DEMI ELOISE OROC COLLEGE TZU CHI SCHOLAR

Year 2020 is an unexpected year for all. People had great plans and goals for this year but it all came to
halt. This pandemic has brought misery, suffering and grief into people’s lives and despite that, Tzu Chi is
still not stopping in helping other people. The volunteers and the organization itself has selfless hearts
which leads them to put others first rather than their own. As what I’ve seen in the video this
organization that I am truly grateful to be part of are giving great and responsive efforts in assisting the
masses. Giving out PPE’s, Sacks of rice, financial and emotional support and others. This pandemic may
have worsened the lives of many but it has strengthened the hearts and bonds of the majority.

During this Covid lockdown, I was and still staying at home majority of the time. I feel fortunate that my
family has enough means to survive and is living close in the area with different commodities needed for
basic living. The experience is truly new I had to change my routines and tinkered with my habits. It
made me realize how important a home is. I am thankful that I have a roof over my head, food to eat,
healthy family members and the opportunity to go to school, still… thanks to Tzu Chi. This period gave
me a challenge to discipline and improve myself where I had to choose between productivity and
laziness. Thankfully, I had the list of quotes Tzu Chi gave me to remind me each day to strive in
becoming better and at the same time be kind to others.
