OPENING VOLUNTARY Petite Prelude and Fughetta Eugene Butler

Scott Montgomery, organ

* CALL TO WORSHIP Dr. Steve Pulliam

Leader: Welcome, friends, to this holy day.
People: We come to offer thanks;
we come to sing and pray.
Leader: Welcome, friends, to this time set apart;
People: a time to remember our relationship with Jesus Christ,
a time to remember the holy promises of God.
Leader: Welcome, friends. God is here amongst us.
People: Let us worship God.

* OPENING HYMN 181 Ye Servants of God HANOVER

1. Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,
and publish abroad his wonderful name;
the name all-victorious of Jesus extol,
his kingdom is glorious and rules over all.
2. God ruleth on high, almighty to save,
and still he is nigh, his presence we have;
the great congregation his triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus, our King.
3. "Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!"
Let all cry aloud and honor the Son;
the praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.
4. Then let us adore and give him his right,
all glory and power, all wisdom and might;
all honor and blessing with angels above,
and thanks never ceasing and infinite love.

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
* GLORIA PATRI 70 MEINEKE
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

CALL TO PRAYER (based on Romans 5:8; Hebrews 4:16)

The proof of God’s amazing love is this:
While we were sinners, Christ died for us.
Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Trusting in God’s faithfulness and compassion,
let us go to God in prayer.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER
O God of shalom,
we have built up walls to protect ourselves from our enemies,
but those walls also shut us off from receiving your word and love.
Break down those walls.
Help us to see that the way to your heart
is through the reconciliation of our own hearts with our enemies.
Bless them and us,
that we may come to grow in love for each other and for you, through Jesus Christ.
Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

TIME
* CLOSING HYMN 540 I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord ST. THOMAS
1. I love thy kindom, Lord, the house of thine abode,
the church our blest Redeemer saved with his own precious blood.
2. I love thy church, O God! Her walls before thee stand
dear as the apple of thine eye, and graven on thy hand.
3. For her my tears shall fall, for her my prayers ascend,
to her my cares and toils be given, till toils and cares shall end.
4. Beyond my highest joy I prize her heavenly ways,
her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise.
5. Sure as thy truth shall last, to Zion shall be given
the brightest glories earth can yield, and brighter bliss of heaven.
