Directions:  Express your insights about how the FIRST MASS happened. Minimum of 50

-The first mass happened because of the expedition of Magellan. One of their aim in
their expedition is to propagate Christianity. When Magellan and his crew reach Mactan
and in Antonio Pigaffeta story the first mass happened in Limasawa, while according to
Francisco Albo it is in Butuan. After the thorough research done by the historians, they
found out that, it’s held first in Limasawa. As Magellan’s decision first mass happened on
March 31, 1521 with Fr. Pedro de Valderrama as the priest. And they reconciled with
Rajah Humabon and Reyna juana both baptized as a sign of the Christian faith.

On March 31, 1521, an Easter Sunday, Magellan ordered a Mass to be celebrated which was
officiated by Father Pedro Valderrama, the Andalusion chaplain of the fleet, the only priest then.
Conducted near the shores of the island, the First Holy Mass marked the birth of Roman
Catholicism in the Philippines.
