Most people associate learning with formal education at school, college,

university etc.  We are all told, from an early age, that we should ‘get a good
education’.
Generally speaking it is true that a formal education and the resulting
qualifications are important. Education may maximise our potential to find better,
more satisfying jobs, earn more and, perhaps, become more successful in our
chosen career.
However, ‘schooling’ is only one type of learning. There are many other
opportunities to further your knowledge and develop the skills you need
throughout life.
Knowledge can be acquired and skill-sets developed anywhere – learning is
unavoidable and happens all the time. However, lifelong learning is about creating
and maintaining a positive attitude to learning both for personal and professional
development.
Lifelong learners are motivated to learn and develop because they want to: it
is a deliberate and voluntary act.
Lifelong learning can enhance our understanding of the world around us,
provide us with more and better opportunities and improve our quality of life.
There are two main reasons for learning throughout life: for personal
development and for professional development.  These reasons may not
necessarily be distinct as personal development can improve your employment
opportunities and professional development can enable personal growth.
Learning for its own sake brings its own advantages. For example, learning in
whatever context:
Boosts our confidence and self-esteem
Makes us less risk averse and more adaptable to change when it happens
Helps us achieve a more satisfying personal life
Challenges our ideas and beliefs
Can be fun
There is a common view that continuous learning and having an active mind
throughout life may delay or halt the progress of some forms of dementia, although
there is actually very little scientific evidence to support these claims. However,
keeping the brain active does have advantages since learning can prevent you from
becoming bored and thus enable a more fulfilling life at any age.
There are, of course, many reasons why people learn for personal development.
 
You may want to increase your knowledge or skills around a particular hobby or
pastime that you enjoy.
Perhaps you want to develop some entirely new skill that will in some way
enhance your life – take a pottery or car mechanic course for example.
Perhaps you want to research a medical condition or your ancestry.
Perhaps you’re planning a trip and want to learn more about the history and culture
of your destination.
Maybe you will decide to take a degree course later in life simply because you
enjoy your chosen subject and the challenges of academic study.
Lifelong learning requires self-motivation. You need to feel positive about learning
and about your ability to learn. If you struggle to see the point of learning what you
are learning, you are unlikely to do well.
Effective learning requires that you acquire information through reading, listening,
observing, practising, experimenting and experience. Information is all around
you: the trick is to acquire relevant and meaningful information and develop this
into knowledge and skills.
Learning is successful when we can search for a personal meaning in the
information we’re acquiring. We find it hard to remember facts without
understanding them or being able to put them into context.
You should regularly examine your knowledge to help reinforce in your mind what
you have learned.  You should always try to keep an open-mind, question your
understanding and be open to new information.
Talking to others and seeing their point of view can be a powerful way of
examining your own perception and understanding of a subject.
Reflect
Finally, you should reflect on your learning. Think about how and why you
learned, including how you felt about a particular topic or situation, before and
after you developed your knowledge.
Learn from your mistakes as well as from your successes and always try to remain
positive
Effects of Shopping Addiction Shopping is a necessary part of life. We shop for
food, clothing, cars, homes, or anything that may be a necessity to survive. If
shopping is necessary, how can it also be an addiction? Oniomania (compulsive
shopping, or what's more commonly referred to as shopping addiction) is perhaps
the most socially acceptable addiction. Think about it: We are surrounded by
advertising that tells us that buying will make us happy. We are encouraged by
politicians to spend as a way of boosting the economy. And, for some of us, there
is an allure of wanting what everyone else seems to have. Consumerism, by our
own intentions or not (or some combination), has become a measure of social
worth.

Shopping addiction is a behavioral addiction that involves compulsive buying as a


way to feel good and avoid negative feelings, such as anxiety and depression. Like
other behavioral addictions, shopping addiction can take over as a preoccupation
that leads to problems in other areas of your life.1
Almost everyone shops to some degree, but only about 6 percent of the U.S.
population is thought to have a shopping addiction.
Usually beginning in one's late teens and early adulthood, shopping addiction often
co-occurs with other disorders, including mood and anxiety disorders, substance
use disorders, eating disorders, other impulse control disorders, and personality
disorders.2 Some people develop shopping addiction as a way to try and boost
their self-esteem, although it doesn't tend to be very effective for this.
5 Things to Know About Shopping Addiction

1. Although widespread consumerism has escalated in recent years, shopping


addiction is not a new disorder. It was recognized as far back as the early
nineteenth century and was cited as a psychiatric disorder in the early
twentieth century.3
2. Despite its long history, shopping addiction is controversial, and experts, as
well as the public, disagree about whether shopping addiction is a real
addiction.4
3. People who struggle with shopping addiction typically spend more time and
money on shopping than they can afford, and many get into financial
problems as a result of their overspending.
4. Shopping addiction can involve both impulsive and compulsive spending,
which produce a temporary high. That said, people who are addicted to
shopping are often left feeling empty and unsatisfied with their purchases
when they get home.5
5. As with other addictions, shopping addiction is usually a way of coping with
the emotional pain and difficulty of life, and it tends to make things worse
rather than better for the shopper.

Normal Shopping vs. Shopping Addiction


So what is the difference between normal shopping, occasional splurges, and
shopping addiction? As with all addictions, what sets shopping addiction apart
from other types of shopping is that the behavior becomes the person’s main way
of coping with stress,6 to the point where they continue to shop excessively even
when it is clearly having a negative impact on other areas of their life. As with
other addictions, money problems can develop and relationships can become
damaged, yet people with shopping addiction (sometimes called "shopaholics")
feel unable to stop or even control their spending.
This difficulty in controlling the desire to shop emerges from a personality pattern
that shopaholics share, and that differentiates them from most other people. Often
low in self-esteem,7 they are easily influenced, and are often kindhearted,
sympathetic, and polite to others, although they are often lonely and
isolated. Shopping gives them a way to seek out contact with others.
People with shopping addiction tend to be more materialistic than other shoppers
and try to prop themselves up by seeking status through material objects and
seeking approval from others. They engage in fantasy more than other people, and
—as with other people with addictions—have a hard time resisting their impulses.

Fashion refers to anything that becomes a rage among the masses.

something that is in vogue. Fashion appears in clothing, footwear,
accessories, makeup, hairstyles, lifestyle, and body proportions.
Furthermore, Fashion is an industry-supported expression. In the
contemporary world, people take fashion very seriously. Fashion is
something that has permeated every aspect of human culture.
