Nepal to observe the year 2020 as Visit Nepal Year

The government of Nepal has decided to observe the year 2020 as Visit Nepal Year, to try to
attract as many as 2 million foreign tourists to the country, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

The main aim of this national campaign is to bring over more than two million visitors by the
end of the year 2020 and sustain the flow of tourist in Nepal, said Shanti Gurung, Minister,
Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).

Nepal offers a wide variety of activities for tourists. These includes mountaineering, white water
sports, spiritual retreats, wild life safaris, and other adventure activities like trekking and hiking,
cannoning, rock climbing, honey hunting, mountain biking, etc.

The government has introduced a new plan to make sure that all public transportation vehicles
and highways are clean during the Visit Nepal Year 2020.As per the plan, the government issued
a circular to all hotels and motels operating along major highways of the country to place
containers to dispose of the garbage generated by the passengers, said Sunny Gurung, Chief
Executive Officer at Nepal Tourism Board.
Likewise, the local governments have been told to make sure that the arrival and departure points
of the vehicles also have tools and places to dispose of the waste.
The Nepal Tourism Board has requested all the citizens to come together to make VNY 2020 a
success. Citizens can contribute by keeping the surrounding clean and by welcoming and
assisting tourist in need, an official said.
