APPLICATIONS

The product can be applied by the exhaust process from acid, neutral or alkaline baths and in the
hydrogen peroxide bleach.
®
UVITEX EDB can be applied continuously by the pad-bake process and pad-steam systems
suitable for printing and bleaching.

Polyester and their blends

®
In the exhaust process, UVITEX EDB presents a slight absorbing power on polyester at the boil.
®
A suitable diffusion accelerant like UNIVADINE DFM promotes the bath exhaustion, particularly
the development of the FWA on the fiber at low temperature but does not impair the light fastness.
The highest white effects are obtained under HT conditions (110–130°C).

The ideal developing temperature in the pad-bake process is between 180 and 205°C at a fixation
®
time of about 30 s. With its very high fastness to dry heat, UVITEX EDB can be applied at high
temperatures without impairing the whiteness, provided the base white is sufficiently stable to heat
and residual lubricants or finishing agents do not cause yellowing.

Dissolving/diluting
The product must be carefully stirred before removal from the container and it is advisable to dilute
it before use with about 10 times its weight of cold soft water or preferably warm soft water at
40–50°C. To preserve its stability, the dispersion must not be boiled up.
Stock solutions can be prepared, but must be stirred before use.

Stock solutions should be kept away from the light; also substrates treated with the whitening agent
as long as it is not fixed.

For specific end-use (e.g. net curtains), padding can be carried out in presence of suitable soft handle, anti-static
and non-slip finishing agents.
A correct pre-washing process ensures minimal base white yellowing during baking.

Temperature/time 20–60 min at 115–105°C
For blends of polyester with regenerated cellulose, the amounts of bleaching chemicals as well as the
application temperature have to be reduced. Additionally, the affinity of the cellulose FWA can be increased
by an electrolyte addition (1–3 g/l sodium sulfate).
The required amounts of whitening agents depend on the blend ratio.
In the case of yarn package and beam whitening, CLARITE® WIN should not be used and replaced by
CLARITE® ONE (1–1.5 g/l).
