DIVISON OF MABALACAT CITY
I. Introduction
Quadratic Equation is a representation of scenario that happen in real-
life, such as calculating the profit of business, solving the area, throwing
objects like balls, javelin and shot puts, getting the speed and the like.
In this Learning Activity Sheets, you will acquire the knowledge and
skills in solving problems involving Quadratic Equations.
III. Objectives
After going through this Learning Activity Sheets, you are expected to:
1
IV. Discussion
5. Check.
Example 1: The inclined ramp used for loading cars in a truck is 8 meters
longer than the “rise” of the ramp. The “run” is 7 meters longer
than the “rise”. How long are the three sides of the ramp?
𝑐2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑏2 run = x + 7
(𝑥 + 8)2 = 𝑥2 + (𝑥 + 7)2
Step 4: Solve the equation.
2
𝑥−5=0 𝑥+3=0 > equate each factor to 0
𝑥=5 𝑥 = −3
Since length of the side cannot be negative, we conclude that the height
of the ramp is 5 meters. Thus a = 5 m, b = 12 m, and c = 13 m.
Step 5: Check.
𝑐2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑏2 > Is the run 7 m longer than the rise?
(13) = (5) + (12)
2 2 2 5 + 7 = 12
169 = 25 + 144 12 = 12 YES
169 = 169 > Is the ramp 8 m longer than the rise?
5 + 8 = 13
13 =13 YES
Example 2: The length of the base of the triangular sheet of canvass above
the door of the tent is 1 meter more than its height. The area is
0.72 sq m. Find the height and length of the base of the triangle
Note that since 1.44 is negative, this is not a perfect square trinomial.
Let us use the Quadratic Formula.
V. Activities
Activity 1:
1. x (2x – 5) = 0 6. (3m + 4) (m – 5)
2. 2t (t – 8) = 0 7. k2 – 4k – 45 = 0
3. 6x (2x + 1) = 0 8. 2t2 – 7t – 49 = 0
4. (r + 2) (r + 13) = 0 9. 3w2 – 11w = 4
5. (h – 4) (h – 10) = 0 10. 4u2 + 4u = 15
Activity 2:
