeremy and Marco. When we first had to met
and talk about our station, we actually had an easy time planning our station. We shared our own ideas
freely and we‘re open for different opinions from each member. And that was a great thing because I never
liked someone who is such a dominant leader and doesn‘t want to listen to other people‘s opinions.

Unfortunately, that was our one and only meeting. We never really had time to talk as a group
again before the actual field work. But we were able to work things out, tasks were still divided evenly and
we never actually had any difficult issues that caused as to falter. At the end of the day, everyone
contributed, everyone did their part and we were able to pass our module on time.

iii.Field work workshop proper

Honestly, this is the part of the class that I did not get to feel or enjoy the most. I do not know,
maybe it‘s because of Competence station did not need that much preparation that is why I got a little
bored through the whole workshop process.
The same goes with my finance committee, besides talking and discussing about the food and
drinks to be served, we never really had to do during the workshop because we did the food preparation
outside class hours. So basically, this was the forgettable part of my whole LTS 2 experience.

iv.Comments on other Activities Done in Class

With regards to the activities done in class, let me just say that LTS 2 was just how I imagined it to
be, a stress relieving class that was a great break from all the academic stuff that I went through last
semester. I went to class everyday with the mindset that it will be a fun and interesting class with no shade
of worries and exams. I just had to come to class with a talent portion prepared in my back pocket but luckily
I never had to use it.

The games were fun and even challenging especially the tricky ones that require a lot of
concentration from us or else we‘ll be singing in response to the class‘ ―Bored!‖ chants. However, I would
suggest that we should have a more organized objective or to do list everyday because sometimes I feel like
the class is a little disorganized and the time spent on choosing what game to play is too long. Other than
that it went perfectly fine.

v.Comments on Classmates

LTS 2 would not have been as fun as it was if it wasn‘t for all my classmates. I mean I was glad
there was a lot of noisy students with me in this class because those students are actually the fun ones to
be with and they make the class as lively as possible. Even the most boring parts of the class can be made
fun with just one student making a hilarious comment and the whole class would just be alive again. I just
wish all of my class were like this class.

During my short stint of being around my classmates, I can really say that a lot of them are
leadership their own ways. In my organization, leadership is one of our three core values so I know a leader
when I see one and I see a lot sitting around me during the class. I really commend them because they took
a lot of pressure off our backs and they led us very well.

vi.Highlights of LTS 2

For me, the highlights of LTS 2 has got to be the fun games that we play every day before the
class starts and of course the field work that we did last May 5. The games we play during class really
lightened up the mood of the class and make the impression that another day of fun starts. Also, we get to
know a little something about our classmates every time we engage in a game or activity. This may be just
for fun but it really helped give the class a fun atmosphere.

And of course the field work was the biggest highlight of the whole LTS because this served as the
culminating activity that summed it all up and we got to practice what we have learned all summer long. I
also enjoyed the last activity we did during the field work which was when we wrote our messages to our
fellow classmates. We got to say the things we had to say to everyone. All in all, I think I can speak for
myself when I say that we all had fun this summer because of LTS 2.

vii.Most important lessons learned from LTS 2

There are a lot of things that I learned and attitudes that I developed during my time in LTS.
However, the one thing that really stood out for me is to just be true to who you are and be open to others.
First of all, LTS is not about getting a high grade, it is more about developing certain skills as a person and
learning how to deal and work with other people. Group works are a big part of LTS so having an open mind
and developing great communication skills are needed.

Being a team player is also a big plus. Also, you should be able to accept your strengths and
weaknesses for the betterment of the whole team. Like for example, you are not comfortable in doing a
certain task that is assigned to you. It would be better to tell that to your groupmates and ask for their help
rather do a mediocre job and get blamed in the end. So communication really is needed in LTS and it will
surely be developed as you go along the different activities in class.

viii.Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

Honestly, I did not have any problem during the whole LTS 2. I don‘t why, maybe I got lucky with
my committees and I was not put in a situation where we were so busy that there were no issues or conflicts
that occurred. I know this was not the case for my other classmates, so I was fortunate that this is happened
to me.

For recommendations, I think it would be better if every day there were organized objectives that
we will follow throughout the class just to make the class look organized. Sometimes it seems that we do not
have a definite thing to do for the day. But other than that, I really enjoyed my time in LTS 2 and this was
really a memorable summer.
ix.Field work Proper

And then the day of the field work came and everyone was pumped up to participate and do their
tasks for the whole day. But all the anticipation was turned into dismay due to some unexpected events. The
expected number of participants was as high as 16, however only 5 people showed up and of course that
raised a lot of eyebrows and emotions ran high. Of course that was disappointing given that everyone
prepared a whole lot and to know that some of the participants were not true to their word.

But for me, given that I am a true optimistic, I still saw the positives from what happened. First, we
still managed to overcome those initial emotions and reactions and were still able to do and finish the day on
a positive note. In sort, we overcame the adversities. Second, because of the lack of participants, 3 LTS
students had to join the team building. I saw this as a positive because two out of these three were not able
to join the class‘ team building so they were given the chance to participate. And last, less participants
means more food for us. That is pretty good, right?

x.Committee Work

Finance committee. Even from the start, this was the committee I had my eye on. I don‘t know, I
just like the responsibilities of it, even in my organization I always want to be part of the finance department.
In the finance committee, we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs especially when Julio shares his outrageous
ideas about the food we should serve or how we should serve it. That definitely made our meetings very
stress free and light but we still managed to come up with useful ideas and finish our tasks.

The only comment that I have is that our committee actually became a food committee rather than
a finance committee. However, that did not affect my performance in my committee. I was still having fun
and always wanted to help because I got into the committee that I wanted in the first place. I would have
never chosen finance if I did not want to be a part of it. And now I know I made the right decision.
VALDEZ, Abigail

i.Team Building Activity

I never thought in my life that NSTP 2 (LTS 2) would be this fun. We started our day with a team
building activity, it‘s April 15, 2013. The first game was pass the message. Everyone was very excited to
play. I was nervous at first but eventually I started liking the game. My team mates and I were very tense
upon passing the message person to person. We were worried that the message we were passing might
change and be transformed to another message.

Even if our team was the slowest to pass the message, our team translated it slightly correct. The
first message was the second stanza of UP Naming Mahal. The second message was different countries
and the last message was a picture. I think that the last message was the most complicated for the person
should describe what he saw on the picture. We got 5 points in total in the end of the game.

The outcome of the game resulted on the coming out of our cooperation, competence and
communication. Without those three words we cannot perform the game properly. We cannot pass the
message clearly without good communication. We will not move faster if we were not competitive enough.

The second game was ( ung may upuan, palagay nlng ung totoong pangalan ng laro. Diko maalala
e). This game was one of my most embarrassing games I ever had. While we were arranging ourselves to fit
on the chair we need to act our chosen moves. We never thought that the moves and tune that we have
chosen were the ones we need to act later. The game was fun yet very humiliating.

The game (ung may upuan) implicit the thought of collective leadership, cooperation and culture of
concern. Collective leadership means that everyone‘s ideas and opinions were absorbed. Not only one
thinks for the whole team. Everyone was the leader. We think about our strategies all together. We all
participated, we all made fun of ourselves while we were winking and moving our shoulders. Some of us
were sitting on the chair while my other team mates were on the floor, legs on the chair.

Everybody expressed their culture of concern. The boys on our team were gentlemen enough, they
never let us girls sat on the floor as long as they can endure the difficulty of sitting while their feet were on
the chair. But some rounds, for the sake of fairness, we girls join the boys on the floor.

The last game that we played was the Tower. The mechanics is to put whatever we have to build a
tower. My classmates considered to have our bags so we can build a tall enough tower. At first it didn‘t work
but after some other trials to fix it we got the best fit for our bags and the tower was build tough and strong.
Even if ma‘am Lutero put her bag on the top of our tower, our tower shakes a little but never fell down.

ii.Module writing
To start our day, as usual, we played a game. The game was named ―one knot, two knots.‖ It was a
very tensing game. The rule was do not let the two handkerchiefs fall into you at the same time. If you were
by chance caught with the two handkerchiefs at the same time, you were dead and you will be put to the
drug team. And because Jeremy is a good friend, he let me die. And because of that, I was one of the drug
team members. I was so disappointed, if I had a chance I don‘t want to be on the drug team. I‘ am not a lazy
person but if I were given a chance to decide to which group I can be with, I want to be on the teambuilding
team. I want to have fun thinking about what game we should play.

While I dislike being on that team, nevertheless I agreed. I have no choice but to accept the
responsibility. Our meeting that night went well. I was chosen to do some parts of the input in the company
of Reina and Robin. Scarlet and Juan Luna did the skit, king said he can handle the games, it was called
paint me a scene, and Kits is the lecturer. I chose to do the research about the depressants. It was not
difficult as I expected to be on the drug team. I found many articles about depressants so it took me quite a
while to finish editing. I hope that our module is not that boring.

iii.Fieldwork Workshop Proper

As usual we played a game before we start the discussion. We played Pinoy Henyo. Ate mica was
the first to guess. She needs to guess ―Pusong Bato‖ of king. It takes her a while yet she had really no idea
of Pusong bato. She failed to answer. The next to guess was Reina. She needed to guess ―Bahay Baboy
Bagyo‖. The pinapahulaan (diko alam english. Haha) is too difficult even for me. She also failed to answer
the question too. The last participant is Kits. I don‘t comprehend what the pinapahulaan was. I don‘t enjoy
that game as I enjoy the other games.

After the game, ma‘am Lutero grouped us by workloads/tasks. And then she realized that some of
us were just chitchatting and she requested that we should start the photo shoot. When we were outside, we
were arguing on where we should take our pictures and ten finally we have decided to take pictures on the
side of SU building.

Reina and Char tried to take some pictures to get the best place to take our pictures on. Then the
program committee, I‘m on it, decided to take our picture while sitting on the grass. We also take some
pictures on the stairs near the river. After when we‘re finished, I went to my second class and I just realized
when I was on the bathroom that I forgot to say goodbye to ma‘am Destiny.

iv.Comments on other Activities Done in Class

No one will ever want to be late if their punishment is to sing in front of the class. Ma‘am Destiny
called her punishment ―Power Trip‖. If you got dead on a game, her punishment will apply too or if my
classmates were just that obstreperous and just want to make fun of you. They do whatever they want. But
even if my classmates are like that, I find them very entertaining.
When we played a game, there was a little chance that I would not get dead. There was a time
when we played Evolution, I was not listening very carefully and my mind was somewhere flying, every time
that it‘s my turn I always panicked I don‘t know what to choose from paper, scissor or stone. And yes, I was
one of those who were left with no partner. And because of that I need to do the punishment. But that day
she can‘t push me to perform, so she told me that I need to do it on the next meeting. I was so relieved that
time. These were other activities that I can recall that we have done in class.

v.Comments on classmates

I have no problems on my classmates. Actually I like them a lot. I always had fun whenever they‘re
around. They‘re kind; some were too shy I guess, I consider myself as slightly shy.

I consider Reina as the most boisterous of all my classmates, she always have a comment to
everything. Yes, she‘s noisy but I like her a lot. I also like her friend Char. She‘s nice and friendly, actually all
of them. One of the boys that have been closer to me aside from Jeremy is Robin. Reina always made an
issue between robin and me but I just consider Robin only as a good friend. I think about Kits as a leader
kind of person material. If only he have no heavy personal problems, I guess this summer class would be
much more fantastic. For Nessa, I find her very cool, and as a leader she‘s very perfectionist. (eto lang ung
tumatak na mga tao sakin)

I found new friends in the person of these people, my very good and wonderful classmates. Even
though we have different mind-sets, when we were together everything goes well. I‘m hoping to be with them
longer. I want to spend more days making fun with each of other.

vi.Highlights of LTS2 and Most Important lessons learned

I think the highlights of LTS2 and the one of the most important lessons learned are the 7 Cs. It‘s
not just that we learn the meaning of these 7 Cs but rather we learn to perform it on our individual lives. We
learned to cooperate and communicate well to meet our clear and common goal.

I never knew that in simple things we did when we have an activity, we were performing these 7 Cs.
It‘s important when performing a task or whatever activity it is because without a doubt, chaos will arise if
one of these Cs was gone and as a result we cannot achieve and execute properly our objectives and goals.

vii.Problems encountered and solutions/recommendations

At first our biggest problem was how to make a module for CWTS2 students but ma‘am Destiny
made a move to change our goal for this summer. And yes, she succeeded. We were going to make a one
day program for SKs and gave them a lecture about drugs.
When we were conducting our meeting on drugs, I was one of the members of the drug team, all
was going smoothly as planned. But when the time of fieldwork proper came and Kits started his lecture,
which was just the time that we recognize that his lecture has deficiencies. The topics that were very
important that should be there in his lecture were not there. If the left behind topics will not be discussed, our
deepening game will also not pursue. Thanks to Reina, she saved our lecture. Thanks also to Tabi, she has
a back up file. But sorry for Juan Luna, his script for Sine Mo To was not used.

We also didn‘t expect that only 5 participants will came. We were not informed earlier that many of
the SKs cannot come. But we made remedies; to have two teams for the team building ma‘am Destiny
picked me, Marco and Mica to join the second team. And everything was resolved.

viii.Fieldwork proper and committee work.

Since we have only 5 participants, everyone needs to adjust. We were all shocked but we can‘t do
anything about it. We welcomed them whole heartedly and introduced ourselves one by one, they did the
same too. We need four participants for each team to be fair and since we have 5 participants one of them
needs to join our team. Math joined our team.

We all enjoyed the team building. My team Hello Champion was very competitive. We were all
serious while playing but at the same time we were enjoying. We won, as expected (I ‗am laughing while
typing this). We got 2 hellos each for our prize.

The food was great. Thanks to the people behind the finance committee. No one got hungry. I
regretted to have my breakfast at home. I thought the finance committee did not prepare breakfast for us.

All in all, the SKs had fun and we, students of LTS2, also had fun. We disseminate something
useful to the SKs and at the same time we made friends to them. Another milestone for every one of us.
VASQUEZ, Jemisa Claire D.

i. Team Building Activity

Collective leadership, cooperation and collaborative climate, culture of concern, communication,


clear and common goal, competence and commitment. These were the 7 Cs I was able to learn during our
second day in my LTS class. Ma'am Destiny Lutero, our facilitator, prepared some games which included
Pass the Message, Tower, and that game which I forgot the title but included objectives like several
members cheering and dancing while on two chairs. Ma'am Des was able to deliberate the lessons behind
those games and the 7 Cs were involved of course. We were grouped into three namely Team G, Team I,
and Team Joe. Sounds familiar?

After those games, I had this realization that my summer would probably be one of the best ELBI
summers ever. And Ma'am Des and my classmates didn't fail me. This is to be discussed further later in this
journal. On the other hand, during the next days of my LTS class, Ma'am Des delivered to us that our LTS
class is the one assigned in making brochures needed by the CWTS class. That was a bad news for me
since I expected that we are going to teach or at least impart some ideas to someone by speaking and not
only by making brochures. However, due to some demands from our class, Ma'am Des tried to find some
participants from the SK members in Brgy. Batong Malake, Los Banos, Laguna. With so much luck, she was
able to find some interested SKs to be a part of a team-building activity and lecture series about Drugs.

After meetings and coordination, we were able to finally device a plan about our upcoming fieldwork
to be held on the 5th of May 2013, Sunday. Groups and committees were formed and I was able to be a part
of Station Four Group and Logistics Committee. In these teams, the lessons we have learned from our Team
Building Activity are to be applied.

ii. Module Writing

My Station Four Group was composed of me, K, Chelo, Allison, and Munchkin. The Cs that were
assigned to our station included Cooperation and Collaborative Climate, and Culture of Concern. During our
first meeting, we were able to plan the game for our station and how are we going to deliver our Cs using
that game. We then wrote our plan in the module our teacher appointed us doing.

The module is basically formatted from the ADIDS strategy and is consisted of the game, objectives
and mechanics of the game, and especially the way we are going to discuss the Cs. It is really difficult to
plan and to put up the discussion on a paper. But then we thought of raising up some questions that are
going to be answered by the participants so as to be able to point out and impart our knowledge about
Cooperation and Collaborative Climate, and Culture of Concern.
iii. Fieldwork Workshop Proper

During our Fieldwork Workshop days, our Station Group wasn't able to perform a demo in the class
but we thought that our game, the one which has "strings attached to two trees which became like a web", is
actually feasible and not impossible to do. Besides, Chelo already played that game during her Team
Building Activity in her organization.

On the other hand, the Logistics Committee was able to do a lot of tasks inside and outside the
classroom and that includes the Puzzle Making. I was able to draw this cute little minions on an illustration
board but then, King and Munchkin were a lot better than me. Time was up and I needed to go to my next
class so Nessa volunteered herself to continue what I started. She, then, colored and cut everything. She
was really this responsible.

iv. Comments on other activities in class

Other activities in class in class included performing in class when a certain person is late or just
simply a game before the appointed activity for the day. Things went the way I wanted it. I was never late nor
"madaldal/maingay" in class, but then because of some unexplainable (probably they had nothing to do)
reasons, my own committee and Ma'am Des made me sing in front of the class. I was really nervous during
that time but then I realized this was the only class which had the chance to hear my terrible voice. The
funny thing is, I honestly think they are lucky. Aside from that, I think Ma'am Des had her own way of letting
a student come our from his/her shell. Confidence is all what it takes in the real world, they say.

v. Comments On Classmates

This would probably be very long if I'd talk about them one by one but all I can say is that this LTS 2
class is like a giant bowl of fruit salad. One of us can be the apple or the banana or the milk. But when we
are in this classroom, we are one. Like the fruit salad in a bowl.

vi. Highlights of LTS 2

The highlight of my LTS 2 was when we are already in the fieldwork. Aside from it being the main
event, I think we were able to apply all the things that we learned from the Team Building Activity. This was
also when problems were encountered and solutions were offered. Friendships were also tested with trials
but then we made it through.
vii. Most Important Lessons Learned From LTS 2

I learned a lot of lessons from my LTS 2 class. That includes patience and hardwork and being
confident in what you do. My patience was tested during the time when I was waiting for the powerpoint I
was assigned to put designs and pictures into. I was also able to put all my hardwork in doing the modules,
preparing the stations, and doing those assigned tasks in my committee. On the other hand, I was able to
bring the confidence in me when I was able to sing in front of the class.

Aside from those, I think the 7 Cs are included in those most important lessons. Yes, we were able
to enumerate them. Yes, we were able to apply them in the Fieldwork. I think the important thing now is
"Yes, we are able to keep them in our pockets to remind us the we needed them in other team activities in
the next semesters/chapters of our life.".

viii. Problems Encountered & Solutions

One of the problems encountered that I can clearly remember now was when we received the news
that there were only 5 SK participants joining the activity. We prepared everything and yet, there were only 5
instead of 25. We became really professional about this and still push everything for the day. I just wanted to
recommend in the next classes of LTS 2 that do not overlook some things. They must recheck the number of
participants and make the participants stick to their commitments.

Next problem is that we haven't really ask each others current situations and problems. I think it is
better if the members know each other members a lot, especially when they have problems so everyone can
adjust the tasks.

ix. Fieldwork Proper

We were ready. Everything were settled. At least, we thought all are going to be fine, smooth, and
the way it should be. Maybe because we have overlooked some of the things about the field work and that
may include the possible number of SK participants that will join. Ma'am Des was our coordinator to the SK
participants and she gathered 20-25 people who agreed and made a commitment that they are going to
come on the 5th of May, 2013. On the day of the fieldwork, we accepted the news or should I say dilemma
that there were only 5 SK participants coming. Our initial reaction was to get sad and angry at the same time
but then, we realized that we should be professional and we must continue whatever we have started weeks
before that day. While waiting for the participants (There were only 5 SKs and they were very late.), we
watched this morbid and horror movie my classmate, Kim, let us watched. However, after some gruesome
scenes, we decided to watch The Lion King instead.

In the morning, I wasn't able to do my task for the Logistics Committee because there were only 2
groups of participants and I was assigned to be the one guiding the 3rd group in the stations. Since there
was no 3rd group, I became a facilitator of my station instead. Allison, Chelo, and K were my station-mates
and we were able to build a certain bonding while we were prepping our station. Here came the two groups,
one which was composed of SK members, and the other one consisted of LTS people who were not able to
join the team building on our second meeting. We were able to discuss our mechanics well enough and
most especially our Cs which were Cooperation and Collaborative Climate, and Culture of Concern.

During lunch break, I was surprised of how the food was great. It became more delicious when I
realized I was having this together with my awesome LTS classmates. I was so full after that day.

In the afternoon, the lecture about Drugs was pushed. Kits probably wasn't able to pull off his best
that is why the lecture was kind of disturbing for me or at least, for some of my classmates. On the bright
side, it seemed that the SK participants learned some lessons from the lecture and that was the most
important thing, I think. After the lecture, King announced about a game which involved facepainting. My
mind reaction was "Yeeey! Facepainting" and the other 2 SK participants pointed me to be their other
member to make them three out of three. We were able to paint on each other faces a drug-user, maybe
stimulant-user, or depressant-user, or hallucinogen-user face might be. It was totally fun and I think the
participants did their best. I was glad to be a part of it.

The day ended with smiles and tears during the awarding and debriefing meeting. The meeting was
so transparent and sincere and everyone was honest in sharing everything about what happened in the
fieldwork.

x. Committee

Logistics was the committee I was able to be a part of. Prior to that, my original plan was to be in
Finance Committee but unfortunately, they only needed five members so I chose not to join instead. The
tasks assigned for the Logistics was to handle anything physical/tangible that is needed for the fieldwork and
to keep the fieldwork venue clean and order. Of course, we were previously introduced to each other so I
knew that my committee groupmates were Nessa, Chelo, Jerome, King, MRV, Robin and Munchkin. I
thought that since we are numerous, it probably would go the way it should - fun and exciting. Nessa was
like the glue of the group. She kept us posted with anything happening about preparations and such. With
that, we have decided to vote her as our committee leader and she proved to us that she has got all what it
takes to be the one. Chelo became my friend since we are in the Logistics committee and at the same time,
we belong in the same group station. Moreover, I became good friends with the boys as well. All since
because they made me sing "By Chance (You and I)" in front of the class.

We had our meeting on the first day already to be able to list down all the things needed and which
tasks are to be assigned to whom. All which are technical are the ones we talked about. It was a productive
meeting, I believe, since we tackled all about the responsibilities. On the other hand, the photoshoot was like
the match which ignited the "kakulitan" inside all of us. Our committee decided to do facepainting which was
fun and creative. Too bad I had PE class so went off early from the photoshoot. Our next committee
meetings included puzzle making in which I was able to draw "minions from Despicable Me on an illustration
board, buying of materials, and more.

During the workfield proper, we are very much prepared with the tasks we were designated into.
We did our best effort into many things probably including those which were not appointed to us.
VEJANO, Mark Raymond A.

i. Teambuilding activity

I liked the team-building activity. Through the games that we shared as groups, I got to know my
classmates better, not just by their faces but also their names and somehow their characteristics that stand
out the most. As groupmates, we had to talk to each other to strategize in every game, and that helped me
in communicating with them for the rest of the NSTP 2 sessions.

There were lots of things that I have learned in that one-day activity. In the first activity, entitled
―Pass the Message,‖ I had a self-assessment of how I trust myself that I can do the tasks given to me,
specifically transmitting information to others efficiently. But the most striking lesson for me here is when we
were reminded by Ma‘am Destiny about an important rule stated from the very beginning: each group should
have at least five (5) points in the game. We learned that as a class, we should act as a whole and there
should not be any competitions here.

In the next game, a specific number of people from the group were asked to occupy two chairs in
such a way that all body parts cannot touch the floor, with the butt as the exemption. Simultaneously, each
group had to do their chants. This game taught me that sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the
benefit of the whole group.

The last game, which was the Tower Building, included all of us in the class. The goal was to make
a strong and stable tower that can withstand harsh conditions. We came up with a pyramid structure: as the
tower went higher, the number of bags decreased. A strong tower should have a strong foundation for it to
withstand any stresses applied to it. All of us had insights of their own, and summing up, even though we
were unique in our own ways, there should be unity among us.

ii.Module writing

Our small group was assigned to make an activity that will portray communication and clear &
common goal.

One thing that I appreciated from my groupmates was they were open for ideas. Each one shared
his or her own suggestion about the best game for the topic. We had an organized way of deciding which
game is best suited and well represents the two (2) C‘s. We didn‘t just settle for ―majority wins.‖ Each of us
explained his or her chosen game: how it well represents the two (2) C‘s and its convenience when it comes
to time, setting and resources. Also, each one had something to say about the games of the others, like if a
particular game lacks communication or if the goal of each hypothetical player is not unified at all.

In the end, we chose the game where all the members, except the leader, will be blindfolded. The
leader, which is ironically situated in the back, leads the group by instructing them what particular moves
they will take to pass through a maze without destroying the obstacles. It really represented the importance
of communication, and in pursuing the goal, the leader is not a boss but just a guide to everyone to have a
clear and common goal.

iii.Fieldwork Workshop Proper

At first we were all excited to meet the supposed-to-be sixteen (16) participants of the event. We
prepared the stations very early so we can finish them on time. Everyone was so eager, but after several
hours of waiting, we got bored.

All of us were shocked with what we heard: there are only five (5) participants who will be attending
the event. Some poured out their negative emotions like disappointments and anger. Some just showed sad
expressions. I was also guilty of doing the same, but I learned that in times like those, even if the participants
were still not present, we should be professional on how we act, especially that we are LTS 2 students.

I thought, ―We should‘ve prepared Plan B,‖ but everyone was flexible and wise to do a planning on
the spot. We decided to put all the participants in one group, while another group with five members will be
coming from us.

Thankfully, even though the event didn‘t turn out like what we had expected, the participants and
the facilitators made the most out of the day. We really had fun. We hope we imposed in them the
importance of the seven C‘s and the impact of drugs in our society.

After that, we had a meeting. We had the chance to say positive and negative remarks towards
LTS 2, our faculty-in-charge, the committees, our classmates and the fieldwork in general. But summing it
up, LTS 2, for me, is an experience I will never forget!

iv.Comments on other Activities Done in Class

I really like the approach of the LTS 2 offered this summer.

The students were really motivated by the games done everyday. Either someone will suggest the
game for the day or some people, most especially the late-comers, will show a talent in front of the class. I
believe pausing for a while and having fun is the best way to a student‘s heart, especially if the discussion is
causing them ―information overload.‖ But the teacher shall see to it that the amount of discussions is not
compromised because of these. Also, this punishment disguised in a talent portion is a great way to
discipline the students in being punctual, since not all is stage-loving.

I also liked the First-Aid Training, because I believe that being students does not mean we cannot
be useful in times of emergencies that need immediate actions. I wanted to learn more, but the time was
very limited. Though the instructors offered us an access to more knowledge about it outside class hours,
which was great.
I really wanted to experience teaching children how to read and write, and I was a little
disappointed when I learned that this summer, the LTS 2 students were in-charge of making the materials
needed by the CWTS2 students in their ―Bantay-Buntis‖ project. But I really appreciated the efforts of our
faculty-in-charge for finding an opportunity for us to fulfill the true roles of LTS students: to educate. We got a
chance to teach, though not little children but SK members from the Batong Malake. It was surely a
worthwhile experience.

v.Comments on classmates

I got to know my classmates extensively in just one month.

I really enjoyed being with them. Though we were really different in so many ways, the section H
will not be complete even with just one student missing.

Some were very loquacious, while some were very silent. Some are energetic in the games, while
some needed to stay on their seats due to their medical conditions. But when it comes to brainstorming and
suggesting, almost all had something to say.

I was very comfortable with them; they are friends to me. I know this was not an accident that I
chose LTS 2 and that I met them, and surely if by chance I encounter them on the way in the next few
semesters, I will greet them with a big and warm smile!

vi.Highlights of LTS 2

I believe that one of the most important things that we have done in class was the ―getting to know
each other‖ portion. Since we will be together for a month as one class, it was crucial to know them not just
by the face and name but also what lies deep within them.

I will also have to include the games and talent portions. It decreased my fear being in front of
many people, and I hope it was the same for everyone. Aside from having fun in class, these things created
bonds between us. We are more than classmates now; we are friends, and I know I‘m not being
presumptuous when I say that.

The last ones were the workshop and the fieldwork itself. All the things that we learned from LTS 2
were incorporated there, hands-on. Though there were little flaws in the making of materials and the actual
event, the important thing was that we were still united until the very end. It is a lesson I will never forget.

vii.Most important lessons learned in LTS 2

One of the most important things that I learned in LTS 2 is the significance of friendship. Though we
can say that the concept of friendship is a very personal one, I believe that we couldn‘t have fulfilled the goal
of LTS 2 excellently if we see each other as just mere classmates. I am very thankful that I had such
wonderful friends and faculty-in-charge this semester.

Also, LTS 2 will not be complete without the C‘s that we have learned: communication, clear &
common goal, collective leadership, collaborative climate, culture of concern, cooperation, competence and
commitment. All these things are very crucial in every group that we belong to.

Lastly, I learned the importance of patience and understanding. Our faculty-in-charge always tells
us during class that we should consider the situation of others, like we are the ones who are having
difficulties. We may not know the real reason why the other participants didn‘t show up in the event, but the
important thing is that there were still five who were committed and attended the event.

viii.Problems encountered and solutions/ recommendations

There were times that the important things to be discussed were compromised because the
students wanted to enjoy too much by having games and talent portions. My recommendation for this is that
the faculty-in-charge should be a little stricter in imposing the objectives for the day. Games and fun stuff can
be saved for later. Though I do not recommend that the teacher should be too strict. It will be a hindrance in
establishing a healthy teacher-student relationship.

Another problem was that the delegation of work was not properly done. Some took responsibilities
which were too much for them. As LTS students, we should have the initiatives to do some tasks if we know
that we are capable of doing them, or at least ask others for assistance if only one person doing the job is
highly unattainable.

The last one was the decrease in number of the expected participants in the fieldwork. But because
everyone proved themselves to be flexible at times like those, the event turned out great.
