3. Course Description
This is a general course of oscillatory phenomena. The subject studied in this course are: Harmonic oscillations, coupled
oscillations. Oscillations in different media of propagation and in vacuum. Group velocity, phase velocity, energy transported by a
wave. Impedance and transmission and reflection of waves. Polarization, coherence. Optics, Interference and diffraction.

4. Course´s Contribution to professional training

This course will provide to the students the necessary knowledge to analyze and understand oscillatory phenomena of diverse
nature and their relation to concepts such as polarization, coherence, impedance, interference and diffraction.

5. Course objectives
 Comprehend the concept of waves, their characteristics and how can they be integrated into acoustic, mechanical and optical
physical phenomena.
 Understand the propagation of waves in different media (solid, gases and vacuum).
 Correlate the definition of waves into concepts such as impedance, polarization, coherence, etc.
 Understand the concept of light waves along with reflection, refraction, interference, and diffraction.

6. Course´s learning results (according to the Learning Outcomes of the Major)

The professional in physics is expected to know the fundaments of physics as a fundamental science to the development of any
technological application in science. In this sense this course will provide the tools to understand the oscillatory phenomena
present in nature.

7. Competencies that students developed in the course

 Analysis of the acquired knowledge to make questions and to communicate ideas
 Evaluate observations to make interpretations
 Apply the concepts in the resolution of basic problems and models building
 Understand the impact of the course into the current areas of interest in physics
