Fixed gauge lengths of 5, 80, 100 and 200 mm are ‘sed; proportional gauge langths of k Sy are alsa used for lt land round test pieces, where k may be one of a number of values, Le, 4; 8.65; 8163 ond 11.3. ‘The value 5,65,V% is adopted as the internationally preferred proportional gauge length, Arising from this choice and the existence of specifications stipulating minimum percentage longations on diferent gauge, lengths. 9 growing ned has been evident for an International Standard which could be used to convert test rests into values based on the allferent gauge lengths. This pert of 10 2566 accordinaly includes tables of conversion factors, {ables of actual conversions for some of the most commonly sed gauge lengths and elongation values, and figures whieh may also be used for such conversions, When sing these con. versions, however, note should be taken of the limitations on their appicabity os stated in clause 1 While. 28 indicated, the conversions are considered to be ‘elabe within the stated tnitations, because o the veious fae {ors influencing the determination of percentage elongatons, ‘hey shel be usod for acceptance purposes anly by agreement between the customer and supplier. In cases of dsputo, tho elongation shall be determined on the ‘huge length stead in the relavant specification 1. Scope and field of application ‘This part of 180 2568 specifies a method of converting room temperature percentage elongatons after fracture obtained on various proportional and nomproportional gauge lengths 10 ther gauge lengths. The formula (see clause 4) on which conversions are based is considered to be reliable when applied to carbon, carbon ‘manganese, molybdenum ent chramium molydenum steals within the tensile sirongth range 300 12700 N/m? and in the hotolled, hot-aled and normalzed or annesled conditions, with oF without tempering, ‘These conversions are not applicable to a} cold reduced saci: Db} quenched and tempered steels ©) austenite steets, Neither should they be used where the gauge length exceeds 25/5 0° where the width to thicknaes ratio ofthe test piece exceeds 20 Care should be exercised in the ease of stip under 4 mm thickness, as the index inthe formula givan in cleuse in creases with decreasing thickneae: the valve to be used shall bee the subject of agroement betwoen the customer and the supplier, 2 Symbols In this pat of 150 2566, the symbols shown in table 1 ae use. ‘Table 1 — List of symbols Symbol Deserintion “A~_ | Peerage dovgnton on onuge length ry 4, | Percentage slongation ona terre gbuge nat, regard by conversion | Diemer of tat ove Si] Otignt cose sctonl aes oft pice 3.
