This document discusses the concepts of ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. It defines ethnocentrism as judging other cultures based on one's own cultural values and beliefs. During Spanish colonization, Filipinos were seen as "barbaric" for lacking buildings, fashion, religion, and technology. Even after 300 years of Spanish rule and the subsequent American rule, Filipinos were still viewed as inferior due to their appearance, education, and social status. The document then defines cultural relativism as the idea that cultures should be understood within their own contexts rather than being judged as superior or inferior. It discusses the absolute and critical categories of cultural relativism.
