Teaching Philosophy

I believe, first and foremost, that every student deserves and needs a welcoming classroom
environment where they feel safe and respected; regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, or
sexual orientation. It is my goal to create an open minded and respectful atmosphere within
each class that I may encounter.

Celebrating differences, especially in a melting pot such as Canada, is vital in developing and
nurturing young global citizens. I hope to achieve an accepting classroom setting that
recognizes each religion, ethnicity, and historical background as of equal importance.

I believe it is my job as a teacher to guide students to further develop their identities and to
pursue their passion. I hope to incorporate a multifaceted approach to assessment that will
allow for individual students to show their understanding in a way that is most representative of
them as an individual.

Caring for my students is one of my top goals. I want my students to know that I genuinely want
the best for them, both in their education and life outside of the realm of school. I hope to create
lasting relationships with not only my students, but with their parents or guardians as well.

I believe that collaboration amongst colleagues and classmates is an essential skill to develop.
Allowing myself to learn from what others know is one of my strengths as a teacher. I hope to
pass on my love of collaboration to my students through open group discussions and
assessment efforts.

The ability to make mistakes and to learn from them is crucial to showcase in a classroom
setting. I truly believe that students nowadays are being raised towards perfectionism and I
hope to combat this by showing that mistakes are key in the learning process.

Finally, I believe being professional, punctual, knowledgeable and adaptable are key to a
successful outcome as a teacher. I strive to be a lifelong learner who is flexible in my approach
to instruction and is willing to learn from my “failures”.
