I. Objective: Top prepare Glycerin Suppositories.

II. Materials:

IV. Compounding Procedures:

1. Clean and lubricate molder with mineral oil, freeze.


2. Heat glycerine directly until it reaches 120 °C. (Maintain temperature).
3. Dissolve monohydrated sodium carbonate in water.
4. Add sodium carbonate solution to glycerine.
5. Add stearic acid in portions and stir lightly till translucent. Continue heating
until all carbonate evolve. Remove scum with tissue paper.
6. Pour immediately to chilled suppository molder.
7. Place the molder in an ice bath or freezer.
8. When solidified, remove from molder and wrap with aluminium foil.
9. Place in an appropriate container.
10. Label the container properly.

GLYCERIN SUPPOSITORIES

Synonym/s: Glycerol suppositories

Latin Name/s: Glycerinum suppositorum

Use of the Preparation:


Glycerin suppositories are rectal laxatives for relieving mild to moderate constipation.

Formula for 15ml:

Glycerin 24.4 mL Colorless or pale-yellow


liquid; odorless and Used as a solvent
syrupy; sweet and warm and emollient
taste. Miscible with water
and alcohol.

Monohydrated 0.54 g White, almost white, or


sodium carbonate colorless inorganic salt,
produced as crystalline
powder or granules. It is Ph buffer
hygroscopic and
odorless with an alkaline
taste.

Stearic acid 2.48 g White or colorless, wax-


like solid with a mild
odor. Floats on water. Thickening
Purified water 1.67 mL Odorless, tasteless, Solvent
transparent liquid.

Description of Finished Product:


Glycerin suppositories are elongated, smooth and have a uniform texture and
appearance.

Recommended Storage:
Stored at temperature below 35ᶱF. It also stored at controlled room temperature 20-25ᶱC,
or in a refrigerator.

WHITE OINTMENT

I. Objective: To prepare White Ointment

II. Materials:
White wax Beaker
White Petrolatum Collapsible Tube
Evaporating Dish
Mettler Balance
Stirring Rod
Water Bath
Wax paper

III. Formula:
White wax …………………………………………………..50 g
White petroleum……………………………….................. 950 g

IV. Compounding Procedures:

1. Weigh all the ingredients accurately.


2. Melt the white wax in a suitable dish on a water bath.
3. Add white petrolatum, warm until liquefied.
4. Then continue heating, and stir the mixture until it begins to congeal.
5. Transfer the mixture to an ointment jar while hot.
6. Cover with glassine paper. Label properly.

WHITE OINTMENT

Synonym/s: Simple Ointment; Ointment USP XI.

Latin Name/s: Unguentum Album

Use of the Preparation:


This medication is used as a moisturizer to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin
and minor skin irritations.

Formula for 15ml:

Description of Finished Product:


Semisolid dosage forms. Oily or greasy consistency and can appear “stiff” as they are
applied to the skin.

Recommended Storage:
Ointment should be stored in tightly closed and completely filled containers to prevent the
loss of volatile constituents. It should be protected from high temperature or direct
sunlight.
