BSCE 3-3

Corona Virus Disease of 2019 has changed our lives in many ways. It started as much
less of a real threat than it is now. For the past six months up to now, the fear of contracting
corona virus as I see each day the numbers of confirmed positive cases and deaths from
COVID-19 leads me to have stress and anxiety. This pandemic gives me enough time to
reflect on myself and understand the reality of life. It has been an eye opener for me as I
realized that spending more time at home with my whole family is not an easy task. We’ve
come to know each other more by spending every hours and every second of our lives in one
roof. We’ve faced a lot of difficulties especially in sustaining our daily necessities. Good
thing that our municipality tried to help us by giving subsidies such as rice, vegetables,
condiments and meat. I even got my monthly allowance from my scholarship and I used this
to pay our our monthly bills and buy our groceries. Since I am a Civil Engineering student,
my parents often tells me that I am their last hope. For me, it is very unfair because I am their
youngest child. I cannot put the blame to my siblings because I believe that everything
happens for a reason. To be honest, it doesn’t feel good to get a very high expectation
especially during this time. I am not that good in self studying. I am no longer the smart kid
that they have known way back on my elementary and high school days. Because of these
high expectations and various self realizations, I often experienced mental breakdown. I even
distanced myself from my friends and families especially on my social media accounts. I
become less talkative in person. Watching organizational videos on YouTube and reading
book has become my best friend during this pandemic. It is also during this time that my
relationship with God became more intact. I started to write journals that helped to understand
things that are happening in my surroundings. God thought me that it is only Him who
upholds the future.

As the online classes approach, I started to do a lot of preparations. I tried to do online

business to have an additional income and to buy my school supplies. My mother helped me
on making it possible as a sign of support. I even researched the best internet options that I
can use in online learning and decided to buy my own pocket Wi-Fi for a stable connection. I
also cleaned my room to have a pleasant environment while studying. This Academic year
may be difficult to the university, students and professors but by helping each other, we can
make it through. The near future is uncertain for all the countries in the world. But by having
faith that this virus will pass, it will pull us to through this difficult times.
