Oral Proficiency Rubric Major Levels: ‘The speaker's performance must be maintained in every category listed to be rated at that level. S=Superior A=Advanced Task Does not demonstrate Inconsistently Demonstrates Can communicate effectively a very limited number of immediate needs, Can use isolated words and phrases that have been encountered, memorized, and recalled. Can communicate short messages on highly predictable, every day topics that affect them directly. Can be understood with some repetition, by speakers accustomed to dealing with non-native speakers. Can effectively communicate in order to satisfy simple personal needs and social demands to survive in the target language. Can produce sentence level language, ranging from discrete sentences to strings of sentences. Can ask simple questions and handle a straightforward survival situation. Can recombine learned material in order to express personal meaning, Can create with language when talking about familiar topics related to daily life. Can effectively navigate communication regarding topics of work and/or school situations. Can sustain discourse through use of the oral paragraph. Can effectively deal with a social situation with an unexpected complication, | Can effectively discuss topics concretely by means of narration and x description in the major time frames of past, present and future. Can engage in conversation in a clearly participatory manner in order x to communicate information on autobiographical topics, as well as topics of community, national, and international interest. Can be understood without difficulty by speakers unaccustomed to x dealing with non-native speakers. Can effectively navigate communication regarding topics relevant to x professional and/or scholarly life. Demonstrates no pattern of error in the use of basic structures. When x errors occur, they do not interfere with communication or distract the native speaker from the message. Uses extended discourse without unnaturally lengthy hesitation to | X make a point. Presents opinions on a number of issues of interest, such as social and x political issues, and provide structured arguments to support these opinions.
