1 INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY/NIGHT 1

Mat is being read to from his mother.

Then they hear a knock.

MAT
I'll see who that is.

MOTHER
Alright

Mother sets down the book. Mat runs to the door when it opens
and in walks his uncle.

2 INT. AT FRONT DOOR - DAY/NIGHT 2

MAT
(exuberantly)
Uncle!

He runs to the door and gives his uncle a big hug.

UNCLE
(bends down to return the hug)
Well, well, how are you doing? Where's
Tessa?

MAT
She's sleep'in.
(or nap)

UNCLE
To bad. Anyway, I have something for
you. Guess what it is.

MAT
(eagerly)
A puppy!

UNCLE
(laughs)
Nope!

MAT
(slightly disappointed but still
excited)
Ah! A toy!

UNCLE
(starts rustling something in his
pocket)
Wrong again!

MAT
Something to eat!

UNCLE
Your' getting there.

He pulls out two candy sticks and hands them to Mat.

MAT
Golly!! Thanks!!

3 INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY/NIGHT 3

Mat runs to his mother.

MAT
Mama look.
(starts eating one stick)

MOTHER
I see. Aren't you going to save one
for Tessa?

MAT
(quietly, looking down)
No. I don't believe candy sticks are
good for little girls. 'Sides, I want
it myself.

Mat eats both of the sticks. His Uncle walks into the living
room.

UNCLE
My brother said I had a package here.

MOTHER
Yes, it is over here. I believe...
(voice trails off as Mother and
Uncle walk out of the room)

FADE TO:

4 INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY/NIGHT - MINUTES LATER 4

Mother and Uncle are back and are discussing.

Just as Matt finishes the last stick...

TESSA
Mama?

UNCLE
Hello! Tessa's awake!

Mother goes into the bedroom and emerges with Tessa in her
arms. She sets Tessa down.

UNCLE
(makes a great rustling in his
pocket. Bends down to Tessa.)
This is for Tessa!
(hands two candy sticks to Tessa)

Tessa takes them smiling. She looks at them and hands the
bigger one to Mat.

TESSA
Dis for 'ou and dis for me!

Mat looks down embarrassed and ashamed.

MOTHER
Take it, Mat.

Mat takes it and nibbles on it not looking at anyone. Tessa

is happily munching on hers.

UNCLE
Well, I better get going. Tell, my
brother I stopped by and got this.
(waving the package)

FADE TO:

5 INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT - HOURS LATER 5

Tessa is making her bed, because the blankets were messed up

from her nap. Mat comes in and approaches Tessa.

MAT
(apologetically)
Tessa, I won't never be such a greedy
thing any more. And I's always going
to divide with you, all the time after
this, long's I live!

Tessa looks up a little questionably, but then smiles.

TESSA
I forgives 'ou.

Mat grins and he gives her a big long hug. They are both
smiling.

FADE OUT.
