Preserve the culture of the city of Llandaff and unify the disparities between the

North and the South.
Ethos:

Project Vision: The vision of the project aims to enhance the sense of value to the site and
the wider community of Llandaff, by preserving, protecting, and re-activating
the Bishops Palace ruins. It aims to incorporate the site’s ruins in the scene by
building around them, creating structures that represent and follow the initial
form of the Palace.
We offer to design new flexible educational, performance, and arts spaces
extending from the adjacent Llandaff Cathedral School, which was once part
of the Bishops Palace. The spaces will tie together and meet the needs of the
school and the wider community. Considering the unprecedented measures
and restrictions imposed by the current global pandemic, we will aim to hold
the social activities in a safe environment, limiting unnecessary physical inter-
action.

Attitude to There is a great importance to the existing ruins on the site, our aim is to
preserve them without directly interfering with the ruin make-up. Our aim is to

aesthetics, by using contrasting colours/textures which emphasizes the charac-
ter of the ruins.

Sustainability The group’s approach to the sustainability agenda is formed around the
concept of designing for deconstruction. Further ideas include a scheme that

of a grid or a set of rules would facilitate this approach and would allow for an
easy transition for future additions. Along these sustainability matters, an aim to
meet the 2050 carbon free goal would be addressed through the use of locally
sourced, sustainable and high quality materials.

the pandemic; as well as opening bookable spaces for the general public as a
means to generate revenue by offering rental rehearsal and meeting spaces.
Secondly, providing a modular internal superstructure will be at the heart of the
proposal seeking to use vernacular off-site prefabricated materials as means to
not only reduce time and onsite costs, but a gesture to respond to the site.
Questions: - Would it be possible to expand beyond the identified site, in order to incorpo-
rate the ruins opposite the site as a wider startegic masterplan?
- Is it possible to tear down one of the parking areas and Is it feasible to design
some new roads in this area?
- Do we need to refer to legislation and acts to a large extent in the design
of the buildings. (eg. The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act
1979, The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, The
Protection of Wrecks Act 1973?
