diameter; one in each corner, the column carrying load of 1000KN . Find the stress in concrete and steel
bars. Take E for steel=210 X103 N/mm2 and E for concrete=14X103 N /mm2.
(or)
11.(b) Asolid circular bar of diameter 20 mm when subjected to an axial tensile load of 40 KN,the
reduction in the diameter was observed as 6.4X 10 -3 mm.the bulk modulus of the bar is 67Gpa determine
the following; i)E ii)1/m iii)G iv)dl&dv.
12.(a) Draw the SFD & BMD.(or) 12.(b)Draw the SFD & BMD
13.(a) A hollow shaft with diameter ratio 3/5 is required to transmit 450 KW at 120 rpm. The shearing
stress must not exceed 60 N/mm2 and the twist in a length of 2.5 m is not exceed 1 0.calculate the
minimum diameter of shaft. C=80 KN/mm2.
(or)
13.(b) A closed coil helical spring of mean diameter 20 cm is made of 3 cm diameter rod and has 16
turns. A weight of 3 KN is dropped on this spring .find height by which the weight should be dropped
before striking the spring so that the spring may be compressed by 18 cm.take C=8x10 4 N/mm2.
14.(a) A beam 6m long , simply supported at its ends, iscarrying a point load of 50 KN at its Centre. The
I =78 X 106 mm4 .if E =2.1 X 105 N/ mm2 , calculate: i) deflection at the centre ii) slope at the supports.

14.(b) A beam 6m long , simply supported at its ends, is carrying a two point load of 48 KN and 40 KN
at a distance of 1m and 3m respectively from the left support. The I =85 X 106 mm4 .if E =2 X 105 N/
mm2 , calculate: i) deflection at each load ii) slope at the supports.
15.(a) A boiler is subjected to an internal steam pressure of 2 N/mm 2.the thickness of boiler plate is 2.6
cm and permissible tensile stress is 120 N/mm 2.find the maximum diameter ,when the efficiency of
longitudinal joint is 90% and that of circumference point is 40 %.
