Assignment #1: 1- Minute Paper

 Identify eras in the Philippine historical development of public health and ways that
community health affects literature, arts, current events and everyone’s daily life.

Since back then, community health nursing plays a crucial role in providing health
services, preventive care, intervention and giving proper health education to a
communities, as well as seeks to address the needs of specific groups of people within
cities, towns or rural areas who may be predisposed to chronic health conditions or
communicable diseases but lack insurance or other resources to seek healthcare.

During the pre-Spanish era, there was no records and documentation of community
health nursing was made. Not until the start of Spanish regime, when the context of
nursing has manifested through simple nutrition, wound care, and taking care of an ill
member of the family. Because of the certain practices when taking care of a sick
individuals, it involves the different interventions from the Babaylan or albularyo making
way to the construction of different hospital such as; Hospital Real de Manila who was
founded by Gov. Francisco de Sande and San Lazaro Hospital that was founded by Bro.
Juan Clemente, for the purpose of taking care the Spanish king’s soldiers and Spanish
civilians, as well as the start of public health services through a dispensary in Intramuros
that lead to the start of water sanitation and introduction of small pox vaccine, creating a
position of district, provincial and national health officers. The women have assumed the
role of nurses to assist the wounded soldiers started during the American regime that was
led by Josephine Bracken who installed a field hospital in an estate house in Tejeros, this
era also lead to the different construction of more hospitals in the Philippines as well as
the creation of the board of health for physicians. In the Japanese Regime, Public Health
Nursing services were interrupted because of the outbreak of WW II, public health nurses
in Manila were assigned to devastated areas to attend to the sick and the wounded. During
this present time or the Era of the Republic of the Philippines, Physicians and nurses
undergoing pre-service and in-service training in public health/public health nursing as
well as nursing students on affiliation were assigned to the training center. Republic Act
1082 (Rural Health Unit Act) was passed, implemented in July of the same year and
provided for the employment of health personnel, including nurses, who would man the
RHU’s and help raise the health conditions of the rural population
n. And lastly, the development of the Rationalization Plan to streamline the bureaucracy
further was started and is in the last stages of finalization.

In literature, community health nursing plays a vital role in expanding the core of public
health nursing, with the use of different past researches and journals, it can help and
benefit the guide user to relevant materials that helps them to have more knowledge and
ideas in providing holistic care to the patients. Aside from this, it can be a source of studies
to improve more the quality of care that is rendered to a community.

In arts, community health nursing refers to the care and compassion that you provide
to your patients. The usage of arts have a lot of positive effect not just in the physical
health of the patient but as well as it also has an positive effect on mental and social
health of our patients helping them to recover much faster.

In our current events, community health nursing has a significant role in providing a
holistic care to the community considering our condition right now, most of the hospital
are turn into a covid-19 facility and some of it are already full and cannot admit any
patients anymore, so there are people who seek medical help to the local health centers,
community health nurses are also tasked to have a plan in helping the spread of health
teachings about the different safety measures and precautions to the spread of the
COVID19 virus.

In our everyday daily life, community health nursing not just provides a holistic care to
each member of the community, but it also gives essential support that makes a huge
difference in saving of countless lives in the community.
