Journalists: “Which improvements have we got with the space

explorations?”
Scientists:

 (Kel) First things first… space exploration provides us knowledge

about the universe, for example we can locate potential dangers
ahead of time, also we can understand how our planet operates due
to this process of exploration. I mean…We have been able to study
ozone depletion concerns, global warming worries, and weather
patterns thanks to space exploration. This information allows us to
evaluate our current living conditions and make changes that can
keep our planet healthier for generations to come. More
importantly, study aeronautics allows us to find new mineral
deposit and fuel sources on other planets, asteroids that benefit us
here at home.

Journalists: “Is that important to explore other planets and etc…

instead of finding cures to incurable diseases?
Scientists (Inês): That’s a very interesting question, finding cures to
problematic diseases is crucial and that work will never be put aside,
so.... what we are saying is at the same time that we are investing our
time and money on the space exploration, we are finding new cures
and treatments every day, for instance scientist are not resting until
they find the vaccine for covid. Space exploration and finding new
cures and treatments are at the same level of importance.
Journalists: “Why are we wasting so much money trying to discover
other planets, when ours isn’t even totally explored?”
Scientists:

 (Granja)In this moment the main goal is to explore more and more
the space. When you say that our planet isn´t even totally explored
are you talking about the ocean right??.... (esperamos pela resposta)
The biggest reason for not exploring the ocean so much is the
technological limitation and besides that, explore the ocean is very
expensive and difficult.

 (Tiago) Right now we can say that is easier exploring the space than
the ocean. We have an idea how is the bottom of the ocean thanks
to the satellites. But I have another idea…. Imagine that an asteroid
is coming in direction of Earth, this situation is possible and can
happen every moment. We need a plan B! Studying the ocean is
important but studying the space is in first place of the science
community.
