Calibration procedure PDVSA gasvalves and nozzle

Preparation

Verify correct connections of the lvdt’s and servo valve’s.

Verify correct excitation voltage for the lvdt (7 VAC(rms) 3000Hz)
When valves are in closed position, verify or adjust lvdt feedback voltage to 0.700 Vac
(rms).

Run auxiliary lube oil pump and auxiliary hydraulic pump.

Verify sufficient hydraulic oil pressure.
No emergency pushbuttons should be activated.
Give Master Reset.

Establish trip oil pressure by forcing L20HD.

Open appropriate toolbox file and force xx\l4_xtp to 0 (password for forcing is
thomassen1)
Force xx\l20hd1x to 1

You should have tripoil pressure now !

Calibrate speed ratio valve.
Force xx\L3ADJ4 to 1

Right click on regulator 4

Select calibration Mode on:

Press a few times “Min End Pos” and Max End Pos” to stroke the valve a few times
(verify correct operation in the automatically opened trend recorder file.)

When wires have been disconnected it is useful to verify correct connection of the servo
coils by connecting one coil and stroke the valve open and closed. Repeat this for the
other coils. For each Rack it should move the same way.

For the valves: Closed is 0% and Open = 100%.

For the Nozzle: Closed is -5% and Open is 15%
For the actual calibration

Press “Min End Pos”, when valve is completely closed Press “Fix1”, this records the 0
values.

Press “Max End Pos”, when valve is completely open press “Fix2”.

After this press Calibrate and then Save.

With save, the program is first downloading the hardware configuration to the panel and
then it is asking to save the m6b file. Do this.(password for level2 is R4resor2)
Optionally you can verify the correct operation of the valve in manual mode. Or
Automatic under position control and current control
Verify correct values. Specifically the lvdt voltages see below.(double click on regulator
4)

When finished, force xx\L3ADJ4 to 0 and then unforce . Do the other valves.

Regulator 2 is Control Valve (l3adj2)

Regulator 3 is Nozzle (l3adj3)
Regulator 4 is Speed ratio Valve(l3adj4)

Do the optional null current measurement, this is only necessary when a servo valve is
changed out.

When finished unforce the l4xtp and l20hd1x pins

When wires have been disconnected it is useful to verify correct connection of the servo
coils by connecting a coil at the time and stroke the valve open and closed, for each Rack
it should move the same way.

For the valves Closed is 0% and Open = 100%, for the Nozzle Closed is -5% and Open is
15%
Optional Null current measurement and correction.

You need to individually measure the current per coil. Connect only one coil and
measure the current going through it when valve is steered to for example 50% . Do this
for all coils.
For pdvsa unit 2 we found the following values:

0.83 mA for R
0.83 mA for S
0.83 mA for T

To calculate the value that needs to be put in the regulator RegNullBias do the following:
Add them together, divide by 3, multiply by 10 and divide by 3. Result here is 2.766%.
Put this value in the toolbox file
Download the hardware by right clicking on slot 5

Save the m6b file.

Typical values:

Speed ratio
0.83 mA
0.83 mA
0.83 mA
2.76 %

Control vlv
0.76 mA
0.76 mA
0.78 mA
2.5%

Nozzle
1.05 mA
1.04 mA
1.05 mA
-3.48%
