Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this
also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking
into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
ii
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time.
You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while
being an active learner.

This is a task which aims to evaluate your
Assessment level of mastery in achieving the learning
competency.
In this portion, another activity will be given
Additional Activities to you to enrich your knowledge or skill of the
lesson learned.
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part
of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other
activities included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your
answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through
with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do
not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that
you are not alone.
iv
What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
demonstrate an understanding of concepts and underlying principles in terminating
and connecting electrical wiring and electronics circuits which will equip and enable
you to demonstrate proper termination and connection of electrical wiring and
electronics circuits.
The module is talking about this lesson:
Lesson 1 – Plan and Prepare for Termination and Connection of Electrical
Wiring/Electronic Circuits
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Select appropriate tools and equipment according to task requirements
2. Perform planned task to ensure OHS guidelines and procedure
3. Practice with safety connecting/terminating electrical wiring/electronic
circuits in accordance with instruction and work site procedures
What I Know
Direction: Read each item carefully and Write your answers in your notebook.

II. Arrange the following steps in Soldering Process. Copy each item on your notebook
and write the step number before each sentence.
Note: If you get 100% correct in this pre- assessment, skip the lesson but if not and
only get 50% to 99% correct, then proceed with the lesson.

What Is It
Electronic technicians in olden days could get along with a set of screw drivers,
long nose, side cutter and soldering pencil in troubleshooting. But now adays, with the
arrival of the new circuit technology and microcircuit is being introduced in the
industry, troubleshooting the problem is very complex.
Without the knowledge and aid of the multitester and other sophisticated
equipment such as regulated power supply, signal generator and oscilloscope,
troubleshooting is impossible. Here are the following basic tools and equipment needed
for the repair of electronics devices and appliances:

1. Long Nose Pliers – is used for holding, bending and stretching the lead of electronics
component or connecting wire. See figure no. 1.
2. Side Cutter Pliers – is used for cutting or trimming of connecting wires or terminal
leads in the circuit board. See figure no. 2.
3. Flat Screw Driver – is used to drive or fasten negative slotted screws. See figure no.
3.
4. Philips Screw Driver- is used to drive or fasten positive slotted screws. See figure no.
4.
5. Soldering Pencil – is used to join two or more metal conductors with the support of
soldering lead melted around it. See figure no. 5.
4
1. Multi-Volts Power Supply –is used to supply the desired direct current voltages in the
circuit. See figure no.9.
2. Multitester – is used for measuring resistance, voltage and current. See figure no.7.
3. Portable Electric Handrill – is used for boring hole/s in the plastics chassis or metal
chassis. See figure no.8
Soldering
Soldering is the joining of metals using a filler material of a lower melting point
than that of the parent metals to be joined. The following information will aid you in
learning basic soldering skills. It should enable you to solder wires to electrical
connectors, splices, and terminal lugs. Special skills and schooling are required for the
soldering techniques used in printed circuit boards and micro miniature component
repair.

Hand tools are of different types and can be used for any kind of work. Some
tools are versatile and some of them are specifically used for a specific job. If you want
the best results for your work, it is very important to know their construction and proper
usage. Lack of knowledge or negligence may lead to several mistakes and injuries.
Proper use and precision are more important than speed of work while using hand tools.
9
This can only be achieved satisfactorily if the medium, i.e. the solder joining the two
conducts electricity well.
What I Can
Direction: From the given Performance Score Card below, perform the Tinning
Process.
