1) In the light of Gardner’s theory, why does Gardner claim we have been unfair to many of our

students in the past as far as teaching strategies are concerned?

Gardner said teaching has been unfair to many of our students in the past because it only focuses on
linguistic way of teaching. How about students who excel in kinesthetic, mathematical, visual spatial
and musical? Every child is special on their own way. We are born w/ different intelligence and skills.

Teaching in the same way is unfair in such a way that students couldn’t learn based on their
capabilities and skills on other areas. In order to be fair, teaching and testing needs to provide
learning for all students in alignment with their particular intelligence. We should throw away the
idea that intelligence is one sort of general ability. One is not important with the other, but some
may help people succeed at different things.

Being fair in teaching doesn’t always mean you should teach your students the same way, but rather
how to use and offer different learning strategies and materials to deal with your lesson concepts
that may capture their interest even reluctant learners and be able to us his / her intelligence
productively. That is the true beauty of teaching.
