Title SIOP Lesson Prep & Building Background

Summary of the Lesson In this lesson, students will learn about the SIOP
model in regards to lesson preparation and building
background knowledge. The students will watch
videos, complete a KWL chart at the beginning and
end of the lesson, and well as play kahoot.

Objectives Students will be able to:
● Classify characteristics of SIOP lesson
preparation and building background.
● Identify what SIOP stands for.
● Formulate responses to questions posed about
SIOP.

Estimated Time 45-55 minutes

Materials Required computer, handouts of KWL chart, handouts of


vocabulary list
Procedure BEFORE:
● Anticipatory Set: The teacher will have the
students complete a KWL chart for SIOP,
specifically the sections about what the
students know and what they would like to
learn, provided by the teacher. The teacher will
then randomly call on several students to say
one idea that they put on their chart.

● Preview objectives: Our objectives for this


lesson are (teacher points to board): Students
will: 1) classify characteristics of SIOP lesson
preparation and building background; 2) identify
what SIOP stands for; 3) Formulate responses to
questions posed about SIOP.

DURING:

● The teacher will present the information


displayed within the slideshow and play the
corresponding videos.

AFTER:

● Formative Assessment: Students will complete


the KWL worksheet, specifically the section
about what they have learned, provided by the
teacher. After, students will play Kahoot.

● Closing statement: During this lesson, our class


learned about the SIOP model in regards to
lesson preparation and background knowledge.
Everyone did a great job today!

Formative Assessment Formative assessment will be conducted during After


segment (see above). Students will independently
complete the KWL worksheet and kahoot provided by
the teacher.
